Chapter 535: Chapter 351 Defeated Jiang Ning

Friday afternoon after school.

Jiang Ning stayed in the classroom a while longer to avoid the rush of students leaving at the end of the school day.

He sat quietly at his desk, bidding farewell to each student until, at last, only a few remained.

The classroom was serene after school let out, with only those who were in no hurry to leave, as the anxious students had all gone.

Chen Qian, who was addicted to studying, was never absent.

Huang Yuzhu held his phone horizontally, playing a game; his fingers tapped the screen, launching marbles to shatter the glass obstacles in front. The imagery was beautiful, and the special effects were cool.

Usually, even after school, using a phone in the school was a nervous affair, fearing a sudden appearance of a teacher who might confiscate the phone. But now was truly a time without any restrictions.

Xue Yuantong ran into the classroom from the hallway, her clear, bright eyes filled with eager anticipation, "Jiang Ning, Jiang Ning, can we go now?"

"Yeah, sure." Jiang Ning stood up and left the classroom. Despite the mid-term exams next week, he didn’t bring a single book with him.

It was the same as before; after school let out, they would head to the snack street in the city.

Jiang Ning wheeled his bike out of the bike shed and rode straight onto the campus trails. Today was a holiday, and the campus rules weren’t as strict.

Leaving the campus behind on his mountain bike, weaving through the city’s streets and alleys, Xue Yuantong remained quiet on the back seat. She only spoke when they were in less crowded areas, like when they passed an old alley where she mentioned she’d been there before, noting a breakfast shop tucked away inside. Its only fault was the secluded location.

Unfortunately, now, the shop had a different sign, probably gone out of business.

Xue Yuantong then remembered the owners of the shop, an old couple with kind faces. Once, she and her mother went there for breakfast and only ordered a bowl of soy milk, and the Boss Lady generously gave them an extra bowl to share.

’I wonder where they opened their shop now,’ Xue Yuantong mused, with a thoughtful expression on her face.

Jiang Ning turned out of a few alleys and entered the most magnificent road in Yuzhou City—Yu Zhou Avenue.

He cycled along the tree-shaded pedestrian path. It was only four in the afternoon, not yet time for the workday’s end, so the road wasn’t crowded.

Soon, up ahead was the Snowflake Lake Bridge. Past the bridge and around the medical college, they would arrive at the university town snack street.

"Jiang Ning, Jiang Ning, I want to get off!" Xue Yuantong called out.

Hearing this, Jiang Ning applied the brakes, and, acted on by the force, Xue Yuantong involuntarily pressed against him.

This had happened more than once or twice in the past year, and Xue Yuantong was used to it.

She hopped off the bike, gazing at the magnificent bridge before her. 𝖓𝔬𝖛𝔭𝔲𝖇.𝔠𝔬𝖒

The Snowflake Lake Bridge, nearly 900 meters long and about 40 meters wide, wasn’t just for transportation; it was also a scenic bridge over the Snowflake Lake scenic area.

To spare Jiang Ning the effort, Xue Yuantong got off the bike and walked her way up the bridge, with Jiang Ning pushing the bike behind her.

Xue Yuantong nervously took out her phone; a winding wooden walkway spanned over the distant waters, with people walking across it.

The evening sun cast its light over the expansive lake, glinting like fire on the water’s surface, as if the lake itself had caught flame. Xue Yuantong stood on the bridge watching the fiery scene.

She took a photo, quickly pocketing her phone, fearful of accidentally dropping it into the lake—the loss would be too great.

Moving forward, Xue Yuantong thought about sending the photo to Jiang Ning when she got home and connected to wifi, so they could both keep it.

At the highest point of the bridge, Xue Yuantong got back onto the bike, repeatedly urging Jiang Ning to go slow.

But it was a long descent, and it felt wrong not to make the most of the mountain bike on the journey down after they had pushed it all the way up.

Thus, as they went downhill off the bridge, Jiang Ning shifted the gears of the mountain bike to the highest and lowest settings, shooting down like an arrow towards the base of the bridge.

The speed was frightening, with the wind howling in his ears, even overpowering the sound of cars descending the bridge.

The risk was high—if they lost balance, they would definitely end up in the hospital. But with Jiang Ning’s control, even at ten times the speed, he could still handle it with ease.

All the way down the bridge, Jiang Ning never touched the pedals again, passing two green lights at the perfect moment, allowing Xue Yuantong to recover from her near-death fright.

The university town snack street was well-constructed with several classic snacks quite famous. Xue Yuantong bought steamed buns and a meat egg burger, and at a fruit shop, she picked out a sugar cane, from which the owner extracted a cup of fresh juice.

Jiang Ning had never had sugar cane juice before and asked, "Is it good?"

Xue Yuantong took a sip and savored, "It’s a bit sweet."

As they chatted and continued strolling forward, Xue Yuantong noticed a fat middle-aged woman with a silly expression sitting in the bustle of the snack street.

The woman’s clothes were dirty, her face blank.

At first, Xue Yuantong felt some sympathy, but then the feeling faded. Drawing closer to Jiang Ning, she whispered, "Chen Siyu told me that lady is a well-known local fool. She likes to sit in the center of the snack street. Last time Chen Siyu and her sister were passing by with a little cake, the woman grabbed it from their hands."

Jiang Ning had heard about this incident. This fat, silly-looking woman wasn’t completely foolish. After snatching Chen Siqing’s cake, she had said, "Are you treating me to cake?"

Chen Siyu was furious; her little cake had cost 25 yuan, earned over several days of saving pocket money.

The fatty woman’s frame was large, her arms even sturdier than those of the average man, her face foolish. If there was a conflict, the ones to suffer would be two young girls, so they had no choice but to swallow their anger.

Angered, Chen Siyu cursed several times, yet here the fat woman still sat.

Xue Yuantong held Jiang Ning’s wrist tightly, moving closer to a roadside shop. At that moment, two students holding freshly-bought milk tea passed by the fatty woman.

With a swift reach, the woman easily snatched the milk tea from the students’ hands, and a silly smile spread across her face, "Treating me to a drink?"
