Chapter 549: Chapter 549: Going Abroad 2

When Tong Yao saw Zhou Minyue, Zhou Minyue also noticed her. She seemed unable to believe that she would run into Tong Yao here. She stood in place, stunned for a moment. After triple checking that it was indeed Tong Yao, she made a quick excuse to the person next to her before walking towards Tong Yao.

"Tong Yao?"

Tong Yao responded with a polite smile and a slight nod, "Hello, Dr. Zhou."

Zhou Minyue opened her mouth in disbelief, her eyes questioning, "How did you end up here? You’re not here looking for Dr. Si, are you?"

Tong Yao nodded, "I am here to see Ahchen."

Zhou Minyue furrowed her brows, "Didn’t you divorce Dr. Si?"

Guo Jinnian interjected, "Yaoyao didn’t divorce Dr. Si at all, it was just a rumor. She is even carrying Dr. Si’s child in her belly now. Can you help us by notifying Dr. Si? We’ve been waiting here for over an hour and the gate guard won’t let us in. Yaoyao is pregnant and she needs a place to eat and rest."

Zhou Minyue’s gaze fell on Tong Yao’s belly as if she was questioning something.

Tong Yao remained silent, waiting quietly for Zhou Minyue to respond. After a while, Zhou Minyue laughed lightly, apologizing, "I see. I thought you two had divorced. I’m sorry for misunderstanding, Dr. Si didn’t mention it, so I didn’t know that you two didn’t get a divorce. Please don’t mind."

Tong Yao found Zhou Minyue’s words amusing and responded with a light smile, "It’s okay. Ahchen doesn’t like to talk about personal matters with others. It’s perfectly normal that you didn’t know."

Zhou Minyue nodded, "Right! I usually only discuss medical matters with Dr. Si. He’s really talented, even professors from abroad speak highly of him. They even want to invite him to work here after his training."

Before Tong Yao could respond, Zhou Minyue laughed and said, "Look at me, so caught up in the chit-chat that I forgot about the main issue. When I left earlier, Dr. Si was still busy. He probably will be for a while longer. I’ll go check with him now and see if he can be freed up ahead of time."

Tong Yao nodded in thanks, "No trouble. If Ahchen is busy, let him finish his work first!"

"Alright."

Zhou Minyue nodded, then turned around and walked back inside.

Watching Zhou Minyue’s retreating figure, Guo Jinnian was full of curiosity, "Yaoyao, who is she? Why does her speech make me feel uncomfortable?"

Tong Yao replied softly, "She’s a doctor from People’s First Hospital and came here for a training program with Ahchen."

Guo Jinnian looked shocked, "You were okay with Dr. Si going to study abroad with a woman?"

Even though Guo Jinnian had never been in a relationship, she knew that a man and a woman in a foreign country could easily develop feelings for each other, especially with the way Dr. Zhou spoke and the expression she had when she saw Tong Yao. Something didn’t feel quite right.

Tong Yao remained silent, biting her lip. Guo Jinnian suddenly realized that it wasn’t a good time to say such things. After all, Tong Yao was carrying a child and they had come all this way. She couldn’t say anything that could affect Tong Yao’s mood.

Inside the building, Zhou Minyue went directly to the research room where Si Chen was. Seeing Si Chen in a discussion about a disease strain with a tutor, Zhou Minyue joined in but did not mention Tong Yao. Instead, she intentionally brought up more questions and findings, all common knowledge items.

Being polite, the tutor provided answers to Zhou Minyue. The three of them talked for over an hour before the tutor, after checking the time, reminded them that it was time to rest.

Si Chen headed into the changing room, looking to change his clothes before he left. But Zhou Minyue followed Si Chen and said, "Dr. Si, I have other matters that I would like to ask you about."

Si Chen replied indifferently, "Wait for me to change, we can talk whilst we walk."

Zhou Minyue persisted: "But I think it’s more appropriate to speak here. It’s easier for me to record the discussion."

Si Chen firmly said, "I need to call home later, if you are in a hurry, you can discuss with others."

After saying this, he stepped into the changing room. Zhou Minyue opened her mouth to speak, but the words stuck in her throat. After hesitating for a moment, she didn’t leave. Instead, she waited for Si Chen to come out and discussed medical matters with him as they walked.

The questions she asked were all basic, after answering two of them, Si Chen scowled: "Dr. Zhou, I would advise you to pay more attention when the tutor speaks. At your level, if you perform a surgery, you wouldn’t be an angel in white, but a death sentence for the patient."

Zhou Minyue wasn’t anticipating such a direct response from Si Chen and turned bright red.

Truth be told, she really wasn’t up to par. Without her connections, she would never have been selected for this training program. Everyone in the hospital knew this but due to her position, no one dared to say it directly, only talking behind her back.

She didn’t expect Si Chen to be so blunt.

She bit her lip and said, "Dr. Si, I know I’m not very capable, but I’m studying hard. I believe in the power of diligence. Talent is important, but as long as I’m willing to work hard, I think..."

She was only halfway through when she noticed a change in Si Chen’s expression and he quickened his pace. Looking in the direction of his gaze, she noticed that they had reached the school gate.

Ever since they went abroad, Zhou Minyue always saw Si Chen as someone who kept his distance from others. He only maintained a professional demeanor, rarely took care of her, let alone show any kind of connection.

This was the first time she saw such an expression on his face, as if a long-awaited person suddenly appeared before his eyes...

Seeing the man who was walking quickly towards them, Guo Jinnian was uncertain, "Yaoyao, could that be your Ahchen?"

If it truly was him, she could understand why Tong Yao was so attached to Si Chen.

Tong Yao’s eyes twinkled as she smiled, looking as if she had the whole galaxy in her eyes, "That’s Ahchen."

Oh my, it really is him.

Tong Yao stood still, watching as Si Chen walked closer. Just about when they were about to collide, Si Chen abruptly stopped and said sternly, "Stop."

Subconsciously, Tong Yao stopped and looked confused, "What for?"

Si Chen quickly closed the gap between the two, pulling her into his arms. His voice instantly softened, "Running too fast might hurt the baby."

With the person he had been longing for in his arms, the corners of Si Chen’s mouth turned upwards uncontrollably, his eyes filled with suppressed joy. The usually calm and composed Si Chen was unable to control his emotions at this moment, continuously stroking Tong Yao’s hair.

Feeling Si Chen’s heartbeat, Tong Yao felt a sense of security. She thought that all the waiting was worth it the moment she was hugged by Si Chen.

While she was ecstatic, she suddenly heard Zhou Minyue exclaim in surprise, "I’m really sorry. After I went inside, I saw Dr. Si discussing a disease with the tutor, so I joined in and totally forgot to tell him about you, Yaoyao."
