Chapter 679: Chapter 679: Directly to the Base
The zombies in H City, ever since they were decimated by a family a few days ago, although they no longer seemed as numerous as before, their quantity was still considerable.
"I just realized, even if we don’t leave the base, we can still kill zombies in the future, by using the teleportation array to come here. There are so many zombies here, and no one else to disturb us, how perfect is that?"
Lin Xiuyuan exclaimed with wide eyes that after killing the zombies, they could just return to the other teleportation array through the space, without even needing to drive a car.
"It’s not just you who’s thought of that, kid, everyone figured that out a long time ago,"
Su Xiangzhe said as he patted Lin Xiuyuan’s shoulder. Indeed, they could use this method, but it wouldn’t look good if they stayed in the base for too long without leaving, so they still had to consider the actual situation.
After returning to their H City home, the family did nothing more than tidy up the yard and the house a little. The "calligraphy and paintings" left on the front door were naturally wiped away, making it at least appear to be a typical, unobtrusive little courtyard.
H City was still devoid of people, so Su Jin felt at ease as she walked into her grandparents’ room on the first floor and then entered the space, activating the new teleportation array.
"I never thought we could come home any time we wanted, even though there’s nothing left here."
Lin Yunguo said as he looked at the familiar room, the walls still bore the marks of Lin Xiuyuan and Su Jin’s growth, although the walls were a lot older now.
"Alright, everyone go in, you must be hungry after traveling all morning. There’s hand-pulled noodles to eat once you get in,"
Li Xiuying said with a smile, urging them on.
The family still had to wait inside the space for Mao Zhihang’s signal, since exiting from the teleportation array would take them to Su Jin’s bedroom, so they needed Mao Zhihang to drive Su Jin out of the base and then find a concealed place for Su Jin to bring the family out.
The hand-pulled noodles were rolled out by Li Xiuying, of course, and the side dishes and broth were made by Lin Yunguo. They usually ate rice at noon, so having noodles occasionally was quite nice, and the flour in the space was exceptionally tasty, almost everyone had two big bowls of noodles.
In the S City base, Mao Zhihang also took the opportunity during a break to return to the villa with Mao Qiqi. Fortunately, there weren’t many people in the villa, but Su Jin still used Local Tyrant Gold’s invisibility ability to get into the car.
With Qiqi there, the three of them quickly found an abandoned place.
"Ah, it feels so good to be back all of a sudden,"
Lu Guanhai said as he stretched, yawning. They had eaten and taken a nap in the space before coming out, which was even faster than a rocket.
Su Jin also took a car out of the space and had the family get in; this way, they officially set off back to the base.
...
When Liao Yifan and the rest returned to the villa, they were unaware that the family had already come back. It was only when they saw the table full of food that they realized Su Jin and the others must have returned.
"Su Jin! Su Jin! You’re back?"
Liao Yifan excitedly called out as she took off her shoes. She had been worrying about the pregnant Su Jin for days and had even dreamed about her giving birth.
"Yifan, come wash your hands and get ready to eat,"
Su Jin said with a beaming smile as she walked out of the kitchen.
"Oh my god, you haven’t changed at all! Do you realize you’ve been gone for a whole 67 days now? If I didn’t know better, I wouldn’t even be able to tell that you’re pregnant!"
Liao Yifan exclaimed in surprise as she circled around Su Jin. Aren’t pregnant women supposed to look a bit clumsy? How could Su Jin, who was pregnant with twins, not show it?
"It’s because I’m wearing loose clothes. If I wore my old clothes, you could tell,"
Su Jin explained that Lin Tianhui and Huang Yunxiang had helped her find some loose-fitting clothes to wear in the space; they were comfortable and easy to wear, and since her arms and legs hadn’t gotten thicker, it was still hard to tell.
"Well, that’s good then. You seem to be in high spirits; the babies haven’t been giving you a hard time, have they?"
Liao Yifan kept asking Su Jin questions, not stopping until she saw that Su Jin indeed did not seem tired. Only then did she feel a bit more relieved.
"Yifan, you’re so curious... don’t tell me..."
Lin Tianhui teased Liao Yifan, but upon seeing Yifan’s increasingly sharper chin, she felt a bit sorry for her, possibly because they had been eating in the base’s cafeteria for this period, and all of them seemed much thinner.
"Aunt Lin, you should stop teasing me; I’ve been missing you all so much, sometimes I really want to quit my job and join you on your adventures outside,"
Liao Yifan said enviously, although she often took trainees outside for real combat, it was never as fun as being with everyone.
"Adventuring outside? Fanfan, don’t forget about me then,"
Guo Yang and the others had also returned by now, and seeing the whole family together, they all became excited.
The first thing everyone was concerned about was Su Jin’s health, but even Guo Yang and the others thought Su Jin was incredible, being able to go out and kill zombies five months into her pregnancy.
"Shitou, Xiao Tian, here’s something for the two of you,"
Lu Hao said with a smile, handing over a fully charged cellphone to them.
Huh? Captain Lu is giving them a cellphone?
Shi Jin’s first reaction was just this.
"Captain Lu, what is this?"
Yin Chengtian also asked, puzzled.
"It’s a video in the photo gallery, take a look,"
Lu Hao replied.
Curiosity piqued, Yin Chengtian and the other person couldn’t help but cover their mouths upon opening the video on the phone; there they were, Xiang Sanjin and the others!
And Old Guan was still alive! Tian Yongyi was there too!
"What?! Let me see,"
Liao Yifan pushed Guo Yang, who had been in front of her, to the side to watch with the others.
In the video, Guan Shouzhong introduced their current situation and the experiences they had over the past few months. He even mentioned Maizi’s story and including the help they had received from Lu Hao’s family after meeting them.
Tears welled up in the eyes of Yin Chengtian and his companions, especially upon hearing about Maizi. However, there were also many jokes spoken in the video, suggesting that if they couldn’t manage in S City Base, they should go find them at H Province Base, and so on.
"These three idiots, who would be unable to manage? They don’t even see who we’re following,"
Yin Chengtian said as he wiped his tears.
"But Old Guan is pretty amazing, actually becoming the Base Leader,"
Liao Yifan was amazed, seeing Guan Shouzhong in the video who seemed much more mature than before and now seemed to have an imposing air about him.
"Pfft, didn’t they all say, if Captain Lu hadn’t gone over and helped them a lot this time, they wouldn’t have been able to continue?"
Yin Chengtian’s words were teasing, but he was genuinely happy for the three of them. Seeing them having a meal with the family made him so envious that he wished he could fly into the video to join them for a drink.
"So you were gone for such a long time this trip to help them in H Province?"
Xue Wanyi asked.
"Not entirely, but the last month was, I suppose. Seeing them there, we decided to stay a bit longer,"
Lu Hao answered.
Now it made sense. Guo Yang and the others understood why the family had been away for so long this time.
"Come on, let’s talk while we eat, or the dishes will get cold,"
Huang Yunxiang called out, it seemed they had a lot to discuss, so it might be best to chat while eating, which would be more lively.
