Chapter 599: Chapter 380: I Am Knowledgeable
May 30, 2014.
It had been a deep night, the deep blue night sky dotted with stars, and the bright moon hung high, casting a mysterious veil of silver light over everything.
Far from the city, the river dam was exceptionally tranquil, and the country lane was devoid of any people, as though the whole world had fallen asleep.
Inside the bedroom, the door was shut, with only slivers of moonlight filtering through the window, falling on the desk and on Xue Yuantong’s hands and her youthful face.
Today, Jiang Ning wasn’t reading on the sofa; unusually, he had moved a bar stool next to Xue Yuantong and joined her in playing on the computer.
Every weekend, Xue Yuantong would stay up very late, never going to sleep before midnight.
The bedroom fan was turned on at its lowest setting, generating a gentle breeze that lifted strands of Xue Yuantong’s hair.
The room was not hot at all; instead, it possessed the pleasant coolness of spring.
Jiang Ning usually set up Arrays in the room, and these Arrays were much better than air conditioning, making one feel as though they were in the midst of nature.
In front of the window, there were several flower pots that Jiang Ning tended to every morning by channeling some Wood Spiritual Energy, making them burst with vitality.
Previously Xue Yuantong had seen how well the flowers were thriving and often boasted in front of Jiang Ning, claiming that it was all thanks to her care.
Xue Yuantong logged off the LOL game. Had Jiang Ning not come over, she would have definitely continued playing, but with Jiang Ning here, she wanted to play something else with him.
"Jiang Ning, shall we play a two-player game?"
"What two-player game?" he asked, puzzled.
Xue Yuantong, curled up in her chair, giggled, "You know, that kind of game~"
Saying this, she typed into the browser’s search bar the website 4399.
Upon entering the gaming site, Xue Yuantong clicked on the two-player games tab and searched for a suitable game.
She wasn’t in a hurry. While searching for a game, she casually used a bamboo pick to eat a piece of watermelon.
Although not as delicious as Jiang Ning’s watermelon, this one was also sweet and juicy. Xue Yuantong wasn’t picky and, after a bite of watermelon, she used two bamboo picks to create makeshift chopsticks and happily pinched a chip.
"Let’s play this game. It’s for two players," Xue Yuantong said as she clicked the left mouse button to enter the game loading page.
Hearing her, Jiang Ning looked at the screen, which displayed the game title ’Dual Blade Warrior’.
He paused for a moment, having played this game before. It was a side-scrolling game similar to Dungeon and Fighter in appearance, but much more cartoonish and mini.
However, he had only played it in the single-player mode before, as the highest requirement of the game wasn’t a fancy 8090 graphics card but rather a partner.
He moved his stool closer to Xue Yuantong, squeezing together with her in front of the desk.
Xue Yuantong turned her head and looked closely, her dark eyes reflecting his shadow.
"Pull me closer," Xue Yuantong said, trying to maintain her dignity by adding, "It’s easier to play the game this way."
Jiang Ning saw through her intention but complied anyway.
Now, truly pressed together, she could feel the warmth of Jiang Ning’s arm.
A warmth entered Xue Yuantong’s eyes, joy swirling in her heart and blooming brilliantly on her sweet face as if dispelling all gloom.
"You’re the soldier with red hair, and I’m the one with black hair, got it?" Xue Yuantong pointed at the two soldiers on the screen, reminding him.
Once they were ready, she tapped the keyboard, "Charge into the battlefield!"
She took over the left half of the keyboard, while Jiang Ning managed the right half.
They cut through their enemies together, overcoming challenges as Jiang Ning dropped his virtual knife for a chicken, using it as a weapon, swinging it around.
Xue Yuantong found this amusing, so she commanded the black-haired warrior to run up behind Jiang Ning’s red-haired soldier and struck it down.
"Oh no, Jiang Ning, I accidentally hit you!"
While speaking, she casually picked up the chicken, unable to hide her smile.
In ’Dual Blade Warrior’, during two-player mode, players could hurt each other, and that’s how she managed it.
Jiang Ning didn’t know what to say. Later, when they were navigating through obstacles, Xue Yuantong grabbed a huge tiger to ride on, delighting in her frenzied slaughters.
Jiang Ning’s red-haired soldier lifted a large rock and crushed the tiger, causing Xue Yuantong’s black-haired soldier to tumble to the ground.
"Oops, didn’t see that," Jiang Ning said with an apology in his voice but his actions continued unabated, mounting the big tiger and flitting through the battlefield.
Xue Yuantong protested, "You did that on purpose, didn’t you?"
Jiang Ning replied, "Nonsense, it was just a misfire."
During the rest of the game, Xue Yuantong frequently disrupted Jiang Ning in attempts to seize his powerful weapons.
Jiang Ning, highly reactive and systematically flawless whether in movement or attack, sustained more damage from Xue Yuantong’s sneaky moves than from any monsters or bosses.
Despite this, amidst laughter, they fought together till the final boss, effortless as slicing through vegetables and defeating the one-eyed giant, where they encountered the princess.
Xue Yuantong and Jiang Ning paid no mind to the princess.
"Jiang Ning, I’ve tolerated you for a long time, let’s duel!" the black-haired soldier holding a long sword declared.
"Come on."
The two game characters began fighting amongst themselves, and at last, Jiang Ning triumphed over Xue Yuantong by a slight margin.
"I can still play!" Xue Yuantong, not satisfied, nearly won against Jiang Ning!
Jiang Ning took a bite of watermelon, "No more for now!"
Xue Yuantong, so frustrated, nearly bit him like the watermelon.
After winning, he was being insufferably smug.
"If we keep playing, we’d have to start over. Let’s continue tomorrow," Jiang Ning said earnestly.
"I’ll let you off tonight!" Xue Yuantong, magnanimous, didn’t stoop to his level.
