The forces of all sides surged into action, and none were truly prepared for the impending war. Yet the situation gave them no time to breathe—they had to convene immediately to discuss countermeasures.
Thus, a rushed Five Kage Summit was held, and Zixu was naturally called to attend. The agenda this time was straightforward: all nations must unite to face Uchiha Madara.
Zixu brought Sara along, believing Roran to be a force worth rallying—even if he still harbored doubts about whether the masked man truly was Uchiha Madara.
"Why isn't Mei Terumi here?" Zixu asked knowingly near the end of the discussion, eyeing Mangetsu Hōzuki, who had come in her place.
"Lord Mizukage was tricked by Orochimaru, so everyone better stay alert," Mangetsu bared his teeth, issuing a clear warning.
"You don't need to tell me twice." The Raikage slammed his palm on the table. He had long been itching to retaliate against those bastards. They had been conducting small-scale raids all along, and the most nerve-wracking one was when they captured Killer Bee's tentacle clone—a crucial last-resort technique for Bee.
"If it really is Uchiha Madara, this battle will be extremely dangerous..." Ōnoki frowned. He recalled the helplessness he once felt when he encountered Madara in his youth. Shaking his head to dispel the memory, he looked over to Jiraiya.
"Konoha just took a major hit. Sunagakure's also in a transitional period. This isn't going to be easy."
"Cut the whining. Just unite and be done with it. There's no room for pettiness now." Zixu stood up. "I'm out of here. Talk all you want, but once those White Zetsu shadows appear, it's already the beginning of war."
He left with Sara in tow. War had already crept upon them in silence. Rather than waste time talking, forming a joint force was the best course.
"How's the puppet doing?" Zixu asked, turning his head.
Sara was momentarily stunned before replying, "Sasori's chakra reserves aren't high, but its recovery speed is impressive. It can barely sustain the puppet's activity."
"I see... Looks like we'll need to catch more," Zixu muttered. He had assumed sasori were enough to feed the puppet's energy needs, but clearly, they weren't. Not too surprising—after all, the puppet's core once housed the Dragon Vein of Roran, which had virtually infinite chakra.
He was about to say more when a message from Hyuga Chinano and the others interrupted.
"A large number of White Zetsu have appeared around Sky City? Alongside numerous corpses—likely from Impure World Reincarnation—and strange-looking enemies?" Zixu clicked his tongue. The war had begun just days after Sky City landed. These enemies clearly came prepared.
"We've gotta get back—fast. Sara, prep the puppets! War's broken out, and they're aiming for a blitzkrieg. They won't let us breathe."
After dropping Sara back in Rora , Zixu bolted full speed toward Sky City. But an unexpected ambush stopped him in his tracks.
The desert around him teemed with black-and-white figures that had seemingly appeared from nowhere. They must have blended into space, only surfacing as he approached.
The sand sank. Brown coffins rose up like bamboo shoots after a spring rain. Familiar figures emerged, surrounding Zixu tightly.
"Thousands of White Zetsu, dozens of Impure World Reincarnated shinobi... and Devil Fruit users too? You really think highly of me..." Zixu sighed. "This lineup could take down the Five Kage, and you send them all just for me?"
Coffin lids burst open. The resurrected shinobi raised their heads in eerie unison, like pawns on a chessboard, controlled by unseen hands.
"Being stared at by this many dead people's kinda creepy..." Zixu snapped his fingers. A fireball flared in his left hand. Unnoticed by others, the flame was changing—slowly crackling with arcs of lightning.
Among the enemy was a figure Zixu recognized instantly. Standing on a dune, smoking a cigar, with neatly slicked-back hair and a golden hook glinting under the sun—it was Crocodile.
"I don't like this guy's face," Crocodile said coldly, exhaling smoke.
"Then let's just kill him," said a transparent figure beside him—a tall man, also smoking a cigar, dressed in a tight uniform with a blade that seemed to scream for blood.
Even the surrounding White Zetsu looked odd, their black-and-white stripes eerily resembling Hidan's patterns. Perhaps they too possessed immortality.
Not all the Impure World Reincarnated were strong. Kabuto had a habit of digging up weird graves—one of the summons was a giant wild boar!
The fireball in Zixu's hand transformed fully. Lightning fused with flame—it was no ordinary blaze but a rare hybrid: burning lightning.
"Do it." Crocodile waved. Sand erupted into a storm, blocking out the sun and slicing through everything like sandpaper.
His indiscriminate assault even harmed the White Zetsu. Despite their numbers and immortality, their defenses were weak. Many gave up resisting and self-destructed, releasing clouds of purple poison gas that swirled toward Zixu.
Finally, Zixu launched his flaming lightning—an explosive bolt of crackling destruction.
"No matter what, I've got enough power to rival a Yonko. You think a Shichibukai and some mutts can take me on?" Zixu snapped his fingers. Instantly, the sandstorm froze—like the air itself bowed to him.
His Haki-covered hand slammed behind him.
Invisible man, who had been sneaking up, took the full hit. The pressure of Zixu's Haki was so immense it felt like a mountain had fallen on him. He dropped to his knees, drenched in sweat.
"After all, I'm easily at super-kage level. These small fries aren't even worth my time."
The flaming lightning tore through dozens of White Zetsu, charring them with the smell of burnt flesh. In the flickering light, Zixu looked terrifying—like a god of battle incarnate.
