Chapter 98: Chapter 97: Harvest
Chapter 98 -97: Harvest
…
In the morning, Chaoyang climbed out of bed and yawned deeply.
The temple was secluded, but the living environment left much to be desired. Each additional day spent on the wooden bed was a test for his back.
When he pushed open the door, planning to wash up downstairs, he was surprised to see Jenny and Judy already waiting at the stair entrance, as if they had been expecting him to emerge.
“What’s wrong with you two? There wasn’t a problem with the injection, was there?”
Upon seeing Chaoyang, Jenny’s weary expression suddenly brightened, “You’re finally awake, the sisters have all been waiting for you!”
“Waiting for me?”
“Don’t ask now, just go to the hall and see for yourself!” Judy was a bit bolder, she went around to Chaoyang’s back and pushed him toward the stairs.
Arriving at the temple hall, the crowd of onlookers seemed even larger than last night, not just the nuns, but also the construction workers who were curious enough to gather around.
Under Jenny’s guidance, Chaoyang made his way through the crowd, all the way to the sickbed.
“Look!” she said excitedly, “In just one night, twelve patients have almost all shown improvement!”
Chaoyang noticed that most of the patients had already removed their eye patches, and their restraints had been untied. Although they were still lying in their beds, their demeanors had changed drastically from the day before, no longer filled with the fear of imminent death but rather a sense of relief and anticipation for tomorrow. Looking at their wounds, the ones with mild infections had almost no redness left, and for the first time, there was no oozing beneath the stitches. The ones with severe conditions had also greatly improved, not only was the redness receding, but their fevers were under control, at least it was clear that death was moving away from them.
Chaoyang wasn’t surprised by this, for it was the result of the first-time use of antibiotics.
In an era where there was no widespread drug resistance, this was truly a great killer of bacteria.
Along with advanced and mature production methods, the purity of the penicillin powder they produced was quite high, success was an inevitable outcome.
However, he knew that Jenny and the nuns were unaware of all this.
For them, last night must have been an unforgettable day.
“Thank you… thank you…” A patient with a mild condition seemed to want to rise and thank Jenny but was pushed back down to the bed by her.
“It’s not us you should be thanking, it’s Mr. Chaoyang—-no,” Jenny suddenly paused, then corrected herself, “it’s the Divine Envoy!”
Chaoyang was slightly taken aback.
Why had he suddenly become a Divine Envoy?
Seeing Judy nodding repeatedly at the side, he suddenly realized why so many people were willing to sincerely sign their names on the contract.
“Thank you for saving my life! Divine Envoy, thank you!” the patient kept expressing his gratitude.
It appeared that the man had not yet realized what the term Divine Envoy entailed.
But the nuns and construction workers in the audience were different.
The former had at least heard it mentioned by Judy, while the latter were completely shocked by the news, murmuring to each other in hushed voices.
“Has the Magnificent Castle actually welcomed a Divine Envoy?”
“I wonder if it’s from the Mechanical Sect or the Church of Abundance?”
“Those two Sects are unlikely, it must be followers of some lesser-known divinities…”
“But even so, that’s a Divine Envoy! A being you can directly wish to!”
Listening to this, Chaoyang couldn’t help feeling a headache coming on. His role as a Divine Envoy was mainly for convening Dane and Judy; he had no intent of becoming well known to the world. More importantly, he had always presented himself as a “detective”—being too conspicuous was not a good thing.
However, he also knew that Jenny did this to repay his kindness—no church wouldn’t want its congregation to grow, and spreading faith to others was in the best interest of a Divine Envoy.
“Let those who are not involved leave; I have something I want to discuss with you all.”
At this point, it was not good for Chaoyang to correct Jenny’s statement, so he tacitly accepted it.
Jenny nodded, immediately took action as if his words were commands.
Before long, outsiders who were watching were asked to leave the venue, leaving only the nuns inside the great hall.
Chaoyang extended his hand and shook out a contract, “While everyone is here, I’d like to announce another piece of news, which is the cooperation agreement between the Gate of Destiny and the Temple. Before the antibiotics arrive, you should have already tried other consumable samples… How do you all find them?”
These consumables mainly included bandages, sutures, and alcohol… basically things that you could buy with money.
“Much better than what Lesun Company provides!”
“There were even cockroaches in the bandages they delivered!”
“Some of the sutures even smelled bad!”
The nuns immediately burst into an uproar of denunciation.
In reality, based on the price of the goods, the quality of medical supplies provided by Lesun should not be as poor as this, which clearly indicated the presence of embezzlement and substandard substitution. The goods ordered from Gate of Destiny were personally negotiated by Anthony and the others; the material quality was above average, and compared to what the Temple had been using, it was an immense difference. Therefore, the trial over the past few days had further sparked the nuns’ resentment and dissatisfaction toward the sponsoring company.
“After transitioning to formal production, the Gate of Destiny will continuously provide high-quality products to the Temple and will also waive all costs for poor patients—yes, you heard me right, the majority of patients currently treated by the Temple will be able to get free medication from this program! In other words, these costs will be covered by the Gate of Destiny!” Chaoyang said with emphasis, “Not only that, but the medical company will also issue bonuses and subsidies to all of you because by using our company’s medical supplies, you have in effect provided promotional services for the products and hence deserve a reward!”
“We… we get money too?”
The nuns voiced in disbelief.
“Of course, and the amount of the reward will rise with the company’s sales! I have made a preliminary estimate, and even if we go by the lowest standard, each of you could earn an extra fifty to a hundred Serir every year!”
This was already the average income at Magnificent Castle—most residents worked hard all year to save up this much money.
Upon these words, the entire great hall erupted in excitement!
“So… what is the opinion of Yeni Temple?”
“Do you really need to ask us?” The old nun said with a smile, squinting her eyes, “Just look at everyone’s reaction, and you’ll know.”
“But the contract still has to be signed,” another manager said contentedly, “I suggest adding another name to it, and that would be Miss Jenny. Without her efforts, we wouldn’t have awaited your help.”
It was only after the collaboration contract was formally signed between both parties did Chaoyang take out the contract bearing a hundred people’s marks, saying to Jenny, “With this, our contract has been fulfilled.”
“Yes,” Jenny took the contract, “We will never forget everything you have done for the Temple.”
Then she solemnly pressed her handprint on it.
At that moment, a beam of white light surged from the top of her head, flowing into Chaoyang. The quantity was not high, but it contained a gentle warmth.
However, the contract did not disappear immediately; it remained in Jenny’s hand.
She then passed it to the next nun.
“We are forever grateful to you.” Another white light rose, converging towards him.
“Thank you for your help!”
“Praise be to the Paradise Master!”
“Lead us into the dominion of Paradise!”
“May its radiance forever shine upon the Temple!”
As the contract passed continuously through the hands of the nuns, one beam of white light after another rose, converged, and disappeared, clearly distinguishable even in the morning light. Chaoyang was surrounded by this warm feeling, as if soaking in comfortable water. Moreover, he noticed that even after the contract was fulfilled, the nuns did not break their connection with him; thin lines appeared above their heads, just like the ones above Judy, and these lines were tightly connected to him.
When there were as many as a hundred white threads, Chaoyang suddenly felt a powerful force bursting forth from within him, and before he could react, it had already spread out in an instant!
What was this?
He was slightly taken aback, only to see in Lingxi’s vision that around him, within a hundred-meter radius, there appeared a transparent circle. Everything outside the circle remained the same, while the inside of the circle turned into mere outlines, empty inside.
