Chapter 219: Chapter 219: Going to Kyoto
Tong Yao was so shocked by Si Chen’s revelation that she almost dropped her jaw. It took her a while to recover, "Dr. Dai likes men? Are you sure there isn’t a mistake?"
Thinking back on Dr. Dai’s usual behavior, he didn’t seem like someone who was gay. If it weren’t for Si Chen’s confession, she wouldn’t have believed it.
"Yes." Si Chen nodded, showing he was sure.
"How do you know he likes men?" Tong Yao looked Si Chen up and down, her eyes full of doubt. Was Dr. Dai attracted to Si Chen?
Si Chen had a handsome look, the clean-cut type, which might be more appealing to gay men.
Seeing the skepticism in Tong Yao’s eyes, Si Chen knew she was letting her imagination run wild again. He said somewhat helplessly, "Don’t overthink it. Doctor Dai just doesn’t like women, he doesn’t have any abnormal inclinations."
Tong Yao:... What is this supposed to mean?
Did that mean Doctor Dai’s crush didn’t work at the hospital?
As Tong Yao began to link together Dr. Dai’s past behaviors, Si Chen grabbed a box with one hand, and her with the other, and led her away for dinner.
Si Boyi was reluctant when he learned that Si Chen was going to Kyoto the day after tomorrow. He knew that being a doctor had always been busy. Once his brother moved to Kyoto, it would become even harder for the two brothers to see each other. However, he also understood that only by going to Kyoto could Si Chen have better career opportunities.
"Brother, just focus on your work in Kyoto. I will take care of the shop and mom here." Saying this, Si Boyi rubbed the back of his head, and said somewhat embarrassingly, "Brother, I don’t have much education, and probably won’t achieve much in the future. I’m counting on you to bring honor to our family. I can only help by taking care of the family."
As long as his elder brother succeeds, he, as the younger brother, will also be proud. Only then could they hold their heads up high in their village.
Ever since their father passed away, most people in the village have looked down on their family. Things only started to change when his older brother got into college. Si Boyi knew deeply that as long as his brother does well, they would gain more respect in the village. Therefore, regardless of where his brother goes, he would support him as long as Si Chen had the capability.
Si Chen nodded and said solemnly, "If your sister-in-law and I have the capacity, we’ll support the family in the future. You guys just focus on running the shop and taking care of the family."
"Brother, don’t worry, I will definitely take good care of the shop and house." Si Boyi guaranteed confidently.
Si Xiaohui, however, wasn’t pleased. She pouted and complained, "Big brother, you’re going to Kyoto, and my sister-in-law is also going to Kyoto. You both live in big cities while I’m stuck in this small town. It’s so unfair."
Si Xiaohui was perfectly content with working in Li City initially. However, when she heard that her brother and sister-in-law were moving to Kyoto, her heart fluttered, and she yearned to experience life in the big city too.
After all, why should her sister-in-law get to earn a lot of money without needing to work or care about anything?
Seeing Xiaohui’s dissatisfaction, Tong Yao, who was eating, looked up and responded, "If you want to go to Kyoto, that’s fine too. I’ll hire someone else for the store, but I won’t be responsible for helping you find a job and managing your daily life in Kyoto."
"..."
Si Xiaohui was silenced immediately. What would be the point of going to Kyoto without a job?
All she could do was reluctantly stay in Li City, though she was left with a sour taste in the mouth.
In the afternoon, Si Chen was free and went to the police station to handle Jia Qing’s issue. The next day, they went to pick up their marriage certificate, then visited Lin Fengying at her old house. Lin Fengying was extremely reluctant when she learned that Si Chen was going to work in Kyoto. She felt Si Chen was only going because of Tong Yao. Since learning about Si Chen’s decision, she had been in a gloomy mood and didn’t look particularly happy. Nevertheless, she didn’t voice any objections.
Days passed in twinkle of an eye. After sending Si Chen off to the train station, Tong Yao returned to the store to continue her work. She recruited a female staff named Zheng Xiaoshuang as she anticipated the workload could get a bit too much for her after her departure.
Zheng Xiaoshuang had a refreshing look and a gentle personality. She was a hard worker and Tong Yao took a liking to her. Si Xiaohui, however, was always unpleasant towards Zheng Xiaoshuang, often talking rudely to her because of her familial ties with Si Chen. Fortunately, Si Boyi had a decent worldview, and he would always reprimand Si Xiaohui whenever she acted rudely towards Xiaoshuang.
After interacting with Zheng Xiaoshuang for a few days, Si Xiaohui noticed that Zheng Xiaoshuang was hard-working and did not fight with her. Slowly, she accepted Zheng Xiaoshuang’s presence. The two of them behaved as if they were sisters. After Tong Yao left Li City, Zheng Xiaoshuang moved in with Si Xiaohui.
After sorting out the affairs in Li City, Tong Yao took her savings and set off to Kyoto. Si Chen had originally planned to come back to pick her up. However, Tong Yao didn’t feel it was necessary to make such a fuss. She booked her sleeping berth ticket to Kyoto in advance, and set off alone by train.
It had been over three months since she traveled through. This was the first time Tong Yao took the train. There were many people going to Kyoto, the station was packed, and its bustling crowds stretched as far as the eye could see. The noise from the vendors never ceased. Tong Yao, carrying her suitcase, calmly strolled through the crowd to the waiting room.
The noise around her didn’t stop until she boarded the train to Kyoto, which made the inside of her ear somewhat quiet.
In those days, most people who traveled long distances went by hard seat. People who could afford tickets for the sleeper coaches were usually well-off, if not particularly prestigious. Therefore, the environment in the sleeper coaches and hard seats were worlds apart.
Most of the people on the train were men. A refined and pretty girl like Tong Yao was quite striking on a train. Everyone who saw her couldn’t help but stare at her a few times longer. Tong Yao did not say a word on the way, and kept her face expressionless, projecting an icy sophistication.
The purpose was to avoid inviting bullies who regarded her as inexperienced to the train.
As the train rumbled on, Tong Yao’s heart was filled with excitement at the thought of seeing Si Chen soon. She couldn’t sleep and stayed awake until the evening when the train arrived in Kyoto. She felt a sense of homecoming as soon as she got off the station, a feeling probably imbued from the original host’s memories. The cells all over her body seemed to be expressing the joy and excitement of this return.
Tong Yao spotted Si Chen standing in the crowd instantly. The crowd was constantly moving around them, but only he stood firm, just like an evergreen tree, waiting there for her.
"Ahchen."
Tong Yao cried out excitedly and charged towards him.
Their embrace did not seem to be anything unusual in a big city. Nobody even stopped to have another look. Si Chen patted Tong Yao’s shoulder. Seeing her fluffy forehead slightly shaking against his chest, he felt it was like some kind of small animal.
"Are you tired? Did you eat anything on the way?"
Tong Yao shook her head, "No, I couldn’t get used to the packed meals on the train."
Si Chen took the luggage bag from her hand, "Let’s go eat first."
"Alright," replied Tong Yao, her eyes curved sweetly from the moment she caught sight of Si Chen, "Let’s go have Fried Sauce Noodles! It’s been a while since I last had it. I kind of miss it."
