Bai Xiao grabbed a small backpack and headed out with three others, just in time to bump into some people from the dormitory across from theirs. Two tall, good-looking girls gave them a cold look, especially Bai Xiao. Their noses were practically turned up to the sky.
"A bunch of bumpkins!"
They walked off in their high heels.
Ma Yao was so furious she almost freaked out. If Lin Xiang hadn’t held her back, she would have rushed forward to start a debate, even if it meant throwing punches.
Bai Xiao asked He Juan, "Who were those two?"
He Juan helplessly shook her head, "One of them is Qiang Xinran from the Surgery department, and the other is Meng Han from the Dentistry department. Both of them are locals from Modu. They come from families with a long lineage in medicine. They are also here for studying; it’s said they are just polishing their credentials as their families have already arranged positions for them in a famous hospital in Capital City. They just need this diploma to secure their positions.
But just because they are locals, they act superior, always looking down on outsiders. They don’t get along with Ma Yao because once she swept the trash from our dorm into the hallway, and Ma Yao gave them a piece of her mind. Since then, they have held a grudge against our dorm, always finding faults for no reason.
Just ignore them."
Bai Xiao couldn’t help but chuckle. This school really is like a small-scale society.
Ma Yao spat, "Looking down on us as if they are something special, I don’t know where they get their sense of superiority. It’s bad enough they bully us with dialects we don’t understand. Now they openly insult us. I think they just need a good thrashing to set them straight. I’d like to see whether it’s my fists or their mouths that are harder."
Lin Xiang laughed awkwardly, "Ma Yao has been practicing Sanda since she was young; her family has a martial arts background, so she values physical strength." She could barely hold her back, thanks to her weighing 150 pounds.
Anyone else would have been shaken off by Ma Yao by now.
Only then Bai Xiao realized their dorm was full of distinctive talents.
Changing the subject for Lin Xiang, "Ma Yao, aren’t you supposed to be showing me the way? I don’t know the area. Oh, is there anywhere good to eat nearby? How about I treat everyone to a meal later, as a sort of a meet-and-greet for our dorm?"
Lin Xiang perked up immediately, pulling Ma Yao over, "Yes, yes, right next to the department store there’s a place famous for their pan-fried buns, really delicious and even a century-old brand. It’s always so crowded, usually you can’t even queue up. I heard it’s quite pricey, fifteen yuan for a basket of buns. But I’ve heard from friends who’ve eaten there that it’s so good you can’t stop."
"Oh, and there’s another place next door run by a lady from Sichuan Province. Their spicy dishes are really authentic, reasonably priced, and economical,"
Lin Xiang got really excited when it came to food.
Ma Yao burst out laughing, "You’re already 150 pounds and still fixated on eating. You’d better join me in running every day to give your mom a break."
Bai Xiao couldn’t help laughing too; Lin Xiang’s physique did make her look like a foodie.
Lin Xiang glared, "Oh really! You all are ganging up on me, aren’t you? Watch out for my ’Nine Yin White Bone Claw’—see how I deal with you!" She lunged at Bai Xiao with claws outstretched, considering her an easy target.
Bai Xiao quickly begged for mercy, "Lin Xiang, I was wrong. I was wrong!"
"What were you wrong about?" Lin Xiang released Bai Xiao, asking earnestly. 𝚗𝚘v𝚙𝚞b.𝚌𝚘m
Bai Xiao chirped cheerfully, "I was wrong not knowing that you are such a foodie. What if we finish eating and can’t pay the bill!"
Turning, she ducked behind Ma Yao.
Ma Yao waved her fist at Lin Xiang, the threat clear. Lin Xiang stomped her foot in frustration.
All four of them laughed.
