“You—” Zhang Zhiyuan wanted to stop it, but it was too late.
“I thought you’d be used to it by now.” Anthony sheathed his dagger and dropped the body at his feet, “What, did you actually want to spare his life?”
“Maybe his crimes didn’t warrant death.”
“Oh come on, here we are the rule, and look—” Anthony gestured with his mouth toward the carriage exit and they saw among the fleeing slaves, there were a few small, young figures, who judging from their appearances, were skinny children no older than twelve, “I’ve done plenty of illegal stuff, but I draw the line at harming kids!”
Zhang Zhiyuan didn’t continue the conversation, he took a deep breath and moved toward the next carriage.
In the following two carriages, they encountered only slaves, and they methodically unlocked each iron cell door. Surprisingly, the boy who was first rescued didn’t flee with the other slaves but followed behind, helping to evacuate the other prisoners.
It wasn’t until the seventh carriage that the five of them finally met some resistance.
