Chapter 221: Chapter 221: Targeting Your Man
At such a youthful and vibrant age, being asked by his wife lying next to him if he had no feelings for her was a lethal question for any man.
Does he have feelings for her?
The answer was obviously ’yes’, and the feelings ran deep. It was as if he was about to be consumed by them. He couldn’t wait to devour Tong Yao completely, to communicate his inner feelings through his actions.
The reason why he had been behaving properly all this while and not done anything inappropriate to Tong Yao, was out of fear of her distaste. He wanted to give Tong Yao more time to accept him. Now that they had acquired their marriage certificate, legally recognized as husband and wife, some relationships happen naturally.
In the dark night, Si Chen’s eyes glowed like a beast, as if he could consume Tong Yao the very next moment. At this moment, YoYao finally grasped the intensity of Si Chen’s gaze. She instantly tensed up, ready to speak, but was shrouded by a shadow before she could.
The next moment, her lips felt a soft touch, as cool as jelly. Everything that happened next felt natural. She felt like a small ship lost at sea, drowsily falling asleep in Si Chen’s arms until she was exhausted.
When she woke up the next day, it was past seven in the morning. Si Chen had gone to work. On the dining table in the living room, he had left her some lean meat porridge.
Tong Yao stretched lazily, feeling as if her bones were about to fall apart. Thinking about how she had begged for mercy last night, she blushed. She had always doubted whether Si Chen had feelings for her until last night when she realized why he had never touched her before.
Apparently, he knew her too well. He was afraid of losing control and affecting her rest, so that she wouldn’t be energetic when meeting Professor Qu the next day.
Luckily, the two of them had finally consummated their marriage. Tong Yao grinned as she served herself a bowl of porridge. Suddenly, a sweet voice came from outside.
"Dr. Si, are you home?"
Someone was looking for Si Chen?
Tong Yao eyed the bowl suspiciously and opened the door, only to see a cute-looking girl standing there, holding a lunchbox. Seeing Tong Yao unsettled her smiling face and she became baffled. She looked Tong Yao up and down, "Who are you? Why are you in Dr. Si’s house?"
While speaking, she was still trying to peek inside the house, "Where’s Dr. Si?"
"I’m his wife, he’s gone to work. What do you need?" Tong Yao watched the girl unhurriedly. Honestly, the girl’s sudden change of expression as soon as she saw her, made Tong Yao dislike her.
Even a fool would have guessed that this girl was totally smitten by Si Chen’s appearance and was trying to impress him.
Sigh!
Being in a relationship with an exceptional man could be troublesome.
"Wife?" The girl frowned in disbelief, "Did Dr. Si get married?"
Tong Yao shrugged, "I’m standing here, what do you think?"
The girl blushed, her voice filled with indignation, "Being in his house doesn’t necessarily make you his wife." After saying this, she gave Tong Yao a fierce look, turned around and left with her lunch box. Her attitude now was worlds away from when she first knocked on the door.
Tong Yao looked at the sky speechlessly, the girl didn’t look that old, maybe around seventeen or eighteen. Tong Yao didn’t take it to heart and was just about to close the door when a woman in her late twenties with a sophisticated appearance suddenly came out from the neighboring house.
Seeing Tong Yao, she greeted with enthusiasm, "You must be Dr. Si’s wife, right?"
"Yes, I am." Tong Yao nodded.
Upon hearing this, the woman had an expression of enlightenment on her face, and laughed saying, "My husband is Dr. Guo Zhi from the orthopedic department, and I am Liu Qing."
"Sister Liu, I’m Tong Yao." Since they were neighbors and Liu Qing had introduced herself, Tong Yao naturally introduced herself too. She wasn’t socially awkward, so some simple social interaction was okay.
Since both were living in the same staff quarters and their husbands worked in the same hospital, it was easy to break the ice after the initial introductions. Liu Qing shared some information about the housing complex since Tong Yao, being new around here, didn’t know many people. It wasn’t much, but from the conversation, Tong Yao realized that the complex was quite similar to the one in Li City, even if the residents here were mostly intellectuals. But, as they lived together for a while, petty disputes were inevitable, although they never escalated into open quarrels.
Liu Qing was a junior employee in a company with a relatively laid-back schedule, working nine to five with weekends off. She just happened to have a day off and chatted with Tong Yao. Her personality was quite outgoing, and she seemed quite pleasant in the beginning, but her expression changed slightly when she found out that Tong Yao didn’t have a job.
Tong Yao didn’t bother to react, and asked about the girl earlier, "Sister Liu, why is there a girl of seventeen or eighteen years old in our complex?"
"A seventeen or eighteen-year-old?" Liu Qing pondered for a while, then suddenly laughed, "Are you talking about Deng Wenwen, the daughter of Chief Deng? She’s just turned eighteen this year and is revising at home after failing her college entrance exam."
The conversation took a sudden turn as she asked meaningfully, "How come you know her, YoYo?"
Tong Yao shook her head, "Nothing special, she was just knocking on the door looking for Ahchen. She was holding a lunchbox, which made me curious as to why there is such a young girl living here in our housing complex, so I just asked."
Upon hearing Tong Yao’s words, Liu Qing had an intriguing look on her face, and after making sure no one else was around, she leaned in closer to Tong Yao and whispered,
"YoYo, it’s just the two of us here, and I’m telling you this because I consider you as a sister. Promise not to tell anyone else. Deng Wenwen, the director’s daughter, is a troublemaker. She keeps hanging around with some shady characters from the outside world. A few days back, she went out drinking with a bunch of thugs and came back in the middle of the night. She ended up being followed by a creep, but luckily Dr. Si intervened. I heard she’s been asking around about your husband and today she came to deliver a meal. Looks like she’s got her sights set on him. You’ll want to be careful."
Tong Yao: ... The gossip has reached my doorstep?
She gave an awkward smile, "Sister Liu, thank you for the warning, don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone."
On hearing this, Liu Qing laughed heartily, "Actually, it doesn’t matter if it is told, it’s not a secret. Everyone knows about it anyway."
Tong Yao: So can it be spoken about or not?
Setting aside the matter with Deng Wenwen, from the simple conversation with Liu Qing, Tong Yao realized that, unlike the simple-minded housewives in Li City, people like Liu Qing who are used to corporate life, are crafty.
People like her are good at showing one face in front and another behind the scenes. The culture of the corporate world in Kyoto is more competitive than in Li City, so she’ll have to be cautious and make sure not to cause trouble for Si Chen.
