Chapter 542: Chapter 542 Call
As the seconds ticked by, Brother Tai and his group were drinking and eating. They spent more than two hours doing so, but thankfully the alcohol wasn’t plentiful. Otherwise, no one knew how long they would have kept drinking.
Feeling full, Brother Tai and his companions rose to leave. As they left, they patted Tong Yaohui’s shoulder, promising to come back to buy chickens in a few days. Tong Yaohui kindly saw them off the Breeding Farm with a smile.
Just before leaving, Brother Tai took a glance around the farm. They hadn’t gotten far when police officers charged out from the roadside and detained them. Caught off guard, they were immediately handcuffed and pinned to the ground by the policemen.
The sudden surprise sobered them up quite a bit. Niu Wa and Er Lvzi were so scared they wet themselves while Mangzi and Brother Tai were also frightened.
Among the four, Brother Tai managed to remain the calmest. He feigned ignorance, asking, "Comrades, has something happened? Why are you arresting us good folks? We’re simple country folk working nearby."
Mangzi quickly agreed, "Yes, we’re not bad people. We lease two nearby mountains for farming. We didn’t do anything wrong! If you don’t believe us, ask the people at the farm. We were just helping them push the cart, and they had invited us for a meal."
The squad leader simply answered, "Whether you are guilty or not will be determined at the police station."
At that moment, Jian Jun and Liu Sanwa stepped out from the roadside bushes. Upon seeing Jian Jun, Brother Tai immediately appealed for help, "Young man, please explain to the policemen. We’re not criminals."
Jian Jun glared at Brother Tai, "Whether you’re a criminal or not, the police will investigate."
Having said that, Jian Jun and the squad leader returned to the farm with Jian Jun leading the way.
Tong Yao and the others were still at the entrance of the farm. Seeing Jian Jun and Liu Sanwa returning with the police, they heaved a sigh of relief, knowing that Brother Tai and his crew had been caught.
After the captain learned that Tong Yao had also called the station requesting more officers to help, he praised her highly.
When the trio had explained everything, the captain frowned and said, "They’re probably habitual offenders. There have been several incidents reported recently in this area involving them but we haven’t acted as we don’t have solid evidence. Thank you for your assistance. We’ll investigate thoroughly and make sure no criminal escapes justice."
Hearing this, Cheng Feng immediately said, "The mute woman is severely injured and will need to be sent to a hospital. I think she might have been bought or trafficked. You need to check on her immediately!"
Upon hearing this, the captain asked with a grave expression, "Can any of you help guide us to her?"
Cheng Feng stepped forward, "Let me do it! Only the three of us have been up the mountain before, and it’s not suitable for the ladies to go up again."
Although he disliked the idea of revisiting that place, Cheng Feng willingly volunteered, thinking of the mute woman’s predicament.
Tong Yao turned to Jian Jun,"Jian Jun, you should eat something first, then accompany Mr. Cheng."
Upon hearing this, Jian Jun promptly nodded to the captain, "Could you please wait for a moment? I’ll grab something to eat quickly."
After saying this, he ran to grab some bread from the kitchen, filled up his water bottle, and rushed outside. Chewing on a piece of bread, he said, "Let’s go!"
They watched as the party departed. Only then did Tong Yao and the others return to the farm. Wen Yun fetched some clean, loose clothing for Hu Haiyun, asking her to change and rest in her room. She then listened with fear to Tong Yao’s recounting of the events up the mountain.
She was relieved to hear that Tong Yao was alright.
While they were talking, the phone suddenly rang. Tong Yaohui picked up the phone and immediately smiled upon hearing the voice on the other end, "Xiaochen, how have you been doing lately?"
"Fine, then. I’ll pass you to Yaoyao."
Tong Yaohui kept the conversation with his son-in-law brief. After exchanging a few pleasantries, he passed the phone to Tong Yao.
It was up to his daughter to tell her husband about her pregnancy!
When Wen Yun heard that Si Chen was calling, she came back to her senses. She beckoned for everyone to leave the room so they wouldn’t interfere with the couple’s conversation.
The moment Tong Yao heard Si Chen’s voice over the phone, a delightful smile spread across her face. The fright from the past few days seemed to dissipate instantly. Unable to contain her joy, she excitedly said, "Ahchen, I’m glad you finally called. I’ve been waiting to tell you some good news, but you haven’t been calling recently."
Even over the phone, Si Chen could hear Tong Yao’s joy. He rubbed his temples, trying to hide his fatigue, he said, "I also have some good news to share, you go first."
A smiling Tong Yao said, "Really? I love to hear good news. I am planning to come to visit you abroad in a while."
She deliberately held back the news about her pregnancy, wanting to hear Si Chen’s news first before telling him.
When Si Chen heard this, he smiled, "Good. Find someone to accompany you. I’m not comfortable with you traveling alone."
The thought of seeing each other soon made Tong Yao even happier. She nodded enthusiastically, "What’s the good news on your side?"
Si Chen chuckled, "My performance here has been great, and I might be coming home earlier than expected."
Upon hearing this, joy filled Tong Yao’s eyes but she tried to appear calm, "Really? That’s good. Oh, and there’s something else I forgot to tell you."
"Hm?"
Si Chen’s voice rose a little, apparently slightly dissatisfied at her indifferent reaction.
Yaoyao squinted and said, "When I was in Li City last time, I wasn’t feeling well. After getting a check-up, the doctor told me I was pregnant."
Silence followed from Si Chen’s side of the phone. Yaoyao’s heart pounded. After some time and receiving no response, she became anxious. "Ahchen, do you think you’re being too calm? You’re about to be a father. Shouldn’t you be very happy right now?"
After a pause, Si Chen’s deep voice came over the phone, "Yaoyao, I am very happy right now and I really want to get on a plane right now to be with you."
Despite the distance, Yaoyao could feel his restraint on the other end of the phone.
Words couldn’t express how much Si Chen wanted to be by Tong Yao’s side in this moment.
Tong Yao could feel Si Chen’s yearning. Happy but also a little upset for him, she knew that unlike her with her family and friends, Si Chen was alone overseas. She comforted him, "Ahchen, I will take good care of myself, and you should too. After we get through these years, our family will never be apart again."
Thinking of the baby, her voice was filled with joy, "I never thought I’d have the chance to be a mother in this lifetime. I didn’t expect our baby to come so unexpectedly. In around seven to eight months’ time, our baby will be born."
