Chapter 586: Chapter 586: When Did You Learn to Smoke?

Upon hearing Tong Yao’s words, Guo Jinnian was feeling like he was all hyped up, as if a new game had started, "Yaoyao, you said that. Hongwei will witness it. When we go back to Kyoto, I will take Uncle Tong and Aunt Wen as my godparents. You cannot back out."

Tong Yao laughed, "Do you still need to formally recognize them? You’re already the godmother of my baby, doesn’t that mean my parents are your parents?"

Guo Jinnian chuckled stupidly, "I guess I still can’t think straight, they’ve made me so mad."

However upset she was, Guo Jinnian reasoned for a while and finally made a decision, "Yaoyao, I’ve thought it over. Since we can’t think of anything better, let’s just sell the house! As long as they don’t get anything out of it, I’d rather donate everything."

We only paid three thousand yuan for the house when we bought it. She knew she would make much more money in the future, and if the house went to them, it would be the death of her.

Tong Yao nodded, "Selling it will be the best. If you plan to develop in Kyoto in the future, save some money and buy a house there. Even if it’s a bit out of the way, it has a much better appreciation potential than your house in this county."

According to her past life memory, the apartment prices here wouldn’t reach much more than a few hundred thousand yuan even by the 21st century. For small houses like Guo Jinnian’s, even if it was demolished by the government in the future, the compensation would be pretty low, and it wouldn’t have much room for appreciation. It would indeed be better to sell it and keep things simple.

If everything goes well with Aunt Hu, they can at least earn the smuggling money for a few more years. Each month, Guo Jinnian can make at least one thousand yuan. If Guo Jinnian saves that up for a year or two, even if she buys a house at the boundary between Kyoto and North City, the room for appreciation would be much greater than her current house.

Even if Guo Jinnian was not going to be a millionaire, it wouldn’t hurt to be a little bit rich.

Guo Jinnian subconsciously thought that Tong Yao knew how to manage money. She trusted Tong Yao’s judgment and agreed, "Okay, we’ll sell it. I’ll change the lock tomorrow, then we’ll both try to get the household registration back, and get the housing certificate."

Thinking about having to go clean that filthy house tomorrow, Guo Jinnian couldn’t help but feel sick.

Seeing that Guo Jinnian had made a decision, Gu Hongwei stood up, "You both should rest early. We have to get up early tomorrow."

Tong Yao nodded, after Gu Hongwei left, she went and cleaned herself in the bathroom and then went to bed first.

Guo Jinnian had a bit of insomnia that night and stayed up late. The things that happened in her childhood, all bad memories, flashed before her eyes. She eventually stopped thinking about them and fell deeply asleep till morning.

It is winter, and it’s a bit cold in the mornings. Guo Jinnian went with Tong Yao and Gu Hongwei for some Steamed Buns and rice porridge for breakfast. After finishing, Tong Yao went back to the inn to take a rest, and left the cleaning of the house to Gu Hongwei and Guo Jinnian.

Given that she was pregnant at the moment, she has a heightened sense of smell and simply can’t stand the smell in the house.

After Guo Jinnian returned home, she took out two pieces of cotton from a quilt and gave one to Gu Hongwei. Both of them plugged their noses and began to clean. While cleaning, Guo Jinnian was cursing her gambling addict father non-stop.

Gu Hongwei didn’t make a sound and just kept on working. He even took on the task of unclogging the sewage system. Even though he grew up in the countryside and frequently used rural toilets, when faced with these dirty excrements, Gu Hongwei couldn’t help but throw up after unclogging the toilet.

Guo Jinnian heard something and ran to the bathroom to check. Seeing Gu Hongwei with a dark face and retching, she laughed so hard while covering her belly, she was almost rolling on the floor with laughter, "Gu Hongwei, why do you react like a pregnant woman? When Tong Yao came over here, she just felt a bit nauseous at most. You are overreacting, especially considering that Tong Yao is a city dweller. HAHA... Oh."

Guo Jinnian laughed too hard and her cotton came out of her nostrils. The stench combined with the scent of vomit was intense. Guo Jinnian couldn’t help herself and threw up all the food she had eaten at noon.

She ate a lot naturally, so she also vomited a lot.

Gu Hongwei had just got a hold of himself, but after Guo Jinnian’s intrusion, he couldn’t help but retch again. As a result, both of them threw up until their stomachs were empty, before they finally managed to soothe their stomachs.

They both ran to the balcony to get some fresh air. After a while, Gu Hongwei said, "Why don’t you take a break! I’m going out for a bit."

Guo Jinnian thought Gu Hongwei wanted to escape, so she stopped him promptly, "Gu Hongwei, that’s not fair! I didn’t hold back when I was fighting for you, and now it’s your time to repay me. I am not the kind of person who doesn’t expect repayment for my kindness."

Gu Hongwei twitched the corner of his mouth and said with a frown, "I’m not leaving, I’m just going to buy some cigarettes downstairs."

Guo Jinnian looked at him suspiciously, "Since when did you start smoking?"

Gu Hongwei didn’t answer, he just passed her and left the house. After a while, he returned with some cigarettes, lit one in the room, and started smoking in front of Guo Jinnian without any hesitation.

The smell of the cigarette flooded the room and surprisingly, the stench was not so strong anymore.

Guo Jinnian looked Gu Hongwei up and down suspiciously, sneered and said, "Of all the things you could learn, you learnt to smoke. How come you’ve never smoked in front of Yaoyao, are you afraid she will scold you?"

Gu Hongwei closed his lips and said, "Yaoyao is pregnant. The smell of smoke is harmful to the fetus."

He paused, and added, "It’s not good for anyone if they inhale too much."

Upon hearing this, Guo Jinnian covered her mouth and nose quickly and kept a distance of two or three meters from Gu Hongwei, "Gu Hongwei, I knew you had ill intentions. If you know that the smell of smoke is harmful, why do you smoke in front of me? Do you want me to die?"

Gu Hongwei looked at Guo Jinnian’s exaggerated actions and explained with a frown, "I just said that excessive inhalation is not good. Inhaling a little bit won’t affect your lifespan. I smoked in the room to cover up the stench."

Guo Jinnian rolled her eyes, "Why didn’t you say so earlier?"

Both of them were busy cleaning up the room till noon. Only by then did they manage to clean the house thoroughly. Before leaving, they left all the windows open to air out the house.

After spending so much time in the house, she didn’t smell any foul odors, especially with the help of the cigarette smoke. But that didn’t mean there was no smell.

Watching her hard-earned first house, Guo Jinnian felt a bit reluctant. She sighed, "After cleaning up this house, I just can’t live in it. Just thinking about it makes me feel sick. We’ll stay in the hotel for the next few days until the housing certificate is done. Then we’ll go to Kyoto."

Gu Hongwei nodded and locked the door for her as he left. They then went to find Tong Yao at the inn. Once they arrived at the inn, they changed their clothes before going to eat.

In the afternoon, they went to the Housing Bureau and enquired about the process of obtaining a housing certificate. They learned that as long as they have a house purchasing receipt and residency registration, they could get their housing certificate. They were all quite happy, and hadn’t expected that obtaining a certificate would be so easy.

Tong Yao finally understood why there were so many incidents of relatives seizing property during this period. In an era where not all data has been digitized, there were always some villains taking shortcuts, aiming to get something for nothing.
