Chapter 40: Assassins

After spending minutes explaining the meaning of "scam" to Kaidros, Drake began to miss some fun things on Earth, like phones, television, movies—all these were his companions in times of boredom, unlike here, where it’s just you and cultivation.

But it had its own fun part—the ability to battle and move mountains, the fantasy world that most novel readers want to escape into.

As they walked, they didn’t see anything worth their interest in the market stalls and weren’t in a rush to go back, so they continued checking some other stuff that they weren’t able to check during their last visit.

As they were walking, Drake suddenly smiled. "Let’s move to the alley side," he told Kaidros, who nodded toward him.

They moved toward a less crowded area. As they walked into an alley—a narrow space between buildings just enough to contain two people’s movement—

As soon as they got to this alley, Drake and Kaidros stopped, and Kaidros smiled. "You guys can come out now."

After Kaidros said this, there was silence in the alley before five to six people came out of the shadows, surrounding Drake and Kaidros.

"I never thought a mortal was this observant," one of them said. It turned out that they were all males, looking like trained assassins as they surrounded them.

Their features were concealed, making their figures unrecognizable. But their expressions were filled with killing intent, looking at both of them like prey.

Honestly, this scene made Drake amused, looking at all of them with a smile, even as a chuckle escaped Kaidros’s lips.

"Why are you laughing?" one of them roared when they saw Kaidros chuckling.

"Oh, my bad," Kaidros said, looking at the six of them.

Then suddenly, Drake thought of something and told Kaidros to leave things to him. Immediately, Kaidros nodded as he took a step backward, like a servant before a master.

When these people saw Kaidros moving, they were surprised by why he did so.

"Well, well, well..." This childish voice brought their attention toward Drake’s body, and they grew even more confused. From Kaidros’s movement, it seemed he was like a servant to this small child.

"Assassins, right?" Drake smiled. "And I’m sure you were sent by that Young Master Leo."

When Drake said this, he could hear the gasp of surprise from the assassins, which made him smile.

Drake shook his head. It wasn’t that he was at fault here, but because of pride, background, influence—all these rich characters don’t want to be embarrassed in public.

"Well, I have no qualms about you trying to assassinate me, but you guys made a fatal mistake," Drake grinned. As he took a step forward, the assassins instinctively stepped back when their bodies picked up danger from Drake.

When they heard the word "mistake," they were shocked about what they had done.

"You know what your mistake is? It’s trying to assassinate people," Drake said, as his golden eyes turned draconic. They didn’t know why, but they felt chills running down their spines when they heard this.

They tried moving their bodies, but they felt no connection to them. As they tried looking around, they saw as if they were in the sky, and below them, they saw headless bodies with blood gushing out.

Seven heads were flying in the sky—it was a horror scene to witness.

The assassins were confused by why there were headless bodies, before they realized that it was their bodies they were seeing.

Fear and terror took hold of their brains as shock and regret filled them.

"Remember this: never try to assassinate a dragon without having powerful strength." This was the last thing they heard before everything turned dark.

When they heard this, they now knew who they were trying to assassinate.

If one looked closely, one could see threads that spread toward the assassins’ necks. It was due to the fact that they were stained by blood, which made them exposed—and as for where they came from, it was from Kaidros.

If anyone knowledgeable had seen this, they would have been shocked by it.

Sword into Thread!

This is an innate skill of a swordsman, and this isn’t the kind of skill that can be gained just anyhow. It requires a swordsman to be in sync with their sword, to have the heart of the sword, and to be able to use the sword like it’s a part of their body.

But that wasn’t all about this innate skill—it had ranks depending on the thread it transformed into. The thinner, the better.

As for Kaidros’s own, there was only one word for it:

"PERFECT"

So thin and sharp—this is able to pierce through all things. There’s nothing it can’t cut.

THUD!

The seventh body fell from above the roof. It turned out there was one more assassin in the scene, but before Drake and Kaidros, it was like child’s play.

Drake watched this gruesome scene before he suddenly felt nauseous. This was the first time a human was killed like this before his eyes.

He took a deep breath before he stretched his hand. A dark vortex appeared, connected to his Void Devouring Stomach, absorbing the corpses and blood, leaving no form of evidence—not even a stain of blood.

As everything was dealt with, Drake then remembered something.

He stretched his hand again. The dark vortex appeared, but this time it didn’t absorb anything—it spouted out the three rabbits.

Immediately, the three rabbits appeared back in the real world. They looked at Drake with grievance as they began to express the loneliness and chilly aura there, and questioned why Drake didn’t bring them back sooner.

"I’m sorry," Drake patted them as he calmed them down.

"You did a good job," Drake said to Kaidros, who withdrew the sword threads.

"Thanks a lot, Master," Kaidros said with respect and reverence.

"Let’s continue our tour." They all left the alley as they continued moving around the Bestial Town.
