After reading the conversation between Su Yu and his wife, Tang Qing suddenly remembered something.
"Tang Yi, are Su Yu’s nearby assassins still present?"
He recalled that Myanmar had also left a backup plan this time. If Su Yu did not surrender, they would send him to heaven, which would make it much easier to either frame Ling or deal with the chaotic subordinates of Su Yu.
Why was this method not employed before?
Quite simply, the conditions were lacking. As long as illicit trade continued, not just Su Yu and his associates, but also leaders of minor forces, would resist to their death rather than contemplate surrender.
Now that they had lost their main source of income, this plan could proceed.
In reality, Tang Qing was truly reluctant to engage with the darkest aspects of this world and commit murder, but he had no choice. Since he desired power, he was inevitably going to encounter and even employ these sinister methods.
The Yangon sector seemed to have a well-laid plan this time.
Since Su Yu is potentially a future ally, it would be necessary to assist him a bit. Though Tang Qing could use this as a bargaining chip in negotiations with Su Yu, he chose not to.
All the intrigue has been exhausted.
Now it was time for honest stratagems.
Such methods were no longer suited for Su Yu.
Tang Yi replied, "Commander, they are lying in wait on the front hill and the right rear hill of the manor. If Su Yu rejects the offer from Yangon, they are ready to assassinate him at any time."
Tang Qing nodded and commanded, "Tang Yi, consider these people as gifts and present them to Su Yu. Instruct our fighters to take action, but only to knock them unconscious. Do not kill them, leave their fate to Su Yu. Also, consider Su Yu as a protection target. He cannot die before we reach an agreement."
"Yes, Commander."
Tang Yi agreed and turned to give orders to the nearby soldiers.
When he finished, Tang Qing left and prepared to go to the training center for rigorous training. Although the likelihood of facing danger was low, strength was a biological instinct.
Myanmar.
Inside a straw hut near Su Yu’s manor...
There were over twenty people sleeping inside, and their snoring was almost loud enough to blow the roof off. However, they were used to it. Because they were up against regular soldiers from Myanmar, Su Yu’s subordinates maintained a high level of training intensity.
Their combat power remained impressive.
They had been tired all day.
Everyone was in deep sleep.
Suddenly...
One of the men, who hadn’t been snoring, opened his eyes. Before his eyes were fully open, a barely detectable red light flashed in them. He sat up and, using the moonlight, glanced at the people inside the room before heading outside.
He bypassed the visible and hidden guards.
With one flip of his body, he jumped over the enclosure wall.
He rushed towards the dense forest in the distance, his pace light. It was as if he had the ability to foretell the future, calmly moving through a minefield and bypassing the hidden guards outside, disappearing into the thick darkness of the forest.
Half an hour later...
He retraced his steps, returned and continued sleeping. No one noticed his departure.
...
The next day...
Before dawn, Su Yu sent out his confidants to find Ling and discuss forming an alliance. It was only at this moment that Su Yu realized how much he had failed, and how rough his life had been.
Ling had appeared for quite a while.
Over half a year.
He had never had any communication with Ling. At first, he thought Ling was not worth his time, but once Ling started to rise, he couldn’t put down his pride. He waited for Ling to come and worship him, but Ling completely ignored him, and just carried on with his own business.
Now, with Ling taking flight and becoming a game-changer, Su Yu was the one who had to go and seek cooperation. It was indeed fate making fools of them, the world changes unpredictably. He liked the saying "fate makes fools of people" very much. His grandfather was Chinese, so he had some understanding of Chinese culture and could speak some awkward Chinese.
Su Yu finished breakfast.
Standing in the study...
Looking at the brilliant glow of dawn outside the window, Su Yu felt a sense of relief, devoid of previous worries.
"Ding ding ding..."
The telephone on his desk rang. Although he didn’t have a cordless phone, these old-fashioned corded telephones were very common. These were typically used for short-range communication, while satellite phones were the essential means of communication.
Picking up the phone...
Su Yu asked calmly, "What’s the matter?"
A voice full of urgency came through the telephone, "Chief Su Yu, we found two unconscious people during our patrol on the front mountain. There were long-range weapons next to them. I think they might have been planning to assassinate you, but for some reason, they were unconscious on the spot."
"What? Whose people are they?" Su Yu’s tone turned cold."
"By their appearance, they seem to be from Yangon," the other side said. This was Su Yu’s personal guard captain. He was almost scared out of his wits when he found the two men. When he saw their faces, he immediately identified them as Yangon’s people.
"... Did you find anything else?" Su Yu asked after a pause.
"I... found a note in someone’s pocket. It reads, ’A mere lift of a hand, no thanks necessary," replied the head of the guards.
"A mere lift of a hand, no thanks necessary," Su Yu murmured the phrase again under his breath.
The assassin was from Yangon, armed with a gun, suddenly dead. A note reading "A mere lift of a hand" appeared. Su Yu, not being a fool, immediately understood what that meant; it must have been the doing of Ling.
The thought of someone lurking around his home, waiting to kill him, riled Su Yu to no end. His wrath was not only directed towards Yangon, but also towards Ling. Simple. Both parties must’ve set hidden traps on his side.
If anything went wrong or didn’t align with both parties’ interests, he could very well end up a goner, meet his maker in Yellow Springs, reduced to a mere dish on the table, livestock in a breeding farm, to be killed at will without mercy.
At this thought-
While Su Yu was seething, he was also struck by a wave of sorrow.
He never thought he’d turn out to be just as his wife had suggested, not important at all, but merely a pawn in games played by both sides. One wrong move, and he could end up completely destroyed. This conclusion was something that Su Yu found hard to swallow.
"Enforce a larger search area. Stay on guard. Conduct a thorough internal investigation to see who went out last night, and wake them up. Interrogate them thoroughly. Be cautious; these people are professionals," Su Yu could only give such orders.
"Yes, sir."
Around ten minutes later-
they discovered another two unconscious individuals on a different mountain. Although there was no note this time, even a fool would know they were both part of the same plot. Upon hearing the news, Su Yu sat down on the sofa, drained.
In the end, he resolved to collaborate with Ling, staying neutral for now. Compared to others, at least Ling had taken action this time. Yangon, on the other hand, had played an unglamorous role. The fact that Yangon had so brazenly attempted to snuff him out simply added to Su Yu’s already seething rage.
Damn it. 𝖓𝔬𝔳𝖕𝖚𝖇.𝖈𝔬𝔪
They consistently resorted to the lowest means, devoid of mercy or grace. It would have been forgivable, had it been Ling; after all, Ling was just a small player in the grand scheme of things, but Yangon? Not so much. Knowing they played by these rules led Su Yu to suspect that they were even more insignificant than he’d originally believed. To be in league with the likes of them, he felt like he was joking with his life.
...
At dawn.
The sun rose earlier in Shanghai compared to Myanmar.
After a night of cultivation, Tang Qing looked at his slightly improved physical state and couldn’t believe the progress. Compared to his own efforts, progress seemed to come more rapidly when completing tasks.
Heading back to the villa-
Tang Qing didn’t seek out Lin Jiaxue for morning drills. Instead, he arranged for his car to pick up Li Kai and Wang Yan. Their whole gang who had luckily tested into becoming part of the Shanghai scene was their group of four. Over the past two days, Li Kai had incessantly nagged about wanting to try some delicious food over the phone.
As for Wang Yan-
In recent times, contact between them had signficantly dwindled. Knowing that he now lived with Lin Jiaxue, Wang Yan was probably afraid of causing any misunderstanding. She’d merely sent a text yesterday afternoon to fix their meeting place-
Tang Qing didn’t go to pick her up either.
Standing on the rooftop terrace of the villa while looking at the tranquil villa area covered in faint mist, Tang Qing stood with his hands behind his back. He was slightly worried. What if Lin Jiaxue noticed something when Wang Yan arrived?
He was just a mortal.
Although his strength was beyond human standards, he was still a mortal.
As a mortal, he was fraught with mortal worries, desires, and concerns. If it weren’t for the previous life’s memories with Wang Yan, only having Lin Jiaxue in this life would be enough for him. Nevertheless, he couldn’t erase those memories; they were a part of his life.
For ten years-
their feelings for each other had been intertwined for a decade since Lin Jiaxue’s car accident.
Such a lengthy time. People only have a few decades in their lives. Asking him to completely give up and see Wang Yan in someone else’s arms- He wasn’t sure if it was due to unwillingness or some other reason, but he just felt upset.
Selfish.
He was selfish. For material possessions, he could care less because he had an abundance.
Nevertheless, he couldn’t simply forsake matters of the heart, or act like those ten years never happened. There were always regrets, lurking at the bottom of his heart. Thinking about this, Tang Qing chuckled bitterly. Was he just making excuses for himself?
HaHa.
Oh well.
Let it be as it was before. Just remain friends. Tang Qing couldn’t initiate a break; he couldn’t be so blunt. However, if Wang Yan decided to let go first, then he could convince himself too.
"Tangtang, what are you doing here?" Lin Jiaxue’s voice sounded from behind him.
Turning around, Tang Qing noticed that Lin Jiaxue had just washed her hair. Her hair hung down to her back and a few strands fluttered and landed on her face with the breeze. Her casual, lazy and homely demeanour was extraordinarily charming.
Tang Qing couldn’t resist.
He rushed forward and scooped up Lin Jiaxue, heading towards the bedroom amidst her shrieks.
They still had a while before Li Kai and the rest would arrive, giving them plenty of time to fool around.
One hour later.
Tang Qing and Lin Jiaxue were having breakfast.
The blush on Lin Jiaxue’s face hadn’t faded away yet. She concentrated on her meal without speaking much, looking very much like an old married couple. However, this was normal. He and Lin Jiaxue had grown up together, and there weren’t many secrets between them.
Lin Jiaxue was introverted, preferring to keep her feelings to herself.
But this was enough for Tang Qing.
His daily thoughts were filled with the company, Asia Dollar, the Black Prison, the future, and so on. He was very busy. If there was a chattering woman next to him, he would probably go crazy.
