Guo Jinnian was cutting a cake for the first time. He didn’t know how to do it without making it seem like he was inexperienced, embarrassing Tong Yao. He finally managed to do it right when Zhou Minyue decided to leave.

Guo Jinnian was left disappointed; he hadn’t had a chance to show his abilities yet.

Tong Yao shrugged her shoulders and commented genuinely, "Zhou Minyue is smarter than I thought. If I’m not mistaken, she’s probably not interested in Ah Chen anymore."

Guo Jinnian inquired curiously, "Did you just pressure her to keep her distance from Si Chen?"

Tong Yao shook her head, "No, I just told her that even if Ah Chen and I were to divorce, considering how outstanding I am, anyone who knew that Ah Chen had an ex-wife like me would live in constant fear. Afraid that I might snatch him away."

As the reality proved, Zhou Minyue was a clever woman. She realized even if she succeeds by hook or by crook, there wouldn’t be any good outcome, so she stopped while she was ahead.

Guo Jinnian froze for a moment, putting himself in Zhou Minyue’s shoes. He finally gave a thumbs-up to Tong Yao, "Bravo. Yaoyao, you’re really clever."

Taking a bite of the cake Guo Jinnian handed to her, "Jinnian, I feel like a woman’s thoughts shouldn’t be revolving around a man all the time. You need to shine yourself; only then will people see you and be attracted by your light. If you’re always standing in a man’s spotlight, your world will turn dark once you lose him."

Guo Jinnian seized the cake from Tong Yao’s hand promptly, "Don’t eat anymore, it could be poisoned."

Tong Yao responded, "Don’t worry, it won’t be."

Just as she finished her sentence, there was a sound of the front door opening. Both of them turned to see Si Chen walking in, carrying groceries.

He reminded them quietly, "Remember to lock the door next time."

Guo Jinnian responded on instinct, "Zhou Minyue must have left it open. Do you think she did it on purpose?"

Si Chen frowned, "Zhou Minyue was here?"

Nodding, Guo Jinnian added, "She brought this cake."

After he spoke, he quickly ate a few more bites of the cake, thinking if it was indeed poisoned, the more he ate, the quicker it would take effect.

Si Chen didn’t answer. He set his groceries on the table and saw a bit of cream on Tong Yao’s mouth. He gently wiped it off and asked with concern, "Are you hungry?"

Tong Yao nodded, "Yes, a bit. I had some morning sickness earlier, but my appetite is pretty good now. I’m always hungry. I guess I’ll gain at least thirty pounds by the time I give birth."

Thinking of herself gaining thirty pounds, and having a round, protruding belly, Tong Yao’s eyes narrowed into slits.

Si Chen quietly chuckled, "It’s okay. As long as you keep yourself healthy, eat when you’re hungry. Have some cake for now while I go cook."

Si Chen picked up the groceries to head into the kitchen. The restaurant they had lunch at was near the academy, undoubtedly clean but the food wasn’t exactly to their liking. Tong Yao hadn’t eaten much at lunch, which upset Si Chen. That was why he’d been delayed; he’d gone to buy ingredients for dinner.

Guo Jinnian looked at the cake in her hands, "Dr Si, aren’t you worried the cake might be poisoned?"

Without turning his head, Si Chen responded, "She wouldn’t be that insane."

Hearing this, Guo Jinnian was relieved and quickly passed the cake back to Tong Yao. The two sat on the couch, enjoying the cake.

This was Guo Jinnian’s first time eating cake. She found the sweet flavor delicious.
