Chapter 82: Chapter 81 The Sound of Disappearance

Chapter 82 -81 The Sound of Disappearance

Was everything just now an illusion?

No… he noticed the clock on the wall pointed to 7 o’clock, a full four hours later than when he had entered the house!

Zhang Zhiyuan leaped up from the lounge chair, opened the door, and saw the corridor outside had become brightly lit!

It was the light of the rising sun.

Walking to the window, he saw the guards had already opened the retractable gate, preparing for a new day’s duty. The road outside was bustling with traffic, and hurried office workers were quickly walking on the pavement, many holding steaming breakfasts in their hands.

But in his memory, the conversation with Paradise lasted at most only thirty minutes, and even after waking up, he remembered the contents of the conversation clearly.

With confusion and puzzlement, Zhang Zhiyuan returned to the hidden room and saw his fallen phone on the floor.

Probably the moment he was summoned into Paradise, he had lost control of his body, slumping down and causing his phone to also uncontrollably fall to the ground.

He picked up his phone tenderly and discovered an unread text message on the screen.

Clicking on it, to his surprise, it was from Kwong Sai Express.

But scrolling down, Zhang Zhiyuan froze on the spot.

Because on the details page, the sender’s name was “Paradise”.

Britannia Island, City L.

Wayne Janet leaned back against the stone wall, listening quietly to the seagulls crying outside the high window.

This was a seaside prison, probably renovated inside, with various modern surveillance devices and gleaming automated iron gates that clashed with its overall stone-built ambience.

This was also characteristic of Britannia, which is to say that everything is refurbished, whether it’s factories, streets, houses, or prisons. On the bright side, it means they have had these things for a long time; on the downside, refurbishments are never as good as new constructions.

Because of its seaside location, this cell always seemed damp, and at night even dew would form on the bars. After only two days, Janet had already grown tired of such conditions, eager for the next moment to leave this place and return to the soft Simmons black bed in the hotel.

And he knew he would definitely leave.

Because Tyler was not an ordinary man.

On the surface, Tyler was extremely wealthy, but in reality, his abilities were more startling than his fortune, and Wayne Janet’s success in expanding his business to Britannia was inseparable from his relationship with Tyler. It was also because of this connection that he knew Tyler would surely take action.

Just then, a sudden thud came from overhead, and the entire cell darkened.

“Damn it, another power outage!”

“Hey, can you do something about it? It’s so hot without the fan I’m gonna die!”

Outbursts from other prisoners immediately filled the air outside.

But soon, the prison guards responded to this provocation with their batons.

Wayne Janet couldn’t care less about such “daily interactions.” In his view, this rabble didn’t even deserve to be in the same prison as him. Yelling, other than venting emotions, was useless; he remained silent most of the time because a rage was brewing within him, and once he regained his freedom, he would make sure those two bastards regretted ever coming into this world.

Suddenly, two guards stopped at his cell door, one of them holding a document, “Wayne James, United States citizen, here for temporary detention, right?”

“That’s me.”

“Come over and put on the handcuffs, someone wants to see you.”

“Who?” He walked to the door of the cell and put his hands through the iron bars.

“You’ll know when you see them,” the other party replied curtly. After making sure the handcuffs were secured, he used a manual knob to open the iron cell door.

Janet followed the two men out of the prison area. Another officer took over the escort duty, accompanied by a middle-aged man dressed in a suit. The latter stepped forward to shake hands, “Good day, sir. I am Cui Wei, the lawyer appointed by Flynn. Before you meet Flynn, I need to understand a few issues.”

Flynn? A sigh of relief flooded Janet’s mind. Tyler occasionally used other names, and Flynn was one of them. However, four days had passed since the attack and his detention, and he had thought the other party would have reacted sooner. After all, he was supposed to meet Tyler that night, and Tyler should have known something had happened to him on the night he did not show up.

“Why did it take so long?” he asked discontentedly.

“Because arresting you were not City L police, Mr. Flynn needed time to resolve this,” the lawyer explained.

“Not City L police?” Janet raised his eyebrows in surprise, “Then who could it be?”

“I cannot disclose that, sir,” said Cui Wei as he adjusted his glasses. “The main question is, how were you captured?”

Meanwhile, the accompanying officer had consciously stepped several meters away, turning his back on them and no longer overseeing his actions.

Tyler’s capabilities were really extraordinary, Janet noted to himself.

“I was ambushed by two kids, God knows how they managed to sneak into the hotel catering cart! This isn’t over; once I get my hands on them, they’ll know that dying is a luxury!”

“What kind of kids?”

“A boy and a girl, what else can I say?” As he brought up the matter, he could hardly contain his anger. The fact that he had been taken down by a teenage girl was humiliating enough to feel like a provocation just by being mentioned, “Once I get the surveillance footage, I will recognize them.”

“Then do you know what this is all about?” The lawyer took out a photo and held it up to him, “Oh… pardon me, it’s a bit dark due to the power cut. Please give me a moment.” He then casually turned on a penlight, casting light for Janet to see.

The photo showed the lavish suite he had been staying in. Oddly enough, the wall looked as if it had been torn apart, split down the middle, with the floor a complete mess.

“Uh… they brought a bomb? I don’t know. In fact, I woke up in a basement room.”

“Alright,” Cui Wei put away the photo but did not turn off the flashlight. “The people who apprehended you, did they talk to you? This is very important, so please answer truthfully.”

“No, they just beat me up.”

“They didn’t inquire about anything to do with the Paradise game?”

Janet’s heart skipped a beat, not expecting this man to also know about the Paradise game, “I already told you, they just beat me up, no food, and no conversation! How does this relate to my meeting with Tyler?”

“Hmm, Mr. Flynn does not want the news about Paradise to spread, especially not to the ears of the Americans,” said Cui Wei, taking two steps back.

“You…” Janet looked at him hesitantly and then realized what was happening, “Wait—”

The officer behind had already raised his gun and pulled the trigger aiming at him.

A whistling sound was heard, and Wayne Janet’s head jerked violently as if struck by a sledgehammer. His body then slumped forward, limbs twitching uncontrollably, unable to make any more sounds.

The flashlight kept pointing at him in the dim corridor, resembling a spotlight illuminating a target.

Cui Wei knelt down, checked Janet’s neck for a pulse, and after confirming the absence of life, he nodded to the shooter and they both walked towards the door.

When they opened the door to the corridor, the two prison guards responsible for the escort promptly stood at attention and saluted.

“You did well,” Cui Wei saluted in return, “You have made the appropriate contribution to national security. Britannia will surely remember what happened today.”
