Chapter 288: Chapter 236 Continue Using (Seeking Subscription!)_1

The next day.

Early in the morning, there is someone driving into Naidan’s Manor to deliver food.

After passing two checkpoints, a rather shabby looking small truck managed to enter the manor’s security perimeter smoothly.

They continued to drive a further two kilometers.

The vehicle arrived at the last checkpoint of the manor, which was guarded by Naidan’s ’guards’. Unlike the previous two checkpoints which were guarded by ’camp masters’ under Naidan, this defense ring was much more fortified.

The driver’s name was Lu Ci. His parents were both Chinese who grew rice in this area, while he worked as a driver under Naidan’s influence. His daily tasks were to deliver wine, meat, rice, and the like to the manor, as well as steamed buns and cornbread for the women.

Although he grew up here, he had no regard for these dough sellers and wished he could kill these scum. However, he was powerless to act. He had previously considered moving to Wei Jun’s territory, but before he could make a decision, he was banished by Naidan. His fate seemed sealed, as he had a family to support and could not afford to make any trouble.

Upon approaching the manor’s checkpoint, he noticed that there was no one outside. He didn’t think much of it as these guys frequently overslept or spent their mornings gambling together.

"Beep...."

"Beep...."

Lu Ci sounded the horn several times, but no one came to open the gate. He didn’t dare open it himself for fear of causing a misunderstanding and ending up in trouble with the guards.

"Where the hell are they all?" Lu Ci murmured under his breath, furrowing his eyebrows.

Lu Ci then got out of the car, circumvented the roadblock, and approached the sentry shed.

The door was closed.

Lu Ci leaned in and carefully listened, but after a while, he couldn’t hear any sounds of drinking, gambling, or snoring.

"Damn, are they all sleeping?" cursed Lu Ci in his mind.

He then pushed open the door, but the sight inside nearly scared him out of his wits. There were six people inside, or rather, six corpses with unidentifiable wounds, as if they had been beaten to death.

The first two checkpoints seemed perfectly normal, but here there was a problem. As for what was happening inside the manor... Lu Ci didn’t dare to imagine. He was only about two hundred meters from the manor. Usually, at this time, one could hear the sounds of morning exercises in the manor and, at least, some faint noises.

Now, it was eerily silent.

The bird song, which previously seemed quite pleasing, now sounded like the soundtrack of a horror movie.

Something must have happened inside, a terrible incident.

What should I do?

Lu Ci took a deep breath. His mind was a mess. Going in was out of the question. What if he encountered the ’criminals’ and was killed?

Go back.

Lu Ci immediately made up his mind, dashed out of the shed, started the car, and, with difficulty, turned around on the narrow road, heading towards the outside. When he had entered, he was calm, but when leaving, Lu Ci’s legs were soft and he could only press on the accelerator in fits and starts.

Cold sweat was constantly dripping off his forehead.

Seeing Lu Ci’s car returning so soon, the men at the second checkpoint quickly stopped him. There was still plenty of time to unload all the cargo on the truck.

Lu Ci parked the car, jumped out, but due to the fright, his legs gave out and he ended up on his knees.

"Why are you back?" asked one of the leaders, nibbling on an apple.

Lu Ci quickly stood up, his face filled with panic, and stammered: "Over there, over there, everyone’s dead."

"Dead? What do you mean?" the leader asked puzzledly, not thinking too much. After all, in this place, death was common and people died every day.

Swallowing, Lu Ci pointed in the direction of the manor and said, "Everyone at the checkpoint ahead is dead. I’m not sure about the manor... I didn’t dare to go in."

At these words, the color drained from the leader’s face, as he blurted out:

"What? Everyone at the checkpoint is dead?"

Lu Ci remained silent, only strongly nodding his head in response.

Realizing the severity of the situation, the leader quickly tossed aside the apple and shouted:

"Everyone gather around, be on alert! I’m going to inform Guan Kun."

Hearing this, the more than thirty people in this checkpoint immediately went on guard. Even though they were not fully aware of the situation, from both their leader’s and Lu Ci’s expressions, it was clear that something major had occurred at the manor.

The leader then hastily drove off in a shabby jeep to inform his camp master. There was no signal tower here, so cell phones were useless. Even if there had been a landline, it would have been located within the manor and at the first line of defense; he certainly didn’t dare to go there now.

He didn’t rush in recklessly. They may have been under Guan Kun’s command, but there was a conflict between them and the ’guards’ inside. Therefore, they were not willing to throw their lives away for Naidan, especially when they didn’t know what was going on inside.

...

At this time, Guan Kun, as one of the five ’camp masters’ under Naidan, had just gotten up and was cleaning up, relishing the sound of his men training. These were his key assets. Among Naidan’s nearly 1,500 men, though his forces had been trimmed several times, Guan Kun was still the most powerful with over four hundred men. His forces were well equipped with various types of weapons.

Just then, his deputy rushed over in a panic, exclaiming:

"Boss, something’s wrong. Something’s happened over at Naidan’s."

"What happened? What’s the matter?" Guan Kun said nonchalantly, wiping water from his mouth. As far as he was concerned, Naidan had always been trouble. Why would it matter if something happened to him?

His deputy replied quickly, "According to Lu Ci who delivers food, all of Naidan’s men in the sentry shed are dead. He was too scared to go in, says there weren’t even any sounds of morning exercises."
