Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Blinded by the Fox?
Being too handsome can be a sin!
Besides the lack of feelings between them and Si Chen’s fondness for Yu Shiya, there was little to pick fault with him, no wonder Tong Yaohui was so set on marrying the hostess to him.
The hostess was a bit arrogant and willful, but Si Chen was flawless in appearance and his character wasn’t bad. If his heart didn’t belong to someone else, this could have been a good match.
Tong Yao inexplicably recalled what Si Chen had said before. He stated he had no plans to divorce. She was touched for a moment, but luckily she wasn’t obsessed with love, otherwise she’d be tasting the bitterness of it.
The rain outside was pouring torrentially. Tong Yao went to close the window. A few mosquitoes came in to hide from the rain, but they dared not move and clung honestly to the wall. Every now and then, gossiping mosquitoes would fly in. Upon seeing anyone, Chen Yanmei would mention Tong Yao, and she would disparage her, making her out to be as bad as a pile of dung. Tong Yao found this very strange. She had never had any conflict with Chen Yanmei, they hadn’t even had a proper conversation. Why did this woman have such a big issue with her?
It was one thing for her to say behind her back that Yao was lazy, but calling her ugly was another. Yao found it amusing they’d disparage her that way without seeing her first. Weren’t they afraid they’d be slapped in the face when they saw her?
Just for Chen Yanmei’s comment about her being ugly, she had to go to the banquet to show everyone who was the ugly one. She may not compete with men, nor did she want to, but she had to regain her dignity. When she attended Yu Shiya’s birthday party, she would make sure she was dressed up beautifully, so those who called her ugly would see who the real eyesore was.
The following few days were shrouded with continuous rain. It was not until the day before Yu Shiya’s birthday that the weather finally cleared up.
They were expected at the banquet without having to pay, which in this era was like a pie falling from the sky. Yu Shiya was the dean’s daughter, so it went without saying that her dinner hospitality wouldn’t be anything less than excellent. Everyone had been eagerly anticipating this day as if it were a significant ceremony. Everyone brought out their finest clothes, dazzling in their best attire.
Among them, Chen Yanmei had gone to great lengths for the banquet, even buying new outfits for herself and Baodan. Li Nuanchun was a bit more low-key, but she too wore some of her best-looking clothes.
Tong Yao didn’t buy new clothes. She had brought three or four outfits from home, among which was one royal blue dress she had never worn before. At first, the hostess had pestered Tong Yaohui a lot to buy it. The outfit was from a big brand in Kyoto, a little expensive, costing three hundred Yuan. The hostess felt that wearing such clothes in a poor and remote area was very wasteful, so she had kept it in her suitcase and never wore it.
The royal blue outfit was very choosy about its wearer. It looked extraordinarily good on those with fair skin and a nice body. In contrast, those with dull skin and a bad figure would look like an old woman when wearing it. Most people couldn’t pull off this color. The hostess, naturally, was not most people, or else she wouldn’t have made a fuss to buy this dress.
When she had bought this dress, the hostess had also bought a pair of chunky sandals. She could wear them this time. The dress had mid-length sleeves which just covered the scars on her arms. There was only a small mirror in the room, but after looking at herself for a while, Tong Yao was very satisfied.
Next was the hairdo. She gathered her hair and styled it into an ’on-the-run princess’ hairstyle. After that, she split her bangs and showed her smooth forehead. The hostess had a baby-face, which made her look younger than she actually was. This style, however, added some maturity.
Although the hostess had good skin, she didn’t have much of a makeup routine. She liked applying some lipstick and had stockpiled seven or eight tubes. Yao had brought a light pink lipstick with her into town. She put it on, and it indeed added a finishing touch, making her even more radiant.
Tong Yao was pleased with her outfit and believed she undoubtedly would steal the show, showing those who had called her ugly just who the real clown was.
Checking the time, it was nearly eleven-thirty. She didn’t know where the canteen was, so she had to wait for Si Chen to come back. As luck would have it, her eyebrows needed some trimming. After looking around the room, her eyes lit up when she saw the razor blade Si Chen kept in his drawer.
When Si Chen came back, he saw Tong Yao using his razor blade to trim her eyebrows. From the first time he saw Tong Yao’s photo, he knew she was beautiful with eyes that were as brilliant as stars, and her profile was as stunning as a flower. After some days of getting to know each other, although they didn’t have the experience of being husband and wife, they already had a familiar and harmonious relationship.
He was more relaxed in front of Tong Yao than he was at the beginning, but this was the first time he had seen Tong Yao all dressed up.
Unlike her usual fresh and simple look, there was a mature beauty about her now. If she were to be compared to a flower, while she usually resembled a fresh and sunny daisy, she now looked like a captivating, romantic blue enchantress, making people unable to look away.
They say that a woman looks the most beautiful on her wedding day. She must be even more stunning in her red wedding dress than she was then.
Perhaps, not attending the wedding would become a regret of his life.
Hearing the door open, Tong Yao turned her head. In the split second their eyes met, Si Chen was discomforted and avoided her gaze. Tong Yao, with her sharp eyes, noticed Si Chen’s ear tips reddening at a speed visible to the naked eye. It seemed her outfit today was a success.
The original hostess may have been unsympathetic due to her arrogant demeanor, but there was nothing to pick on regarding her taste in clothing. Most people couldn’t compare, not even Si Chen, who is simple and immune to worldly desires. The fact that his ear tips turned red just showed how beautiful she looked today. She was pretty sure she’ll outshine Yu Shiya.
Although satisfied, Tong Yao didn’t forget the matter at hand. "Wait for me a little longer, I’ll finish trimming my eyebrows shortly."
Si Chen nodded and said, "No hurry, just be careful."
Her eyebrows were nearly done. Yao made some simple retouches and finding no major issues, she put the razor back in the drawer and stood up, saying, "Let’s go."
"Okay." Si Chen nodded.
As soon as they stepped outside, they bumped into Liu Haisheng, who was on his way back to pick up his wife. Seeing Si Chen and his wife, his steps suddenly stopped, and he was staring at Tong Yao, almost not recognizing her.
"What are you blocking the door for? Let’s go!" Li Meiyu, impatient, pushed Liu Haisheng out the door. As she left, she inadvertently glanced at Si Chen’s front door, her expression instantly freezing, quickly replaced by a surge of anger.
She thought she was well-dressed that day, but she didn’t expect Tong Yao to be even more glamorous, looking like a real-life fairy that walked right out of a painting. She was even more beautiful than the superstars on TV – she was all curves and had no flaws. She was a seductive vixen.
Looking again at Liu Haisheng, who was staring at Tong Yao, Li Meiyu was almost furious. She gritted her teeth and pushed him again, "What are you standing there for? Have you been enchanted by that vixen?"
"What are you talking about?" Liu Haisheng, having regained his senses, glared at Li Meiyu. He greeted Si Chen awkwardly and walked ahead.
