The more people there were around, the more he liked to command my mother just to show off. I can see right through my father’s bad behavior, but my mother can’t. She refuses to divorce him, and I’m afraid one day he’ll beat her to death."
To be honest, Guo Jinnian sometimes feels sorry for her mother and sometimes, she despises her. She just can’t understand it, what’s there to hold onto with such a man?
Wouldn’t it be a nice life if she lived with her in the city?
