Folding his hands, Drusus arched an eyebrow. "How do you know him by the way? He asked again. He could tell that there was a story there and his mouth was itching to gossip.
Jennie changed position to get a better look at Alton. "As a matter of the fact we do, he was Maureen's boyfriend or fling almost turned fiance....I think?" Her quizzical gaze shifted to Maureen.
The relationship between her and Alton had been undefined. Given the way they had iced him out after she cut him off, it was likely that the relationship was safely buried under a big pile of garbage.
"W-we broke up or something like that." A wet, shaky laugh accompanied her words.
"Who said?" Alton spoke as he took the last step that closed the gap between him and Maureen. Without pause he embraced her and apologized for keeping the secret about being a former special forces soldier from her.
Rekha and Phoebe were still not comfortable. This did not eliminate the fact that he had been obsessed with his dead wife in an uncomfortable way or that he was presumptuous.
Maureen had broken off the relationship. Why was he making it seem as if she had not done so and they were still together. Also why was he hugging her as he pleased?
Phoebe couldn't help wondering if she was simply too biased or creating monsters out of her imagination. Her own relationship with David could be considered a red flag to some people if she sat them down and told them all about their past life.
She reminded herself that the reading on Alton said he was a good man. Whatever doubts she had about him, that fact did not change.
"It doesn't mean that good men don't have faults." The Saxon spirit reminded her.
She concurred on that. David was a good man and yet their marriage in their past life had been a tragedy. When she was reborn, she hated him. Now, they were happy and expecting a baby together.
"You were hiding quite the secret from me Maureen." Alton laughed.
"I think that it is only fair since you were keeping a secret of your own." Grandma Mayfair told Mr. Alton. Now that all the misunderstandings had been cleared in her books, she was team Alton once again.
Amon let out a little chuckle, his eyes offering his sympathy towards Alton. "Are you sure that you want a woman like Maureen as your life partner Alton? She is one of the best fighters that we have here, but she is difficult to please, her duties will always come first, and her life is always at a risk. In good faith, I advise that you think again." His words were more of a warning.
Grandma Mayfair shot Amon a warning. If he said one more word, she would do to him what hunters did to monsters.
"Of course, I am sure." Alton declared boldly. "As a matter of fact, if she will have me, I would like to marry her as soon as possible." He placed the marriage proposal on the table once again. "What do you say Maureen? We might not make it out alive in the supernatural war. Have mercy on me and make an honest man of me."
General Drusus quickly pulled out his phone to capture the moment and spread it out to others.
Grandma Mayfair wanted to do the same but her phone was still without a signal, so she bounced on her feet, urging Maureen to accept the proposal. "Go on then, put him out of his misery and mine."
Phoebe had never wanted to stuff a sock in her grandmother's mouth so badly. Had she learned nothing? Why was she still all up in Maureen's business?
Even Edward was not too pleased. His sister was being cornered by Alton with his public proposal. Was he hoping that peer pressure would make her say yes? He was ready to intervene when Maureen moved.
She pushed him away and took a step back. "Uhm....we will see, let us deal with these demon motherfuckers first and then we will talk about this issue." Maureen politely turned him down, not that she had anything against him but what was the point of getting married when the world was ending?
Alton winced at her language, but he did not seem offended at all by her refusal. In fact, his face was etched with excitement. "Dinner later then?" He asked smoothly. n𝚘𝚟𝚙u𝚋.co𝚖
Nodding, a fond smile formed on Maureen's lips. "Sure."
Alton excused himself and returned to training. He had a spring in his step as he walked. He was like a dying man that had been brought back to life.
Rekha's laughter took the form of a hum. "I smell love in the air." She playfully nudged Maureen.
"Shut it!" Maureen replied, a tiny smile played on her lips.
They kept to the side and continued to watch the students train, especially those sparring with the guardians. Rufus and Drusus were like commanders inspecting the troops and shouting instructions. They made an endeavor to explain and answer all questions asked.
They passed by a class of young students that were learning about infusing their bodies with enchanted armors and protective spells. Those young hunters were about to be sent off hunting for their very first hunts. Older guardians including Old man Lee were monitoring them and would be accompanying them on the hunt.
They were fighting against technologically simulated vampiric demons that they would soon face.
"So cool! Can I try?" Andre requested the patriarch who allowed it.
They watched Andre fight with a shape shifting demon that had taken on the appearance of a beautiful woman. His mind had been read, and his easiest weakness had been found.
"The Scenarios these students face here are designed to test for group coordination and they are ranked from one to five. The groups that reach level five are good enough to fight in the real world. In this arena we also test for reflexes, speed plus combat readiness." Drusus joined them and he shared what the young hunters were doing.
There were so many activities going on at the academy that they had to take some parts of the trip on their own. Star and the Saxon spirit became the new tour guides.
Phoebe was interested in the weapon making workshops where they were making magic infused bombs and elixirs.
In another class, strategies of war were being discussed. Real time magic maps were being studied and professors along with students and hunters were predicting enemy movements.
They visited a class being taught on dark magic and counter measures especially how to reverse and resist curses, magical diseases and the like. When Rufus joined them again, they were paying attention in an engineering class where they were learning to create enchanted domes, magical traps, talismans and protection wards.
"There is also an ongoing literature and lost languages class where the students are learning tongues of various supernatural creatures plus the old magic itself." Rufus told them.
Next the old patriarch teleported them to another combat arena, where an open duel between hunters was ongoing. "Here we encourage academy wide competitions either between groups or individuals. This is a brawl, the last man standing wins." He informed them.
"Oh no! One just collapsed." Grandma Mayfair pointed at a tall man that was bleeding on the ground.
