Chapter 105: Chapter 105: The Gossip of Yu Shiya

...

True to Tong Yao’s warning, once Si Xiaohui returned to the residential compound, she sealed her lips. She didn’t dare mention to Si Chen about Aqiang causing troubles. After gobbling up her dinner, she was promptly sent off to the rented room by Si Chen.

Si Chen slept in the living room while Si Xiaohui slumbered in the western bedroom. Finally having a room for herself thrilled her to the point of insomnia, and it was not until past eleven at night that she fell asleep.

With both of the Si siblings gone, Tong Yao was like an unbridled wild horse, rolling about joyously on her bed. She had the whole of this bed to herself finally, she could tumble as she wished and sleep on whichever side she fancied. Absolutely nobody had control over her anymore.

"Big news, big news, do you want to hear?" proclaimed Mosquito Four, buzzing around Tong Yao as if it had stumbled upon a new undisturbed land.

"What big news?" Rolling lazily and comfortably over, Tong Yao lay flat on her bed, eager to read up on the latest gossip. Nothing recently piqued her interest both at the residential compound or inside the hospital. But seeing the frenzied excitement of Mosquito Four, she started to get a little bit intrigued herself.

"Si Jun is courting Yu Shiya, he bought breakfast for her this morning and gifted her a shawl. Lately, Yu Zhengxiong’s attitude towards Si Jun has been quite good, he even extended an invitation for Si Jun to come to his house for a meal. It seems he is quite content with Si Jun."

Tong Yao blinked as she pondered over the fact that Si Jun, to her surprise, had given Shiya a shawl during such a hot day.

"What is Yu Shiya’s attitude towards Si Jun?"

Truthfully speaking, considering appearances alone, Si Jun and Yu Shiya did form quite a pair. They seemed to complement each other fairly well. However, with Shiya still not over Si Chen, it might take a while before she gets used to Si Jun. If they were to make it or not, it all comes down to whether Si Jun can persist or not.

"I think she isn’t into Si Jun. Even though she accepted his gift, she always seems icy cold towards him, making faces as if someone owes her millions. That sulky expression of hers is so irritating that I don’t even feel like looking at her. I really wonder what Si Jun sees in someone like her. With attributes like his, finding someone like you shouldn’t be a problem at all!"

Despite being just a mosquito, Mosquito Four was not in the least bit lacking in gossiping skills compared to humans. For them, besides bloodsucking and reproduction, the greatest joy in life lied in eavesdropping. They discovered the gossips of the human world.

Sometimes they envied the longevity of human beings, yet felt that their lives were much complicated. Humans always had a knack for complicating simple matters. Just like earning oneself a livelihood, merely having enough money to wear warm clothes and eat to one’s heart content should suffice. However, with their constant need to compete, humans not only need clothes for warmth but desire they be good-looking and luxurious.

If it was up to Mosquito Four, it would not squander any money and exchange all of it for food stock. After all, food was essential to survive.

Listening to Mosquito Four’s ceaseless chatter, just like an old village lady’s nagging, Tong Yao rolled her eyes. As she was about to say something, she was interrupted by Baodan’s crying from the hallway. His bawling was so loud as if someone was slaughtering a pig; it was utterly jarring.

"What’s wrong with Baodan? Why’s he crying in the middle of the night?"

Chen Yanmei, considering her character, shouldn’t have the heart to let Baodan cry till such an extent.

"It’s probably because he’s in pain. Baodan got stung by a wasp on the tree at the entrance of the residential compound. His face swelled up like a steamed bun. Chen Yanmei threw a tantrum and wanted to dismantle the wasp’s nest but ended up getting stung herself."

Tong Yao: There happened to be an incident like this?

She blinked her eyes, a quick flicker in her vision made her all of a sudden super interested in wasps.

"Where is the wasp nest?"

"It’s on the large tree outside the residential compound. That wasp nest is quite large, holding at least a few hundreds of wasps. You better not go near it. Wasps have a very potent venom. Baodan and Chen Yanmei’s faces both swelled up like pig heads. If you get stung, your face wouldn’t fare any better. Wasps stinging humans, echo no taste."

After thinking for a bit, Tong Yao enquired, "Can you communicate with them?"

"They are so snooty that they ignore us. They think they are of a higher species than us."

Actually, among winged creatures, mosquitoes are the most despised species. Except for flies, no other winged creature paid attention to them.

Tong Yao: There are distinctions among species too in the animal kingdom?

Initially, she was thinking of letting Mosquito Four make an appearance to help her communicate with the wasps. But that doesn’t seem possible now considering the situation. Once she gets the time, she’ll have to deal with it personally!

If she could communicate with wasps, life would be easier in encountering Aqiang and other such scumbags. At least she’d have some secret weapon and wouldn’t be as passive. Although policemen can protect her, she can’t always resort to calling them with smallest of problems, right?

If she makes a couple more trips to the police station, they’d certainly get tired of seeing her face.

Besides, communication these days isn’t convenient enough.

If officials from Kyoto come over, and if Si Chen performs well, he surely would attract their attention. His transfer to Kyoto would be merely a matter of time. She can’t really help him in his career; the least she could do is not to create any trouble for him.

While engulfed in her thoughts, Tong Yao unknowingly fell asleep. She woke up just as dawn was breaking. Sluggishly, she got out of bed to go to the bathroom. However, the moment she opened the door, she was startled by the silhouette of a man standing at her doorstep.

"Don’t be scared, it’s me." Afraid that she might trip and fall, Si Chen extended his hand around Tong Yao’s waist for support. After spending the night in the rented room, he had trouble sleeping as he was worried if Tong Yao might have a terrible stomachache or feared to go to the bathroom alone in the night. Thus, by the break of dawn, he returned under the dusky sky.

Recognizing Si Chen’s voice, Tong Yao calmed her nerves and sobered up a bit. Lifting her head, she queried, "why did you come back so early? Did you just stand outside my door without knocking? How long have you been here?"

Si Chen’s hair was slightly damp with dew all over, indicating he’d been back for quite some time. This man was really naive as he didn’t even knock after returning. Was he trying not to disturb her?

Tong Yao suddenly felt a warm fluffy sensation in her heart, like a ball of cotton was stuffed into her chest.

In her past life, she was an orphan with nobody to care or love her. Though she appeared optimistic and cheerful on the outside, she would often feel dejected seeing everyone around her having family members caring and accompanying them.

The loneliness and desolation she felt when she realised, among the multitude of beacons of light from the homes, not a single one belonged to her, cannot be understood without personal experience.

"I just came back." Si Chen diverted his gaze, appearing somewhat uncomfortable, "You first go to the bathroom, I will freshen up and go buy breakfast."

"Alright then." The second day of menstruation was the peak of bodily waste discharge. After sleeping a full night, changing her sanitary pad now indeed was a pressing matter.

With a brisk walk, Tong Yao descended the stairs and headed to the toilet. Upon returning after disburdening herself, she felt much more comfortable. At that time, Si Chen had already gone to buy breakfast. She changed into a fresh set of clothes and was done with her morning wash by the time he returned. He had bought boiled eggs and fried dough sticks, that she loved, and meat buns Si Xiaohui enjoyed for breakfast.

While peeling off the eggshell during the downtime, overcoming her curiosity, Tong Yao blurted, "I’ve heard Dr. Si is planning on pursuing Dr. Yu, even gifted her a shawl."

Si Chen raised his eyebrow, "Did Mrs. Li tell you this?"

Tong Yao vaguely mumbled a confirmation, successfully deflecting the topic and further probed, "Has Dean Yu purposefully made things difficult for you because of that incident?"

Earlier, Yu Zhengxiong wanted Si Chen as his son-in-law so he must have treated him quite well. Even though things turned a bit sour at the banquet, she wondered if Yu Zhengxiong would be petty enough to create a hostile environment for Si Chen.
