Shi Yan, who went to the hospital in high spirits but leaving with a gloomy face was extremely upset. Everything seemed wrong to him. He left the hospital and headed straight to a phone booth, called a few friends to go out for some drinks, but found out that one of their mothers had been diagnosed with acute brain cancer and was at the hospital in Kyoto.
Without wasting a second, Shi Yan took the bus and hurried to the hospital where his friend Xiao Mingqiang was waiting at the door.
Shi Yan frowned, "Wasn’t auntie in good health? How did she suddenly get a brain tumor?"

Talking about his mother’s condition, the twenty-something Mingqiang looked as though he had been crying. He was the eldest of five siblings, with the younger ones all still in school. Their father was working out of town and was rushing back home. Currently, he was the only family member at the hospital.
Doctors wanted him to sign the consent form for surgery. But the risk factors listed made him hesitate; he was afraid his signature might mean the end of his mother’s life. He wanted to wait for his father’s arrival to make the decision.
Even though Shi Yan wasn’t a medical professional, he knew that an acute tumor was a serious condition. "What did the doctors say?"

"Xiao Mingqiang, why are you still standing around here? Doctors are looking for you. Your mom’s condition isn’t good. You should go and check on her!"
Seeing Mingqiang casually chatting with his friend made the nurse very angry. Couldn’t this twenty-something year old distinguish between urgency and trivial matters?

Mingqiang suddenly squatted, covering his head with his hands - "I’m not refusing to sign, I just want to wait for my dad to come back."
Si Chen, ignoring Shi Yan’s words, looked expressionless at Mingqiang. "Prof. Qu is a renowned tumor specialist in the country. His success rate is impressive. If you don’t sign, there will only be one outcome, which I believe you wouldn’t want to see. The patient can’t wait any longer."
