Chapter 422: Chapter 422: It’s a shame not to compete for the throne in the ancient times

Si Chen was lying on his side while sleeping, looking at Tong Yao who had pretended to fall asleep as soon as she climbed into bed. "Why don’t you stay with your parents for a while, until I sort out things at home, then I can take you back," he said.

Even if Tong Yao came back to their home, there would be no peace until everything was settled. It would be more comforting to stay here.

As she heard these words, Tong Yao immediately opened her eyes. She snorted and brought up Lin Fengying’s words, "Don’t take me back. What if your mom really jumps off the hospital building? If she jumps, could we still be happy together?"

Furthermore, if Lin Fengying continued causing a fuss, it would affect Si Chen’s career.

"Even if she doesn’t jump off the building, we won’t have a peaceful life," Si Chen said dispassionately. 𝚗𝚘v𝚙𝚞b.𝚌𝚘m

"..." Tong Yao understood that Lin Fengying was Si Chen’s real mother. Even though he could cut ties with Lin Fengying for her sake, he could not bear to see Lin Fengying die.

Si Chen, having been through so much since childhood and currently being pushed by Lin Fengying, was truly the most distressed and tormented one.

Having thought about this, Tong Yao suddenly felt sympathy for him. She stretched out of the quilt to put an arm around his neck. "Don’t think too much about it. I was just ranting a bit. Let’s give her some time to calm down. I’m going to stay home with my parents for a bit anyway."

Si Chen gently patted her shoulder without saying anything. In the darkness, his eyes were complex and difficult to understand - no one knew what he was thinking.

The next day, Wen Yun got up early to prepare breakfast, and everyone went about their own business after eating.

Tong Yao arrived earlier than Deng Wenwen. Just as she opened the ledger, the store’s phone started ringing. It was Wang Chun who was very happy to hear Tong Yao on the phone.

"Yaoyao, I was worried I called too early, and that you wouldn’t be at the store to answer. Akai is taking me to Hai City for vacation, and we’re leaving today. We won’t be back until after the New Year." Wang Chun’s voice was its usual softness, but it was brimming with uncontainable joy.

Since they got married, this was the first time Akai had taken her on a vacation. Akai had been very busy the past two years and had no time to take her out.

Tong Yao frowned, "You’re leaving today - what’s the rush?"

"It’s either snowing or raining in Kyoto before the New Year. It’s freezing, so Akai decided to take me to Hai City," Wang Chun quickly responded before Zhao Wenkai urged her to leave. "Yaoyao, we’re leaving now. When I get back, I’ll bring you some local products from Hai City. The coconut juice there is delicious."

Coconuts, which were ubiquitous in the 21st century, were not sold everywhere in these times, and not every household could afford to drink it.

Listening to Zhao Wenkai’s voice from the other end of the line, Tong Yao didn’t want to say much. Moreover, with the New Year approaching, any more issues would be bad for everyone. She took a deep breath and said, "Hope you enjoy your trip."

After she hung up the phone, Tong Yao couldn’t help cursing. That scoundrel, Zhao Wenkai, had preemptively taken Wang Chun on a vacation to Hai City to prevent Tong Yao from revealing the truth.

This man was so cunning that it was a pity he couldn’t compete for the throne in ancient times.

With the New Year coming up, one problem followed another - it was truly frustrating.

As she picked up the ledger and flipped through it, out of the corner of her eye she saw someone come into the store. She initially assumed someone was here to buy milk tea. But as she raised her head, she saw Lin Man walk in.

The way Lin Man dressed now was worlds apart from before. Previously, she had dressed like a young girl. Now, she dressed like a vixen exuding a sense of mature charm, and looked more like a married woman than Wang Chun.

Tong Yao rolled her eyes and slammed shut the ledger, "What are you doing here without any business? Looking for trouble?"

"I can’t come to your store for milk tea?" Lin Man replied arrogantly.

Tong Yao scoffed, "Yes, I’m indeed in business, but I don’t want to do business with mistresses."

Hearing the words "mistress", the smile vanished from Lin Man’s face. "Is this how you treat your customers? How can you do business with this attitude?"

"This is my store. I am the boss. I can sell to whoever I want, and I can refrain from selling if I don’t want to. Even the emperor cannot dictate otherwise." Tong Yao was not to be guilt-tripped - she worked hard to become the boss so she could freely manage her customer service.

Lin Man was speechless at the retort but didn’t become angry. "You think you are so great because you have a store? Tong Yao, you’re just so unambitious. Is this all you’ve got?"

"Before you criticize others for lack of ambition, look at yourself in the mirror. What are you? At the very least, I am a boss. What about you?"

"What Wenkai can offer me will be ten times what you have now." When Lin Man referred to Zhao Wenkai, her tone became arrogant.

How could a village doctor like Si Chen compare to a big boss like Zhao Wenkai? Tong Yao didn’t stand a chance, even with Si Chen by her side.

They were not on the same level at all.

Tong Yao coldly laughed, "Why don’t you wait until he gives it to you, then come show off? If someone serves you cakes, you’re just foolish enough to believe it. You’re waggling your tail in front of people, Lin Man. Are you really stupid, or has money clouded your judgment?"

Whether Zhao Wenkai had a bit of sincerity toward Wang Chun, Tong Yao was not sure. But she was certain that Zhao Wenkai did not have genuine feelings for Lin Man. This man had deep schemes and always put his own interests first.

Lin Man’s face gradually turned red upon Tong Yao’s words, but she quickly composed herself and glared at Tong Yao.

"Tong Yao, you don’t need to say these words to mock me. Do you believe you are better than me just because you have a shop? Why keep up this pretense of purity and high-mindedness? If Si Chen was not handsome, capable, and intent on a career in Kyoto, you would’ve left him long ago! Would you willingly marry a guy from the countryside? Don’t be a pot that calls the kettle black. You look down on me for being a mistress, but you are no different."

What was wrong with her being a mistress to Zhao Wenkai?

She sought a better life where no one could control her. What was wrong with that?

Tong Yao did not have this opportunity, otherwise she might not have resisted such temptation.

"You’re saying all this to find some balance in your heart, right?" Tong Yao saw through Lin Man’s small tricks and bluntly broke through: "You think you are better than Wang Chun, and worthy of Zhao Wenkai’s affection? Take a good look at yourself. Don’t behave as though Zhao Wenkai would let you replace Wang Chun, you are just daydreaming."

Originally, Tong Yao was not a busybody. However, the person Lin Man was messing with was Zhao Wenkai, so she felt compelled to admonish Lin Man.

Lin Man’s face turned red with anger at Tong Yao’s words, but she suppressed it and argued back: "Even from the point of view that Wang Chun cannot have kids, I’m a hundred times better than her."
