Chapter 583: Chapter 583: I Might Not Be Good At Fighting

Guo Jinnian was not well-versed in these matters, but after listening to Tong Yao, she understood them.

She had bought her house yet the property title deed was still not ready. It had been purchased from another entity, she had assumed that having paid the money, it was her house. It was only when Tong Yao mentioned it, did she understand the gravity of the situation.

"Yaoyao, does the lack of documentation mean that the house isn’t technically mine?"

Tong Yao nodded: "Ideally, you should go get your housing property certificate. There could be issues if the seller disowns the transaction stating that they never received the payment since it was in cash."

A house painstakingly bought, with the sudden realization that it doesn’t legally belong to her and could be reclaimed at any time, disturbed Guo Jinnian. "I will get the property deed sorted within a few days."

Tong Yao glanced at Guo Jinnian’s arms in casts and said reassuringly: "I’m worried about you going back alone, see if you can have someone accompany you."

Considering Guo Jinnian had aggressive parents, it was likely she would be at a disadvantage now that she was injured and unable to defend herself.

Guo Jinnian nodded, while Hongwei tried to pull the conversation back to the car purchase. Considering their financial situation, he suggested: "Yaoyao, we don’t have a lot of cash on hand right now. Shall we hold off on buying the car until next year?"

Next year, they should be able to sell a batch of chickens and ducks from the farm, immediately turning a profit. The money from which could easily be used to buy a car.

Tong Yao shook her head, "We’ve already paid off our loans and have a decent credit standing. It wouldn’t be wrong to get another loan from the bank to buy a car. It will make travelling and transporting goods easier. If we are going to buy one eventually, why not enjoy the convenience sooner?"

Before Hongwei could say anything, Tong Yao continued seriously, "Besides, we don’t just need the car for our convenience, there are other factors to consider. We are young without any social connections or familial references. If we want to establish ourselves in Kyoto, we need more than just sheer determination and resilience."

Hongwei didn’t quite understand. "Establish ourselves?"

Guo Jinnian was also confused. "How do you ’establish’ ourselves?"

A glint in Tong Yao’s eyes hinted at her sharp intelligence, "By ’establish’, I mean leveraging what is accessible to us to raise our status. This will make people perceive us as important. For example, if a man on a bicycle and another in a van came looking for you, who would you assume is the more senior?"

Without thinking, Guo Jinnian responded, "Of course it’s the one with the van. Vans cost more than fifty thousand yuan, not just anyone could afford it."

Hongwei nodded. He thought he had understood something, but was unable to articulate it.

Tong Yao smiled, "Right? Don’t you also think that the one with the car would have a higher status? Though we look young, in business or anything else, people tend to underestimate us. But with a car, what would people think?"

Before they could respond, Tong Yao added, "They would certainly think we’re not to be taken lightly, which would open up more opportunities for us. Although it may seem a little ruthlessly pragmatic, that’s how it works in business, it’s all about appearing valuable."

Though there were indeed many self-made men and women, it wasn’t such a simple process. It involved steady and gradual accumulation, with no sudden jumps to wealth.

Their progress would be slow, despite potential for earnings.

Both Guo Jinnian and Hongwei understood the rationale behind Tong Yao’s proposition and couldn’t help but admire her.

Guo Jinnian swallowed hard, "Yaoyao, where do you get such audacity?"

To be honest, back at her hometown, she felt quite accomplished for a woman when she started making money. But her encounter with Tong Yao made her realize that she couldn’t even begin to compare herself against her.

The more they interacted, the more awed Guo Jinnian was.

Tong Yao was constantly surprising her.

It was hard to imagine the docile, needy woman they witnessed in front of Si Chen could have such audacious and ambitious plans, something most men wouldn’t even entertain.

At this point, most people would have settled for living off the compensation acquired from parental property.

Hongwei snapped out of his stupor. Hearing Tong Yao’s words had his blood pumping again. If Tong Yao, a woman, had such audacity, he, a man, couldn’t possibly stand by timidly.

With a snap decision, Hongwei nodded resolutely, "Alright then, let’s apply for a loan for the car purchase." 𝓃𝓸𝓋𝓅𝓾𝒷.𝒸ℴ𝓂

The saleswoman had been observing the trio’s expressions. Discussing such an important purchase decision privately among customers was fairly common. Them consenting and making decisions gave her confidence about the sale.

The saleswoman greeted the returning trio with a warm smile. Tong Yao handed her two hundred yuan to finalize the paperwork, agreeing to collect the car in two weeks.

She had thought the trio would consider further, but they seemed easily decided on the big-ticket purchase. This caused the saleswoman to beam uncontrollably and treat the trio like royalty.

Although Kyoto was home to many rich individuals, such purchases were rarely decided so quickly. The richer customers were often careful about their spending. Hence, seeing these three students-like individuals decide on buying a car is a first in her career.

Even though they had decided to purchase the car, both Hongwei and Guo Jinnian were still excited while Tong Yao remained calm.

After purchasing the land and building a house, along with the old family property, her total assets have already amounted to several million yuan. Hence a fifty-thousand-yuan car did not really faze her.

Thinking about Guo Jinnian’s housing issue, Tong Yao warned, "Jinnian, you should get your property deed as soon as possible. The longer the delay, the more disadvantageous it is for you."

Guo Jinnian also realized the gravity of the situation. But she was worried, "The Household Register is with my parents. It may not be easy to get it. Knowing my parents, they would certainly want the house to be under their names."

She knew her parents would attempt to claim her house. If she wasn’t injured, she could just snatch back the Household Register.

But now that her arm was injured, she wouldn’t be able to do that.

Tong Yao gave it a thought before suggesting, "Let me accompany you. Let’s sort this as quickly as possible before the landlord comes to Kyoto."

It would still be manageable for her to travel now that she wasn’t visibly pregnant. Although she couldn’t be of much assistance in a physical confrontation, she could definitely argue her way out of things.

Upon hearing Tong Yao’s decision to accompany Guo Jinnian, Hongwei added, "I don’t have much going on either, I’ll come too!"

He added, somewhat awkwardly, "However, I might not be very useful in a fight."
