Chapter 580: Chapter 580: Going to the Breeding Farm
Wen Yun scrutinized Tong Yao, clutching her hand, "Yaoyao, you’ve lost weight after your trip abroad. Couldn’t you get used to the food there? I heard that overseas all they eat is bread and undercooked beef."
Only god knew that Wen Yun went two nights without sleep once she heard about the flood in F City. She only found some comfort after receiving a call from Gu Hongwei. Even so, without seeing her daughter, she remained worried. Now that her daughter was standing there unharmed, Wen Yun finally felt relieved.
Tong Yao laughed at Wen Yun’s exaggerated description, "Mom, my weight hasn’t changed. You think I’ve lost weight because you’ve been so worried about me."
Wen Yun retorted, "Your chin has sharpened, you’ve lost weight indeed. You’re pregnant now. If your weight hasn’t changed, it’s because your belly has grown. I’ve slaughtered three roosters and a hen for dinner. Make sure you eat a lot."
Knowing that Wen Yun was just concerned about her, Tong Yao quickly nodded. "I’ve had a good appetite recently, I can eat a lot."
Laughing, Wen Yun patted Tong Yao’s head and then turned to Si Chen, "Xiaochen, you’ve lost weight too. Did you have difficulty eating abroad? Let me know what you want to eat, I’ll make it for you. You’ve finally come home, you must eat well and replenish."
Si Chen nodded, "Mom, I love whatever you make."
Wen Yun was pleased by Si Chen’s words, and quickly asked Gu Hongwei and Guo Jinnian what they want to eat. When Guo Jinnian came out from behind Tong Yao, Wen Yun noticed his arm was plastered.
She asked with concern, "Jinnian, what happened to your arm? Are you injured?"
Guo Jinnian wisely chose not to tell the truth this time, "Auntie, I fell and broke my arm. It’ll heal in a few months, it’s nothing."
Hearing about the fracture, Wen Yun showed more concern, "You should eat more meat to help recover. Our place is quite far from the market, otherwise, I could go and buy some bones for you."
Guo Jinnian was deeply moved by Wen Yun’s kindness, "Auntie, you’re so good. Eating more chicken will do the same."
Emerging from behind Gu Hongwei, Fu Yiheng took the initiative to introduce himself: "Auntie, my name is Fu Yiheng. I’m a friend of Doctor Si and Yaoyao. I came to visit on short notice this time and didn’t bring a gift. I hope you don’t mind."
Wen Yun had been so absorbed by Tong Yao and Guo Jinnian’s company that she only just noticed Fu Yiheng. Remembering she’d neglected a guest, she quickly said, "Yiheng, don’t worry about it. You can treat this place as your home..."
Tong Yao was amused by how much Wen Yun’s manners had adapted to the surroundings and asked with a smile, "Mom, where’s Dad?"
The mention of Tong Yaohui left Wen Yun a little annoyed, "Don’t you bring that up! Your father heard you folks would be here and insisted on catching fish for you to eat. He’s been out at the pond since early morning and he hasn’t returned yet."
After hearing this, Si Chen said, "I’ll go and find him."
Upon hearing that Tong Yaohui was fishing, Fu Yiheng hurried to follow Si Chen, "I’ll go as well."
Gu Hongwei was not far behind them, and the silent driver who drove them also followed.
Tong Yao and Guo Jinnian followed Wen Yun into the kitchen to chat, but Wen Yun asked them to go to the other room to watch TV, worrying the smell of cooking oil might upset Tong Yao’s stomach.
She needed to eat well because she was pregnant with twins and required a lot of nutrition. Wen Yun was looking forward to becoming a grandmother next year.
Tong Yao truly couldn’t bear the smell of the oil and was just about to leave when she ran into the mute girl carrying a basket of vegetables. The girl had been doing well living at the farm these past few days. Her wounds had healed and she had put on some weight. Tong Yao noticed she was quite pretty and had a gentle demeanor, although her skin had darkened a bit.
Seeing Tong Yao, the mute girl got excited, her eyes misting up as she signed something desperately. Tong Yao didn’t understand sign language, but it was clear that the mute girl was expressing her gratitude for being rescued.
Tong Yao laughed, "I’m glad you could adapt to life here. I didn’t do much for you, so don’t feel too grateful."
Wen Yun was also fond of the mute girl and introduced her to Tong Yao, "I don’t quite understand what she says. We don’t know her name, so I gave her one - Ajing. That’s what we usually call her."
Upon hearing this, Tong Yao said, "I brought some books. You can take a look at them and you’ll get it with time."
Wen Yun nodded and urged Tong Yao to go watch TV. Ajing stayed to help cook. Ajing was always diligent and would help with whatever she could. She usually got up very early and would have breakfast prepared by the time Wen Yun woke up.
Wen Yun really liked Ajing and felt pity for her. She even planned to discuss with Tong Yaohui about adopting Ajing as a foster daughter.
Meanwhile, as soon as Fu Yiheng and the driver arrived at the reservoir, they instantly fell in love with fishing. Tong Yaohui finally found someone who shared his interest. Instead of returning, he enthusiastically taught them how to fish and sent Si Chen and Gu Hongwei back with the fish they’d caught.
Jian Jun and Liu Sanwa were coincidentally coming down from the mountain. Seeing them carrying fish, they helpfully took them to the well to clean.
After greeting Tong Yao, theyavolunteered to help with the cooking in the kitchen. They loved the atmosphere of this big, united family. It was reminiscent of past days when their family members were still alive. Everything felt especially rewarding.
It was only when the meal was ready and Tong Yaohui still hadn’t returned, that Wen Yun personally went to get him from the pond. All the way home, she scolded him for delaying his duties because of his fishing addiction. Tong Yaohui knew he was at fault and didn’t argue back.
Since there wasn’t enough space in the house for everyone, they joined two tables together and ate outside.
The weather was nice, and it was warm outside. The appetite of people in these times was generally good. People like Liu Sanwa and Jian Jun could eat up to four bowls of rice in one meal.
Only preparing a massive pot of rice would be enough. It was a good thing they only worked here. If they were anywhere else, their boss would have been heartbroken seeing the amount of food they consumed.
Wen Yun cooked a large table-full meal. They all ate joyfully, as if it was a big festivity.
After the meal, everyone sat in front of the door chatting. Guo Jinnian secretly reminded Tong Yao not to forget her promise of match-making. When Tong Yao brought it up in front of Tong Yaohui, Gu Hongwei felt something strange. He looked at Guo Jinnian, who didn’t look her age and could easily be mistaken for a 21 or 22-year old. Realizing that she was 25 now, an age when many women were already having babies, he realized she really should start thinking about finding a partner. He could only wonder who Tong Yaohui might introduce her to.
