Chapter 199: Chapter 199: Rescue 4
Due to the shortage of manpower, those who could still move began to continue the rescue efforts after eating something. Some of the injured headed towards the disaster relief base. Yu Shiya and others planned to gather their belongings to move to the disaster relief base. When Zhou Shi’an and others heard that someone had found activity under the rubble, indicating that someone might be trapped, they all rushed to help.
When Tong Yao just came out of the tent after changing a three-month-old baby’s diaper, she saw a big yellow dog running towards her, barking crazily at her. Before Tong Yao had time to react, a man with an injured leg protected her.
"Stay away from it, this dog has gone mad. Since the earthquake yesterday, it has been barking at everyone, even biting someone’s leg. It was driven away but it came back."
The man spoke, suddenly bending over to pick up a stone to smash the dog. Tong Yao quickly stopped him. Others did not understand why the dog was barking and thought it had gone mad. But Tong Yao understood. Its owner was buried under the house, and it was likely trying to draw attention by biting people.
Thinking of this, Tong Yao asked, "Its owner must be buried. Can you walk on that leg of yours? If you can, let’s go and check it out!"
"Huh?"
The man was startled and just about to ask Tong Yao how she knew when he saw that Tong Yao had already picked up a bottle of water and was following the big yellow dog. He didn’t have time to ask more questions and quickly followed.
No sooner had the two set off than Gu Hongwei arrived. After searching several tents and not finding Tong Yao, he thought of asking Yu Shiya and her friends, who knew Tong Yao. As he approached the entrance of the tent, he happened to meet Qian Niannian coming out. He asked her.
"Have you guys seen Tong Yao?"
"Is Tong Yao missing?" Qian Niannian scoffed and said irritably, "Do you need to look for her? I bet she’s heard that Dr. Si is at the disaster relief base and ran over there first."
Gu Hongwei frowned slightly and at this moment, Zhou Shi’an walked over, asking with a serious expression, "Did you find Tong Yao?"
Seeing how many men were concerned about Tong Yao, Qian Niannian disdainfully sneered, "You guys stop looking, she’s at the disaster relief base looking for her man. The newlyweds haven’t seen each other for almost half a month, they must be going crazy. Knowing where he is, she must have bolted over there, right? And you guys are still searching here. Maybe they’re already warmly hugging each other."
Gu Hongwei frowned, feeling very uncomfortable hearing the mockery in Qian Niannian’s words.
Zhou Shi’an beside him also frowned, slightly angry, "So she went to look for her husband. I was worried that something had happened."
After all, he was the one who had brought her. As a pretty young girl in an unfamiliar place, she was in danger. If something happened to her, he wouldn’t be able to live with himself.
Now that she went to find her husband, he could put his mind at ease. However, it was a bit capricious of her to leave without telling anyone since they had all come together.
"Boss, someone just said that the situation in Shuitang Town doesn’t look good. A lot of people live halfway up the mountain there. Currently, most of the rescue efforts are focused on the towns, and the villagers have been conducting their own rescues. Should we go over now?" Niu Gang walked over with a man who was covered in dust and limping, who had come from Shuitang Town looking for aid.
Their village was halfway up a mountain next to Shuitang Town and the earthquake had caused a landslide. Many villagers didn’t have time to run and got directly buried underneath. Thirty-six hours had already passed; the situation was bleak.
"Let’s go, we’ll set off now."
Without any hesitation, Zhou Shi’an immediately gathered the people he brought and went to Shuitang Town for the rescue.
Gu Hongwei followed Zhou Shi’an, worry etched on his brow as he looked around.

Tong Yao followed the big yellow dog for about fifteen minutes. The dog periodically turned to check whether she was keeping up. When they arrived at a collapsed house, the dog suddenly stopped, barking at the ruins and digging its front paws in. The dog’s paws were bloody due to the scratching. Seeing this, the man immediately understood.
"There are people buried under here."
Of course, Tong Yao knew there were people buried underneath. She and the man began to dig in the direction the dog was scratching, moving collapsed panels and beams. Both were sweating heavily from the effort. Whenever they paused to rest, the dog would bark at them fiercely as if supervising their work.
The man cursed the dog for acting like a landlord’s watchdog.
Thanks to Tong Yao and the man’s relentless efforts, they finally rescued a family of three from the rubble. The family’s injuries were not severe, but they were very weak. Tong Yao gave them the water she had brought. After the family had rested for a while, they kept bowing to Tong Yao and the man in gratitude and recounted how they had ended up trapped under the bed.
When the earthquake struck, they had tried to run out, but the earthquake had caused the walls to deform, making it impossible to open the door. They had taken shelter under the bed. Fortunately, it was a sturdy metal-frame bed that held up the collapsing building. Still, they were trapped by the massive amount of bricks and beams that had fallen on the bed and were unable to get out. At first, they were able to call for help, but as time passed and they grew thirsty, their throats became raw, and they could no longer call out.
Tears welled up in the father’s eyes as he finished his story, "I thought our family was done for. I didn’t expect a fairy to come save us with Marshal Tianpeng."
The man immediately beamed when he heard himself being compared to Marshal Tianpeng; however, his joy was short-lived as a thought dawned on him.
Wasn’t Marshal Tianpeng also known as Pigsy?
He frowned, "I saved you and this is how you repay me? By bad-mouthing me?"
The mother quickly said, "I’m sorry, my husband didn’t mean any harm. He just isn’t good with words, don’t take it personally."
The father stood awkwardly to one side, unsure of how to explain himself.
The man weren’t really going to hold a grudge, so he left it at that upon hearing the mother’s apology.
Listening to their conversation, Tong Yao couldn’t help but smile, "If you head south for about two kilometers, you’ll find the disaster relief base. There’s food and tents there. You should hurry and get your child there!"
After briefly instructing them, she returned to the makeshift tent area. She checked several tents but couldn’t find anyone, Gu Hongwei and his group were nowhere in sight. Before Tong Yao could figure out what had happened, a woman in her fifties came up to her and asked.
"Why are you still here, young lady? The people you came with have all left." 𝒏𝙤𝙫𝒑𝙪𝙗.𝙘𝒐𝙢
Tong Yao had been there for more than a day, and everyone knew she had come to help with the rescue team.
This skinny girl worked diligently and efficiently without mentioning being tired. The older women had a good impression of Tong Yao.
It was a shame that it was such a special time. If they had met in normal times, she would definitely have found a good match for her.
