Chapter 376: Chapter 306: Endgame (Please Subscribe!)_1

All day long.

Martin Bahati didn’t sleep at all, repeatedly considering the potential risks of the following day. Three other deputy leaders, along with the newly appointed chief of the Karonba tribe, were also kept awake.

They were all concerned about one thing: their own interests.

Early the next morning.

The cleaning staff detected a faint smell of blood upon entering the house. Even the music was still left on, which was unlike Karonba’s usual behaviour, given he would normally switch it off when he was tired.

The imaginative janitor immediately let out a scream and bolted out, dustpan in hand. Shortly after, a troop of security guards came charging in.

Everyone was taken aback.

Karonba and a few of his confidants were found dead in the basement of the house, with no signs of invasion by outsiders. The scene suggested that they killed each other. Each of them had a gun, and the fruit and wine around them were spilled everywhere. The house was always loud, so no one from the outside noticed what happened inside.

Why were there no women there? Well, that aspect was precisely why Tang Qing decided to send them all away to heaven in a heartbeat. After beholding such a sight, he quickly cleansed his eyes by watching a normal movie.

Soon, Karonba’s younger brother, Karul, received the news and hurriedly arrived at the scene. He had luckily been out for the night and thereby survived.

Seeing his brother’s lifeless body did not evoke any sadness in Karul, but gave him a sense of thrill.

Now he could finally take over his brother’s position and continue to indulge in debauchery. His father had only two sons, and with his brother gone, the position of chieftain was his for the taking, by his estimation.

But he also didn’t dare to act too overtly. He immediately tried to call his father, but couldn’t get through. He took it for an issue with the signal, which was not unusual given the remote and backward location. They never had strict requirements about signals.

"Notify the deputy leaders to hold a meeting here. My brother must have gotten into a quarrel with them. Let them come and elect a new leader," Karul ordered to Karonba’s butler who had just rushed over from the county town.

The butler was a relative of his family. Karul saw him as one of his own, even though he didn’t like the way the butler had previously controlled his spending. He was planning to send him to retire in the tribe once he became the chieftain.

The butler quickly agreed and went out hurriedly to make phone calls. Karul was a fool, but the butler was not. The situation was filled with bizarre coincidences, and he needed to inform the tribal chief right away, because the wayward Karul was bound to make matters even worse.

But he was unable to reach the tribal chief.

"No luck in connecting, but let’s first discuss my brother’s last rites," Karul said indifferently, thinking that the incapacitated phone didn’t change the eventual outcome.

Not long after, four leaders arrived at Karonba’s mansion. They were a bit too hurried, but Karul didn’t think much of it. The butler, who was smarter, kept giving Karul signaling glances, which Karul totally ignored.

The butler was helpless. It was true when they said that lack of education could be disastrous; it harms both others and oneself. But there was nothing he could do. Karul was almost illiterate and lived on ’instinct’ alone. His mind was full of women and cocaine.

After the round of greetings.

They all sat in a circle.

Martin Bahati and the other three deputy leaders were all there, along with their respective tribal chiefs. For Martin Bahati to take the lead, the deputy leaders alone couldn’t make the decision. Only their respective tribal chiefs could, but the chiefs were next in line to succeed the leadership of their respective tribes, so their words did carry some weight. So, after careful consideration, they persuaded their tribal chiefs to agree, allowing Martin Bahati to become the leader.

After all, without the agreement of the tribal chiefs, they would not be able to pass a decision for a 25 percent increase in expenditure.

There was only one representative of Karonba’s tribe, Karul. Even though he failed to reach his father, Karul didn’t care. He wanted to quickly close the deal. In any case, his tribe was considered the most powerful, and he wouldn’t lose the leadership election based on custom.

"Everyone, what do we do now?" Martin Bahati swept his gaze around the room and noticed everyone’s odd expressions.

"I think the first thing we should do is to bury my brother Karonba. In the meantime, we should elect a new leader today. Rest assured, I will lead everyone to make a lot of money. Once the iron mine is open for extraction, there will be a steady flow of money," Karul was the first to speak up. His mind was a complete mess.

This was the unanimous opinion of everyone present.

The rest didn’t comment, they just looked at Karonba’s wastrel younger brother as if he were a fool. They were already aware of the conditions of the black prison. Still trying to blackmail that Chinese boss? They must be crazy.

A strong dragon cannot crush the local snake.

This time they were crushed to immobility by the strong dragon and dare not rebel.

Martin Bahati wondered to himself: How did this idiot stay alive until now?

Just at that moment.

A soldier rushed in and whispered something into Martin Bahati’s ear, causing him to lose his composure.

Karonba’s father had a stroke and passed away.

The younger brother, Karul, forcefully took over the position of tribal chief.

This news would not have been a big deal on any other day, but happening on this day meant it was the work of the ’Black Prison’.

The other deputy leaders also received the same news and looked startled.

They originally thought they had to be gentle to avoid upsetting Karonba’s father, but now it seemed unnecessary. Each of them looked at Karul with pity in their eyes.

This man looked like he would not live much longer.

"Ahem, the funeral is a given, we will discuss that later. First, we need to select a new leader. Do you have any good suggestions?" Martin Bahati asked after clearing his throat.

Karul confidently stood up: "My brother is dead, and as his brother, it’s right and proper for me to be the leader."

Idiot.

This was the sentiment shared by everyone at the scene, even the people of Karonba’s tribe. "This dimwit, he’ll get us all killed."

"Alright, Karonba is dead, and it’s not up to you to decide who will lead. We are an alliance of several tribes and will vote, as usual. Whoever receives the most votes will be the leader," Martin Bahati replied dismissively.

Karul grew agitated. "You all vote for me. When I become the leader, we will extort the Chinese boss and I’ll give you eighty percent of the money we get."

A few other deputy chiefs did not respond and pretended they hadn’t heard.

Martin Bahati inwardly cursed: ’Moron.’

The bloody iron mine attracted people from Black Prison in the first place. If you become a leader, you’ll kill us all. If your brother hadn’t been greedy and scared away the so-called ’docile’ Americans, how could the ’devious’ Chinese boss have taken over?

Although he benefited significantly and became the leader, the feeling of not having control over his life greatly diminished his joy.

"Let’s vote by show of hands. Those who agree to let me be the leader, please raise your hand," Martin Bahati was the first to put his right hand up.

The other three deputy chiefs glanced at each other and saw the resignation in each other’s eyes. They also raised their hands. They were fish on the chopping board, at the mercy of others. Before they found the other party’s weakness, it would be wise to stay obedient, lest they end up joining Karonba in the earth.

Karul was infuriated by this, his brain finally showing signs of intelligence.

He rose immediately and pointed angrily at the deputy chiefs. "You... I see... You definitely conspired to kill my brother."

This is the end.

That was the butler’s thoughts at that moment.

He thought, Karul is stirring up trouble; even if you thought that, there was no need to say it aloud.

"Karul, you should not speak out of turn. We could never engage in such a heinous act," one of the deputy chiefs replied coldly, staring at Karul. They were not going to take the blame for this. It was your brother who brought about his own death.

"Hmph, it must be you. Wait and see, I’m going back to the tribe, I will expose you all, I will return!" Karul exploded, furiously.

He then stormed outside, intending to tell his father and withdraw from the alliance.

"Bang."

"Ah... Who the hell shot me? Kill him for me," Karul bellowed, after barely taking two steps. A gunshot rang out. Karul dropped to one knee, clutching his wound and howling. The members of his tribe were being held at gunpoint by the others, too frightened to move.

Even if there were no guns pointed at them, they wouldn’t avenge Karul.

Karul was a fool, but they weren’t.

At this moment, Martin Bahati got up and walked over to Karul. Looking down at him from above with a smirk, Karul flinched. Martin Bahati then slowly took a gun from one of his men’s hands.

He already knew that Karul... was his "present" from Black Prison.

Seeing this, Karul was terrified.

"Bahati, what are you doing? If I die, my father won’t let any of you off," said Karul, in panic. He still couldn’t understand how things had taken such a wild turn.

"Your father? As far as I know, your father is no longer the chief of your tribe," Martin Bahati replied with a cold chuckle, squatting down next to Karul.

Karul’s face turned pale. "What? You guys, you..."

"Bang."

"You know too much," Martin Bahati said nonchalantly. By the time the new leader of the Karonba tribe takes the helm, this entire incident will fall on his shoulders.

Any way it goes, if it’s not one thing, it’s the other.

Who else was supposed to bear the brunt of it other than the one who benefited the most? The position of the tribal leader certainly had a higher weight in gold compared to the leader of the alliance and would certainly yield greater benefits. The income of the county town did not compare much to the various gemstones and gold minerals in the jungle, unless the iron mine starts operating. Only then would the leader’s income be comparable to the Karonba tribal leader.

And that would take a few years to occur.

Thus, Martin Bahati was only an indirect beneficiary.

Thinking of this, a chill ran down Martin Bahati’s spine.

In one night.

Those who were marked for death had met their end. Not one had escaped; they had all fallen into a well-laid trap.

They had all boarded the "pirate ship."

Martin Bahati was left with the hope that the people from Black Prison would keep their word and not harm them.

Nevertheless, he was not overly worried. After all, they had shared interests and were allies. His death would not benefit Black Prison in any way.
