Chapter 559: Chapter 362: Ashamed of One’s Ugliness_2
Jiang Junlong in the river raised his hand, "Don’t move yet, I have something to say!"
Duan Shigang looked at Jiang Junlong, puzzled, "What’s up?"
At this moment, Jiang Junlong moved slowly toward the riverbank as he shouted, "I’m afraid you’ll splash me with water!"
Before, his cousin Jiang Ning had successfully leaped over the river. They were fine, but the outcome might not be the same with these two attempting the jump.
Jiang Junlong and Shen Qing’e, as if fleeing a disaster, hurriedly got ashore; not only did they get ashore, but they also went up to the wheat field where they could rest easy.
Duan Shigang then looked toward Deng Xiang and the others on the other side.
Qiu Die said, "I have plans this afternoon. If my clothes get wet, it would be too troublesome, so I’ll get to shore first."
Deng Xiang looked at his buddy, then at Gong Xuan.
Gong Xuan’s expression changed, she hesitated for two seconds, then suddenly said with confidence,
"Brother Gang, Brother Hao, I believe you can do it, I’ll wait for you two on the shore."
Duan Shigang and Ge Hao twitched the corners of their mouths and shouted in unison, "Xiangzi?"
Deng Xiang: "..."
Wringing his brain for ideas and finding none, he squeezed out an awkward smile,
"Brother Gang, Haozi, I’ll stand here with you!"
Duan Shigang was touched, "Good brother."
He then looked determinedly at Jiang Ning and Gong Xuan, firming up his resolve.
Ge Hao was even more prepared; he had been searching for the narrowest part of the river and finally found it on the south side.
Duan Shigang chose the north side. The two, one south and one north, flanked Deng Xiang in the middle.
Deng Xiang was inwardly distressed but could not say it outright.
Xue Yuantong was peering into the bucket at the fish while Jiang Junlong and Shen Qing’e were looking toward the shore. They were not saints; with such a spectacle unfolding, how could they miss it?
After half a minute of preparation, Duan Shigang and Ge Hao were ready to jump.
The riverside had a slope, which was not conducive to taking a running start. Using all his strength, he kicked off hard, and his body immediately soared into the air.
The figure of the young man soared above the river, shining brightly under the dazzling sunlight.
Before making his leap, Duan Shigang had thought he would be like a tiger in the jungle, leaping across the river to reach the other side.
However, what really happened was that as soon as he jumped up, his heart sank.
He barely covered half of the river’s width before he fell into the water, sending up a tremendous splash.
Similarly, on the south end, a large splash of water erupted.
Deng Xiang, standing in the middle, got doused thoroughly like a drowned rat.
As for Duan Shigang and Ge Hao, they were soaked through by the splashing water waves.
Qiu Die: "Is that all?"
She spread her hands, making no attempt to hide her contempt.
Duan Shigang and Ge Hao had suffered a huge embarrassment and dared not even look up; they were too ashamed.
After witnessing this, Jiang Ning picked up the bucket and turned away, speaking in an indifferent tone, "Let’s go, it’s time to go home."
Xue Yuantong hurriedly followed with small steps.
Jiang Junlong and Shen Qing’e put on their shoes and followed suit.
Throughout the entire time, Jiang Ning just carried his bucket and didn’t utter a word of ridicule.
However, Gong Xuan, sensitive as she was, sensed an extreme form of indifference. It was infinitely more superior than disdain, as if, from the beginning to the end, he had never taken Duan Shigang and the others seriously at all.
Gong Xuan suddenly got goosebumps, hugging her arms and harboring an unbelievable hypothesis, ’Could it be that we are not even as important as a few wild fish in his heart?’
"Brother Ning, put the bucket in front of my car," Jiang Junlong found a rope and secured the bucket.
The three people from the river, Duan Shigang and the others, wrung out their clothes in silence.
Noticing that Jiang Ning was about to leave, Deng Xiang looked towards the small puddle by the river where their catch was stored, just caught and yet to be transported.
He clambered ashore in a few steps and called out, "Jiang Ning, do you have anything to carry fish in, lend us something, would you?"
Hearing this, Jiang Ning told his cousin, "Give them a couple of plastic bags."
...
The journey back home went smoothly. Jiang Junlong was careful with the bucket of fish, so he didn’t speed up, but they arrived home in about twenty minutes regardless.
Jiang Ning pushed open the courtyard door, "Stay here for lunch."
Jiang Junlong entered the yard with the bucket, his face all aglow, "Absolutely, we finally caught some fish; we have to try them."
Shen Qing’e, out of the blue, asked, "Do any of you know how to cook?"
Then it was Xue Yuantong’s turn to step forward. She brought out a big basin and said as if it were the most natural thing in the world, "Leave all these fish to me!"
Jiang Ning picked up the bucket and poured its contents into the big basin. Instantly, accompanied by the sound of splashing, the basin was filled with fish of various kinds, frantically swimming around. It was such a sight that it greatly lifted one’s mood.
Jiang Ning activated his Spiritual Power and silently passed it over the fish to purify the impurities within that were difficult to cleanse.
After that, he took the initiative to remove ’Cut Fish’ from the big basin and placed it into another smaller basin.
Xue Yuantong looked at the Cut Fish and pondered, "There are a total of eight, perfect for stewing with eggplant." 𝑛𝘰𝑣𝑝𝑢𝑏.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"There are also three black fish... hmm, Jiang Ning, didn’t you bring back a couple of tomatoes? Let’s make tomato black fish slices!"
She then looked at the grass carp and crucian carp in the basin, "Let’s braise these, but it seems there’s too much, what to do, Jiang Ning?"
These two types of fish were caught in the largest numbers. If they were all cooked, it would probably fill a very large basin.
Seeing her concerned look, Jiang Ning smiled, "Just give some to our neighbors. They should really appreciate wild fish."
The river dam community had bungalows, unlike urban apartment buildings. It still retained the living habits of the countryside; people often chatted outside their homes, familiar with each other, and the neighbors were quite amiable.
Xue Yuantong thought this was a good idea and carried some fish on a plate to the neighbors.
In no time, Xue Yuantong returned with her hands free of the basin but now holding a plate with a large chicken leg on it, attached with a lot of meat.
She was all smiles, "Xiao Fan’s family slaughtered a big rooster today; this is what they gave me!"
Jiang Ning: "That’s nice."
