Chapter 46: Getting the Sacrificial Resource, Outing
"Yes," John grinned. "I trust my monster, and I will pull through it together."
Hearing that, Azelis remembered the scene she saw of John suffering together with Pymon.
"You still want to do that..." Azelis was speechless. But she couldn’t hide the glimmer in her eyes because she found that part about suffering together with a monster very noble.
"John, the way you bond with your monsters is something far advanced and truly noble in comparison to other Tamers. I do care for my pets too, but your view is higher, and I think that’s why you will succeed," Azelis smiled. "I believe only such people can become great Tamers."
As the duo exited the special hall and arrived back in the silent library, she locked the door and continued in a soul whisper. ’I never did that before, but I want to try. Next time, I won’t let my monster suffer alone in their training.’
’You should,’ John smiled. ’And honestly, I also don’t like the contract. I will release my contract with monsters and make a true soul bond that’s stronger than a contract and display a true bond.’
’Now that’d be a miracle I’d want to see. Unfortunately, you can’t put pets in your soul space, use soul synergy, and do other stuff unless you make the contract.’
John snorted and said, ’I’ll do that in the future when I get stronger.’
’Cute. Well, good luck. If you succeed, I’d be the first to follow your new way.’
John didn’t like the automatic contract that was made by some kind of law in this world.
Usually, monsters wouldn’t die after getting contracted, but by chance, if the Tamer dies, all contracted monsters also die.
John didn’t like that. If Tamers die, then their monsters should be free to pocket for others, or like... why not just let them live? Why do they have to die after the Tamer dies?
Shaking his head, John said as the duo finally exited the library, "By the way, I don’t want to choose Silver-rank resources for now, but I want a Gold-rank resource if possible, please."
"If you want one right now, sure. Let’s go."
"Great," John’s eyes twinkled.
’Time to sacrifice a Gold-rank resource and get Xhal Drops. I wonder how many Xhal Drops it would give?’
John couldn’t wait to begin his day in this night of Ouroboros City.
"Teacher Azelis, I’ve had plenty of sleep, so can I go look around the city, please?"
’I also need privacy so I can enter Monster Paradise and do some real work, please.’
However, Azelis’s face showed hesitation. "I want to show you the city, but I am not available after half an hour and I don’t want to let you wander it alone."
"So you need some people," Azelis thoughtfully mumbled.
"No, no," John quickly said. "Please allow me to explore it alone. I’ll be very careful and elusive. My Umbral Drift can also let me escape."
Azelis was taken aback and laughed. "You don’t have to worry about that in the city. No one would dare to do anything funny in the city. You’re safe. It’s just, you might be distracted by the city."
"Oh... the city indeed looks big and magnificent. I want to see what is in it since I couldn’t see much from the sky in detail," John grinned. "I don’t know what’s in those big buildings, shopping districts, and other places without going there."
"Fine. But don’t splurge all the 100 Gold Essence Coins on useless stuff."
"What? You can spend 100 Gold Essence Coins and still end up getting useless stuff?"
"Yeah, depends on your perspective. Like, no need to spend 50 Gold Essence Coins when you only have 100 to eat a rare delicacy meat dish that serves no benefit."
"Or spending Coins to get service of other humans."
’Imagine if there were clubs giving service of monsters,’ John internally snickered. But suddenly cringed as the wind blew.
Who would tell him that such perverse places actually existed, where humans made monsters’ holes their goal? Truly disgusting.
...
After arriving at another building on the mountain—below which was a more populated area of the sect with many people going to and fro—there were footstalls and markets run by various ranks and ages of sect members, from as young as fifteen and sixteen to people in their thirties, as they sold and exchanged their loot acquired from various expeditions and training sessions in wilderness areas.
Azelis took John to a rather luxurious building in this area, where the Ouroboros Hall held their stock of resources bought and sold to sect members.
"Here’s the list. If you have any specific resource you want, you’ll get that," Azelis handed a tablet to John, which suddenly sprung up a hologram displaying the resource’s image as well as its name and attributes.
’Welp, I can’t inspect the resources from this. Hence, Xhalthuun’s shop can evaluate the Xhal Drops count I’d get for sacrificing them.’
John’s eyes flickered. ’In that case...’
"I have a specific requirement on the kind of resource I want," John said as he turned to Azelis and smiled. "I want a Gold-rank resource that has the most amount of spirit energy and potency."
"You really..." Azelis wryly smiled and shook her head. "Fine, whatever you want."
Turning to the person who came to deliver the tablet, she said, "Tell Mister Jixian to get us the Gold-rank resource with the highest spirit energy reading and potency."
And after just a few minutes, a wooden box sealed with some kind of spirit formation arrived.
Azelis also took out a ring from her storage ring and put the box in it. "Here, a gift from your teacher. This storage ring is of King-rank, so it’s fairly big. There are 100 Gold Essence Coins inside as well. Spend them wisely."
"Thank you." John grinned. ’Now I can pretend to store stuff in this ring while actually putting it in my personal storage.’
Obviously, he would store it in his magic storage skill that wouldn’t get lost no matter what—unlike this ring.
With all the tasks done, Azelis finally took John to register his name in the sect and gave him the Ouroboros Hall’s official badge.
"I’d want to give you the Executive Apprentice badge, but since I agreed to the decision, you’ll only become my apprentice if you satisfy everyone by displaying a certain level of talent and combat power."
Azelis ruffled his hair, smiling. "So good luck, and don’t slack if you want to learn under me."
"I won’t."
"Then go and have some fun in the city. I’ll check up in the courtyard tomorrow at noon, and you will also need to take part in the sect’s compulsory activity tomorrow as an official member."
"Gotcha."
...
Azelis told him a few things about the city, like traveling by general transportation like trains and mass carriages would be cheaper than taxis, as well as suggested him some fun places like the Tamer’s Adventurer District, which was both a trading and entertainment area related to monsters and taming.
’That’s a perfect place to lay down the foundation of my new identity,’ John grinned, his eyes displaying a clear thrill at what he was about to do.
Since John was required to earn resources and shit himself, he had decided to use his cards cleverly to get himself a boost.
The first thing he did after descending the mountain was go to the wilderness, out of the city where no one was looking with zero surveillance, and enter Monster Paradise.
Sitting down under the tree, with the Draconite Bloodlight Worm from the branch above looking down curiously, John took out the box containing the Gold-rank resource.
"First, let’s see how much Xhal Drops this thing gets me."
[Sacrificing this Gold-rank Maroon Milk Moondew will get you...
