Chapter 191: Chapter 191: The Arrival of Earthquake 1
"You must be bewitched."
Upon hearing the word ’hexed’, Yu Zhengxiong’s face turned purple with anger. He instantly thought of Tong Yao, the instigator of all this, and turned his chilling gaze towards her, his eyes filled with disgust.
In a condemning tone, he said, "Ever since you moved into the residential area, troubles have been endless. I’ve been tolerant out of consideration for Si Chen, who shows great potential. But now, you’ve become increasingly unbridled, daring to make a mockery of the hospital’s patients. First thing tomorrow morning, you will leave the residential area. You’re not welcome here."
As the Dean, Yu Zhengxiong always put the patients first. Tong Yao’s behavior crossed his bottom line, especially when he saw her indifferent, nonchalant attitude, which infuriated him even more.
What a pity for Si Chen, a person with such great potential, to have such a wife.
Tong Yao was surprised by Dai Liwen’s courage. Though the quietly intelligent Dai Liwen, with his glasses on, had warned her earlier to yield to Yu Zhengxiong, he had shown firmness himself this time.
But before she could finish her thought, she heard Yu Zhengxiong ordering her to leave. Tong Yao sneered coldly, her gaze piercing through him as if she saw everything. "Dean Yu, since things have come to this, you don’t need to push me away. Whether there is an earthquake tonight or not, I will move out of the residential area tomorrow. Regardless of how good the residential area is, I won’t stay here against your wishes."
She was financially secure and finding a rental place near the hospital was not a problem. But being expelled was something Tong Yao had not anticipated. Whether Yu Zhengxiong kicked her out out of anger or deliberately exaggerated the issue for his own selfish agenda, he was the clear one about it.
Yu Zhengxiong was taken aback by Tong Yao’s stubbornness, especially her all-knowing gaze, which made him feel somewhat ashamed.
For the first time in his life, he saw such a gaze in a young woman of only twenty years old. It was as if he was not facing a young girl, but an old, calculating fox who had experienced many years of business life.
The confidence and determination she exhibited even had an arrogant edge.
Yu Zhengxiong’s dark face relaxed slightly, and he snorted coldly. Just as he was about to ask everyone to leave, he suddenly stumbled and fell to the ground. He didn’t even know who he had landed on, but he wasn’t in pain. Before he could understand what had happened, he heard everyone’s screams.
"Ah... it’s an earthquake, earthquake..."
"Ah... earthquake, everybody run, stay away from the buildings..."
At that moment, it felt as though a giant monster was shaking the ground beneath them, causing it to tremble violently as if it were going to split open. It was impossible for anyone to stand steadily, and everyone panicked and fell to the ground.
In the face of natural disasters, humans were as insignificant as ants.
Many nearby buildings collapsed, and falling tiles almost hit several people. The more timid individuals were so scared they were screaming for their parents.
Shocked by the deafening sounds of collapsing buildings and people’s screams, even Tong Yao, who had been prepared for an earthquake, was terrified.
After about fifty seconds, the earth stopped shaking, but everyone stayed on the ground, too afraid to move. The whole of Li City was thrown into chaos. It was only when Dai Liwen stood up and asked everyone about their conditions that people gradually started to get up.
"It’s horrifying. There really was an earthquake. Thank God, we came out early."
"So scary, it really was an earthquake..."
"Mom, where are you..."
Only after coming out of their shock did everyone begin to look for their loved ones. The earthquake was not extremely big, but also not small. It had disturbed the whole of Li City.
"Thank God we got out. The Inpatient Department has collapsed."
Someone shouted, and everyone instinctively looked towards the hospital building. The Inpatient Department, which had been intact before, had collapsed.
The hospital building had been renovated a few years ago, but the Inpatient Department was the only one that hadn’t been refurbished yet. Who would have expected it to collapse in the earthquake? The condition of the elderly, weak, sick, and disabled people who were living there could only be imagined now as they most likely wouldn’t have had enough time to escape.
Everyone present broke out in a cold sweat at the sight of the collapsed hospital building.
It was indeed fortunate that everyone had left the building earlier; otherwise, the situation could have been disastrous.
Dai Liwen, without any delay, began to check on the patients out of professional instinct. Everyone was caught off guard by the earthquake, and some fracture patients might have suffered secondary injuries, the serious of which required rebinding and resetting.
However, one thing was clear to him: he had made the right decision. After working as a doctor in the hospital for many years, this was the first time he had been so firm. Even if he didn’t receive any commendation, the Dean would have to apologize to him.
Yu Zhengxiong, assisted by the doctor on duty, managed to get up, trembling. Although he didn’t get hurt when he fell, the sudden earthquake had stunned him.
He never expected that there would actually be an earthquake. If everyone had listened to him and returned to the Inpatient Department, they would all have been trapped under the collapsed building.
Just moments ago, he was unyieldingly condemning Tong Yao and Dai Liwen, but never imagined that he would be humiliated so quickly. Although he felt ashamed, he, having been through many significant events, didn’t have time to dwell on it. He started checking on the patients right away.
As the noise around her subsided, Tong Yao finally snapped out of her shock. To be honest, despite her strong belief in Xiaohei’s words of an impending earthquake, when the earthquake actually happened, she was still shocked.
Animals’ perception of nature was astonishingly sensitive. It startled her for a whole year.
Previously, she thought understanding animal language was not very useful but now she realized what an amazing superpower she had.
Tong Yao didn’t know much about medical care, and there was no one in need of her help at the moment. She was about to return to the residential area when she saw a group of doctors and nurses running over from there.
She sensed that among the incoming crowd, there was someone watching her. But before she could identify who it was, they had all joined in the rescue work.
With so many people present, Tong Yao was certainly not needed.
Tong Yao, like a celestial being descended from the sky who saved mankind, was smooth and relaxed even while leaving. She decided to pack her things tonight and move out tomorrow.
If Si Chen wasn’t working here, she would not have wanted to stay here at all.
A crowd was standing outside the residential area, all discussing the earthquake incident. Baodan’s crying sound was the loudest, her voice had even started to break.
Although the earthquake was over, no one knew if there would be aftershocks. Those who didn’t believe in the earthquake earlier were now petrified, sweating profusely, yet no one dared enter the buildings.
