Chapter 136: Chapter 135 Collaborators

Chapter 136 -135 Collaborators

“Right, how did you pick him out from a crowd?” Chaoyang asked curiously, “Is that also an Angel’s power?”

“What? No… It’s just Ailuodi’s ability,” she replied with a shrug, speaking lightly, “I lived in the slums for a while and dealt with them quite a bit, so naturally, I gained some experience. On the train, everyone was looking at this boy involuntarily, which indicates he’s the kind who often takes charge and is trustworthy. Plus, his life force is very strong; a sickly person wouldn’t be accepted by a group that practices survival of the fittest.”

The time she spent living in the slums must have left a profound impression on her.

More crucially, she went there voluntarily.

“Well… but given his memory-erasing ability, he probably wouldn’t stay with slaves for long,” Chaoyang scratched his head, “I really can’t see what use that ability would have—if he were a vicious criminal, it could be quite useful for evading capture, but he doesn’t seem like that sort of person.”

Even though Leisk had met the players by chance, he still warned them that their enemies had peculiar weapons, and even chose to go through the entire train robbery with them.

Then, in the blink of an eye, everyone had completely forgotten his existence.

“I’m wondering… if that sudden fog the other day had anything to do with him,” Ailuodi mused.

“Do you mean to say that he might be a member of the Hidden Mist Sect?” Chaoyang felt that this was also a possible direction to consider.

“Mmm, I’ve been at Magnificent Castle for a while now, have you not noticed many rumors that sound mysterious actually have historical evidence backing them? Especially the Panlogical Machine you showed me last time, it’s like the prototype of a biological network structure,” the Angel reflected profoundly, “Since then, I have no doubt about the existence of things beyond the ordinary in this world.”

“But the Hidden Mist Sect is a cult of the Evil God… What would be the point of them doing that?”

“What do you think about Paradise in the company’s propaganda? They’ve not missed out on killing and looting,” Ailuodi said sarcastically, “It’s just that they don’t know where you are hiding, so they can’t use Paradise as a target. Don’t forget, all the newspapers and books you see in this world are printed by them.”

Whenever it came to the company, the Angel obviously became more irritable.

“Fine, since he doesn’t wish to interact with us more, he must have his reasons,” Chaoyang decided to turn this into recorded intelligence, to prevent the players from being harmed by the Hidden Mist Sect in the future, “As long as those cultists don’t bother us, we’ll be fine.”

In the afternoon, a visitor of special status came to Yeni Temple.

Upon hearing this news, Jenny immediately found Chaoyang, “Divine Envoy sir, the Commander of the city guard is now in the main hall of the temple, she says she wants to see you!”

When Shandela walked into the main hall, her first impression was how much cleaner the environment had become.

She had last visited a year ago.

Back then, Yeni gave her a very bad feeling, with the nuns bustling about, their faces bearing a coldness that kept strangers at a distance. The hall and corridors were filled with sickbeds and patients lying on the ground coughing; every corner was caked in black mud and filth, making her impression of the place congruent with the rumors: being sent here meant you were a castaway, and recovery was left to fate. Residents with even a small amount of savings would never hand over a sick family member to the black-clothed nuns.

But now, the main hall of Yeni Temple was bright and clean, the stone floor had been scrubbed so many times that it even reflected people’s silhouettes. No more sickbeds could be seen in the corridors, and the occasionally spotted patients were usually accompanied by a nun.

What refreshed Shandela was seeing the transformation of the nuns’ robes from black to white, with a noticeable improvement in material and quality, which matched the tidy surroundings perfectly.

Additionally, the nuns now greeted people with smiles, completely devoid of their previous indifference.

“It seems that the noble gossip is indeed true,” Woody whispered. “Yeni Temple has a new investor.”

Shandela remained noncommittal. In her eyes, the temple had never lacked investors, such as the pillar companies. Money had labels; the amount was one thing, but tangible changes to the temple itself were quite another.

What intrigued her was the person behind the Paradise Foundation.

Clearly, it was this individual’s involvement that had sparked such significant transformation in Yeni Temple.

Then there was Gate of Destiny Pharmaceutical Company, a business with no reputation to speak of on the Old Continent, yet, they had quietly overcome the challenge of the Scarlet Curse, a feat nothing short of miraculous!

A common merchant would not easily enter her field of vision.

Her willingness to personally visit the temple was also a show of respect towards the other party.

Before long, a nun guided her into a small reception room.

Shandela had just seated herself when a well-mannered man entered through the door—tall, at least 1.95 meters, wearing a hand-tailored dark blue suit, his boots shining brightly. He appeared surprisingly young, just over thirty, which was quite an accomplishment for someone leading a company.

“Good day… Commander, my name is Chaoyang, the New Continent manager for the Paradise Foundation and the founder of Gate of Destiny Pharmaceutical Company,” Chaoyang introduced himself generously, changing only ‘chao’ to ‘zhao’ in his name.

But this apparent openness was merely superficial; he was, in fact, observing Shandela’s every move with extreme caution, ready to counteract at the slightest sign of odd behavior from her.

Ailuodi had already summoned the Sword of Gale behind the wall.

The absence of the masquerade man she had seen outside the Cloud Pavilion Hotel last time was critical; otherwise, he would have had Jenny refuse the meeting outright, rather than risk an encounter. 𝓃𝓸𝓋𝓅𝓊𝒷.𝓬𝓸𝓂

However, Shandela did not associate this man with the “Masked Man” of Wangshui Manor at all, “Pleased to meet you, I am Shandela, the Defense Officer of Magnificent Castle appointed by the Lord. This is my Deputy Officer, Woody.”

Their hands clasped together.

“May I ask what brings the Commander to us today?” Chaoyang asked proactively after taking a seat.

“I’ll get straight to the point. I’m here on behalf of the City Guard, with the aim to acquire the antibiotic that is claimed to cure the Scarlet Curse,” Shandela stated plainly, “A week ago, I sent several soldiers with scarlet symptoms to the temple for treatment, and now they have all fully recovered, which proves that Gate of Destiny’s advertising was no lie.”

“That is of course, medical treatment is a matter of life for patients, and we would never exaggerate in such matters,” Chaoyang smiled, “Unfortunately, Gate of Destiny was only recently established, and I have heard that many professionals still have their doubts about the antibiotics.”

In fact, Jenny had not discussed these issues with him.

The temple was a relatively enclosed environment. The nuns mostly cared only about their designated duties. Recently, with an abundance of new material to learn, like injection techniques, sterilization procedures, and basic surgical knowledge, they had become even busier and had no time to concern themselves with outside rumors and gossip.

He had read about it in the newspapers.

Especially the Daily Post of Magnificent Castle, which had the largest circulation; almost every day, there were doctors accusing Gate of Destiny of unprofessionalism and the poor medical environment at Yeni Temple.

In the few days since he had left the area, the adverse reports in the newspapers had grown from small articles to full-page exposés. Chaoyang was not about to believe there was no unified puppet master orchestrating all this from behind the scenes.
