Chapter 266 - Military Deal
John recalled what Zachary had mentioned earlier, people from the military were supposed to discuss the Growlithe breeding business with him.
"Where are they?" he asked.
"I took them to the conference room," Emerald replied, turning to lead the way.
As they approached the conference room, John noticed two soldiers standing rigidly by the door. When they saw him, one of them knocked twice and called inside, "Boss, Gym Leader John has arrived."
John raised an eyebrow. "Boss?" he muttered to himself. Why would their superior need to personally handle a simple Growlithe breeding deal?
"Alright, let him in!" a voice called from within.
John pushed the door open and stepped inside. Seated at the conference table was a middle-aged man dressed casually, a cup of freshly brewed green tea in front of him. As John entered, the man stood up with a friendly smile.
"My name is Lucas Shaw. I'm the one handling this Growlithe breeding transaction on behalf of the military."
"Pleasure to meet you, Chief Shaw," John said respectfully.
Lucas waved a hand dismissively. "No need for formalities. I'm a disciple of Caine, and our teachers are old friends. I'm a bit older than you, so just call me Lucas."
John saw no reason to refuse. "Lucas," he nodded.
They took their seats, and Lucas poured John a cup of tea before getting straight to business.
"Typically, when we negotiate Growlithe breeding contracts with breeders, we require a commitment to supply a minimum number per year, depending on their facility's capacity," Lucas explained. "Since you received 100 Growlithes from the military, this wasn't a gift, you'll need to return 100 over the next five years, which comes out to 20 annually."
John nodded. He'd been briefed on these terms before.
"Additionally, for the first five years, we'll purchase 20 Growlithes from you annually at 50% of market price. And for external sales, you're allowed to sell 10% of your total stock, meaning 10 Growlithes per year."
Again, John nodded. These conditions were within his expectations.
"However," Lucas leaned forward with a slight grin, "this is just the standard deal. But you, Brother John, are not a standard breeder."
John frowned slightly. "What do you mean?"
"Your concept of 'individual value' has been approved by my master, the Dog King," Lucas said. "And he made a suggestion—he wants us to source elite Growlithes from you."
John instantly understood. Caine had given him that Shiny Growlithe for a reason. This was a test. A way to determine if he could raise high-quality Growlithes. The world famous canime breeder was getting older, and he was laying the groundwork for the next generation of elite handlers.
"I spent a long time thinking about this, discussing it with the higher-ups," Lucas continued. "We've come up with a proposal, let me know if it interests you."
John sipped his tea and listened.
"The military is willing to supply you with an additional 900 Growlithes, bringing your total to 1,000. These are yours for free, no five-year repayment obligation. Plus, your annual sales cap will increase to 20% of your stock, meaning you can sell 200 Growlithes per year."
That was already a solid deal, but Lucas wasn't finished.
"In return, for the next ten years, we'll purchase 50 1V Growlithes and 10 2V Growlithes from you annually at full market price. And since you pioneered the individual value concept, you'll set the price, we'll negotiate from there."
John rubbed his chin thoughtfully. It made sense. Ordinary Growlithes were already in abundant supply with the military and police. What they needed were elite specimens, trained by elite handlers, to create an elite force.
This was a golden opportunity.
"I'm mostly on board with this," John said, "but I want to tweak the final numbers."
Lucas raised an eyebrow. "You want to reduce them?" he asked cautiously.
John chuckled. "No, I want to increase them."
Lucas leaned back, intrigued. "Go on."
"I can provide you with 200 1V Growlithes, 50 2V Growlithes, and 10 3V Growlithes annually. Are you interested?"
Lucas blinked. "Are you saying you can breed that many high-quality Growlithes every year?"
John smirked. "For a normal breeder, that would be impossible. But I'm not normal."
He had his own methods. The Gameboy system gave him an edge no one else had. He could continuously train and optimize his breeding stock without the usual limitations.
Lucas still looked skeptical, but John knew time would prove him wrong.
"Alright," Lucas finally said. "If you can really produce those numbers, this will be a game-changer."
"Then let's talk price," John said, setting his tea down. "The current market rate for a standard Growlithe is about one million. I propose the following: 1IV Growlithes at three million, 2IV Growlithes at ten million, and 3IV Growlithes at thirty million."
Lucas considered the numbers carefully. "That's quite a jump from standard pricing."
"The rarity justifies it," John pointed out. "1V Growlithes are already one in a hundred. The odds get exponentially worse with each additional IV. Breeding high IV Pokemon isn't cheap, and the military will be getting the best stock available."
Lucas nodded slowly. "Alright. We'll run these numbers up the chain, but I think we can work something out." 𝘯𝑜𝑣𝑝𝑢𝘣.𝑐𝑜𝑚
John smiled. "Then I'd say we have a deal."
