26 -26 Who Dares to Compare with This Football Match?
“Hey, guess what, there’s gonna be a good show soon!” Lin Yuqing couldn’t help but giggle as soon as Su Ran sat down.
Su Ran laughed lightly, starting to pack his Chinese textbook.
“Hey, hey, why aren’t you asking me what the good show is?
That’s no way to hold people in suspense!” Lin Yuqing puffed out her cheeks in frustration as the conversation didn’t go as she had intended.
“Do you think you would answer if I asked?” Su Ran chuckled, “Knowing what I know and not knowing what I don’t know shouldn’t be strange.”
“I knew I couldn’t fool you,” Lin Yuqing stuck out her tongue, looking at Su Ran, “How well do you know me?”
“It’s very simple.
Let me give you an example.
There was a pig running down the street.
There was a power pole in the middle, and the pig ran straight into it.” Su Ran rubbed his left arm, still numb.
“What does that have to do with anything?
Are you implying that I’m fat by associating me with a pig?” Lin Yuqing hated to hear the word pig.
“You’re kinda like a pig, straightforward, unable to turn corners.” Su Ran laughed teasingly.
“Pfft!”
To everyone’s surprise, it was Han Siying who laughed.
“Siying, you’re laughing at me too!” Lin Yuqing looked furious, glaring at Han Siying in the back row.
“Ah, there’s a reason.” Han Siying held up the book in her hand – “New Laughter Forest.”
“I’ll remember this, Su Ran!” Seeing that Han Siying was not laughing at her, Lin Yuqing vented her anger on Su Ran instead.
Turning her head away, she ignored Su Ran.
Ignore him for a whole class?
That’s a bit long…
I’d better just ignore him for ten minutes.
“Don’t you feel like you owe me an apology?” Not even half a minute passed, and Lin Yuqing turned her head back, her ponytail swishing.
“Now that you mention it, maybe a little bit.”
“So…
tell me what you and Wang Dazhuang talked about, and I might grudgingly forgive you.”
“Aren’t Teacher Zhang and his wife expecting a baby?
Yesterday when I passed by the office, I overheard Teacher Zhang mentioning the due date is in the next couple of days.
He’s taken leave today to accompany her to the hospital for a check-up.” Su Ran whispered to Lin Yuqing, smiling at her childishness.
“Oh, I see,” Lin Yuqing nodded, nonchalantly saying, “Okay, you’re forgiven!”
“You knew about this yesterday and still had Wang Dazhuang carry all the answers.
You’re so wicked!” Lin Yuqing giggled.
“Shush…
it’s sufficient if only you and I know.”
“Well…” Using her sparkling eyes, Lin Yuqing asked, “Why did you approach Teacher Li?
Do tell!”
“Trying to get information from me again, so unlovable!” It seemed Su Ran didn’t want to spill the beans, “You’ll know when school’s over.
It wouldn’t be fun, revealing now.
You’ll see.”
“If you’re not saying, then so be it, who cares?
I’m also not telling you my secret.
Hmph!”
“You never grow up.”
Sure enough, the last class of the day ended in a rush, and students flooded onto the playground.
Being nosy is rooted in the nature of these young people.
Just as Su Ran got up to leave, Lin Yuqing tugged on his sleeve.
“Can we not go?”
“No need to worry.
You’ll see when you go,” Su Ran replied playfully, “Help me buy a bottle of mineral water.
Preferably from ’82.”
“Get lost!” Lin Yuqing swatted him lightly and was the first to jump up and dash out.
Behind them, Liu Yina laughed, “Su the Genius, how will you break through this?
I’ll cheer you on!”
“You’ll see once you go.” Su Ran expressed his helplessness, “Just enjoy the fun, don’t cause any trouble.”
“Off to it, this lady here is well-bred.
The word trouble isn’t in my dictionary!” Liu Yina protested.
“I’m going too.” Han Siying rose from her seat.
Her oversized uniform couldn’t hide her soft curves.
The only spoiler was a row of compasses she had casually stuffed into her pocket.
Su Ran swallowed hard, and laughing awkwardly, he limped towards the soccer field.
On the field, students from several classes had gathered, making the whole place vibrant.
“Look, look, Su the Disabled is here!” someone with sharp eyes noticed a figure from afar, limping unsteadily but still heading towards the field, and immediately called out.
The students on the field raised uproar.
They praised because getting to this point, you’re either a fool or a man, and no one knew Su Ran to be a fool.
“Su the Genius, what’s your game plan?” Zhang Meng asked when Su Ran approached.
He rolled the soccer ball under his feet, beckoning Su Ran with a hook of his hand.
Walking such a long way, Su Ran was somewhat out of breath.
“What’s your plan?”
“8 VS 8, do you dare?
I have 8 classmates here, and you can gather eight to start the game.” Zhang Meng looked scornfully at Su Ran.
“By the way, don’t count on your front row Wang Mazi, he won’t show up today.
You can also play 1 VS 8, of course, if you’re not afraid of dying.”
“Eight people?
That’s a bit of a challenge.” Su Ran slightly frowned.
“No challenge at all!” Teacher Li squeezed out from the crowd, walked up to Su Ran, put his arm around Su Ran’s shoulder, and laughed, “Me!
Colleagues, time to get on the field for some exercise!”
The teachers of mathematics, English, chemistry, physics, the director of studies, and the principal all walked onto the soccer field with a light laugh.
“Wow!
Teachers teaming up?
That’s quite fancy!
How is that fair?”
“The principal!
Oh my god, am I seeing things?”
The students all around broke into a clamor, wondering if their eyes were deceiving them.
“Darn it!
This is our students’ game!
Teachers bullying students, this is not fair!” Zhang Meng gnashed his teeth with rage.
“Fairness is but an illusion, isn’t it?” The principal took a step forward, exuding a strong sense of command.
“Right, right, look at Su Ran.
His health is so bad, and you’re still insisting on playing soccer with him.
Shame on you!
If you have guts, compete in studies or test grades!” A voice of justice came from the crowd. 𝖓𝔬𝔳𝔭𝔲𝔟.𝖈𝖔𝔪
It was a girl, her voice sounded familiar to Su Ran.
He turned to see Liu Yina.
Catching his gaze, Liu Yina made a goofy face at him.
The crowd stirred into a fresh round of discussions.
Zhang Meng’s face turned from green to red, while the students who usually hung out with him turned ghostly pale.
They all started making excuses to Zhang Meng about having things to do or not feeling well and slipped away quickly from the potential trouble spot.
Looking at Zhang Meng standing awkwardly in place, not sure whether to leave or stay, the surrounding students burst into laughter.
“So what?
Are you considering 1 VS 8?” Teacher Li walked closer and jeered.
“Hmph!
Just you wait!” Zhang Meng turned to flee.
“Hey, by the way, your uncle who was acting as the head of the education department has probably been arrested by now for serious misconduct.
Regardless of the outcome, he can forget about retaining his position.” The principal dropped this bombshell casually towards Zhang Meng.
Zhang Meng halted suddenly and then sprinted away with his head down.
The students watching the event broke up to go home for dinner.
Most of them pointed and laughed at the retreating Zhang Meng, seemingly amused by something.
