Chapter 513: Chapter 513: Gu Hongwei Falls Ill

Gu Hongwei glanced outside to see that it was getting dark and promptly started to get out of bed, "I’m going to check on them."

Guo Jinnian held him back, "You’re already quite ill, don’t make things worse. What if you faint while wandering about, who would carry you back? That would just be adding more confusion to the situation."

The moment her words faded, a knock on the door rang out. Guo Jinnian’s eyes lit up, "Look, they’ve returned."

Upon opening the door and seeing only Tong Yao return, Guo Jinnian glanced around in confusion, "Yaoyao, didn’t you find the doctor?"

"The doctor was too busy and refused to come out," Tong Yao entered the room, noticing that Gu Hongwei was awake, she sighed in relief. "I bought some fever-reducing medicine. Let’s get him to take some first."

"Thank you." Seeing that Tong Yao had safely returned, Gu Hongwei, completely drained, leaned back against the headboard of the bed.

"Look how weak you are, quickly take your medicine!"

Guo Jinnian handed over another cup of water, Gu Hongwei took it and drank half of it with the fever medicine that Tong Yao provided. He seemed slightly more alert than before.

Seeing that he had taken the medicine, Tong Yao gently suggested, "You stay here and rest for a while, I’ll go out and buy some food."

She hadn’t eaten anything all day and her stomach had been grumbling loudly, making her feel quite uncomfortable.

Guo Jinnian suggested, "I’ll go with you! It’s getting late and it’s not safe for you to go out alone." She adamantly didn’t want to stay in the room and nurse Gu Hongwei.

Just the thought of having been taken advantage of by Gu Hongwei and now having to take care of him in return made her uneasy.

"Hongwei..."

Tong Yao was worried about Gu Hongwei.

"I’ll be fine, just both of you go! Otherwise, I’ll be worried about you going out alone." Although Guo Jinnian was a female as well, she knew martial arts, not just anybody could beat her.

With her accompanying Tong Yao, Gu Hongwei felt reassured.

"Alright."

Tong Yao nodded her head, leading Guo Jinnian out with her. No sooner had they stepped outside than Guo Jinnian began muttering to herself.

"He always seems so reticent but who knew he’d just collapse from illness just like that. He seemed in perfectly good health earlier in the morning."

Tong Yao sighed, "It’s probably the double hit from physical and emotional stress. He hasn’t had any sleep these past few days, found out about his father’s death upon his return, and then his aunt fighting over the property, anyone would breakdown under such conditions. Although he’s strong on the surface, he must be distraught inside; after all, he’s lost the person who loved him the most in this world."

"That’s true." Feeling a pang of sympathy for Gu Hongwei, Guo Jinnian thought to herself: if I’d known, I would have been a little nicer to him earlier, the poor guy does seem pitiful.

They reached the ground floor where street vendors were busy selling snacks under the new darkness. Like a starved wolf, Guo Jinnian gobbled up one snack after another, apparently having forgotten about the ill Gu Hongwei in the ward. She continued eating and carrying more food in her hands, looking really delighted.

Tong Yao, on the other hand, did not rush her. Knowing that Gu Hongwei would most likely have no appetite due to his sickness, she figured it might be better for him to eat after his fever subsides.

"Wow, Yaoyao, you have so many delicious foods here. It’s much more than Li City, which is pretty quiet as soon as it gets dark." Guo Jinnian exclaimed while happily munching on a sugar cake, the sweet taste filling her mouth with each bite, it tasted absolutely delicious.

Tong Yao took out a handkerchief and wiped the sugar syrup from the corner of Guo Jinnian’s mouth, chuckling, "This place is quite suitable for retirement." n𝚘𝚟𝚙𝚞𝚋.𝚌o𝚖

Without a second thought, Guo Jinnian questioned immediately, "Will you retire here in the future? If you decide to live here, then I will move here as well. Anyway, this place is near my hometown, I can go back whenever I want, quite convenient."

Tong Yao shook her head, "No, both Ahchen and my careers are in Kyoto, Ahchen doesn’t like it here, so we probably won’t come back."

In her previous life, Si Chen had always stayed in Kyoto. Now thinking about it, perhaps it was because of the hurt Lin Fengying caused him!

How she wished she had paid more attention to Si Chen’s family situation back then; she did not know how Lin Fengying had died.

Did she become bedridden like she had in this life, or did she live a peaceful, easy life? If it was the latter, it would be totally unfair.

Guo Jinnian expressed slight disappointment, "Such a shame to miss out on these delicious foods."

"Tong Yao."

A surprised, somewhat familiar voice suddenly sounded from behind.

Tong Yao turned around, to find Yu Shiya and Si Jun approaching. Yu Shiya was heavily pregnant and seemed close to giving birth. It was surprising to see their relationship had progressed so well. But then again, considering the options left in the hospital besides Si Chen, Si Jun was the only outstanding option. Yu Shiya’s standards were pretty high and she wouldn’t settle for an average man.

Out of politeness, Tong Yao nodded at Yu Shiya, "What a coincidence."

"So it’s really you!" Yu Shiya was extremely surprised, "I thought I was seeing things. Weren’t you divorced from Dr. Si? What are you doing here?"

As far as she knew, Si Chen had gone abroad for further studies, and Tong Yao had divorced him before he left. The rumor had come from Si Chen’s sister and mother, so it should be quite credible. So, why would Tong Yao be here?

After getting divorced, why would she come here?

"Shiya." Si Jun felt Yu Shiya’s question was somewhat rude and gently reminded her.

Tong Yao blinked, feigning confusion, "Really? Where did you hear that from? Ahchen and I are fine. In fact, we were planning to go to your hospital for a pregnancy check-up tomorrow."

Yu Shiya looked doubtful, holding her burgeoning belly, "I heard it from your mother-in-law and sister-in-law. They clearly said you and Dr. Si had divorced, yet here you are! Have you remarried?"

Yu Shiya figured that there was a high probability they had gotten married again or that Si Xiaohui and Lin Fengying were lying.

However, she felt that the probability of Si Chen and Tong Yao getting divorced and remarrying was higher. When she first heard of their divorce, Yu Shiya was inexplicably pleased.

She couldn’t clarify her feelings, she was just very happy. But now that they might have remarried, Yu Shiya’s unhappiness was clearly written on her face.

This time, before Tong Yao could respond, Guo Jinnian interjected, "Lin Fengying and Si Xiaohui are clearly out of their minds. You believe everything they say? You should be careful, it might affect the IQ of the baby in your belly. Looking at how beautiful Yaoyao is, where would Si Chen find such a gorgeous daughter-in-law if they got divorced? If you were in his place, would you be willing to divorce such a wife?"

Yu Shiya’s face fell, she was about to retort when Guo Jinnian continued, "Yaoyao and Dr. Si’s relationship is wonderful. Dr. Si just came back to see Yaoyao not too long ago. The young couple opened over a dozen milk tea shops in Kyoto, bought dozens of houses, and are living a prosperous life. What’s your intention here?"

After finishing her sentence, she didn’t even give Yu Shiya a chance to respond. She took Tong Yao and left. Seeing Yu Shiya didn’t follow, Guo Jinnian slowed her pace, grinning victoriously.

"Yaoyao, how did I do just now? Wasn’t it awesome?"

Tong Yao burst into laughter, "How did you figure out that I wasn’t on friendly terms with her?"
