Chapter 624: Chapter 624: Has Han Enzhen Been Here?
The next morning, Si Chen and Gu Hongwei went to get the car, while Tong Yao stayed at home watching TV.
The road to the breeding farm was bumpy, and since Gu Hongwei was a novice driver, Si Chen wasn’t comfortable letting Tong Yao ride with him. Nor did Gu Hongwei dare to drive Tong Yao. Thus, Tong Yao could only laze around at home, sleeping in and watching TV for a while. Finding this somewhat boring, she went downstairs to help out at the tea shop.
Guo Miaomiao had been learning for a few days now and was already familiar with making milk tea. Seeing Tong Yao come down to help, she moved a stool for her. "Sister Yaoyao, you can sit down and rest. I can handle things."
The tea shop wasn’t busy at the moment. Tong Yao was just killing time and chit-chatting with Miaomiao. The weather was gloomy, looking like it would snow. Tong Yao felt cold, "Miaomiao, let’s have some milk tea. It’s so cold, drinking some milk tea will warm us up."
"Sure, Sister Yaoyao."
Guo Miaomiao obediently made two cups of milk tea. Although she was young, she was quite efficient at work. "Sister Yaoyao, I’ve heard it’s not good to consume too much sweet food during pregnancy. I didn’t add much sugar to this, try it."
Tong Yao didn’t expect Miaomiao to be so considerate. Taking a sip, she nodded, "It tastes just right. If you ever feel cold, have some milk tea to warm yourself up. Our milk tea is made with pure milk and no additives, so it’s okay to have more."
Guo Miaomiao giggled and nodded, "Sister Yaoyao, you are all so good to me, I’m feeling a bit embarrassed."
Tong Yao added, "Oh, by the way, I bought you a sweater yesterday. I’ll show it to you later to see if it fits."
Hearing this, Guo Miaomiao was both happy and a bit embarrassed. "Sister Yaoyao, how much did the clothes cost? I’ll pay you. When my third sister left, she left me one hundred yuan."
Tong Yao had already taken good care of her, and Guo Miaomiao felt a little awkward accepting more gifts. 𝙣𝒐𝙫𝙥𝙪𝙗.𝙘𝙤𝙢
But Tong Yao didn’t mind, "You don’t have to be so formal with me. Just treat me as your elder sister."
Guo Miaomiao was touched. She had never been treated so well, even by her own parents. She felt incredibly happy living in Kyoto, with good food and wages, and reasonable work hours. This was beyond her wildest dreams.
Just as they were chatting, a familiar voice suddenly asked, "Hello, is this... Yaoyao...?"
Halfway through the question, Han Enzhen suddenly stopped and looked at Tong Yao, who was sitting at the counter drinking milk tea, with surprise. She had intended to ask if this was Tong Yao’s place, but unexpectedly saw Tong Yao herself.
Tong Yao didn’t expect Han Enzhen to find her so quickly and was a little surprised. "Enzhen, you’re here. Take a seat and rest."
Then she turned to Guo Miaomiao, "Miaomiao, this is my friend Han Enzhen, could you make her a cup of milk tea too?"
"Sure."
Guo Miaomiao quickly made a cup of milk tea for Han Enzhen. Han Enzhen placed her oil painting on the table and took a sip of the milk tea, looking surprised.
"Yaoyao, did you open this milk tea shop?"
Tong Yao nodded with a smile, "Yes, I did."
Enzhen was shocked, "This is so coincidental. I’ve had milk tea here several times since I came back, but I never knew you were the proprietor."
With that said, she put her milk tea aside and laid the oil painting in front of Tong Yao. "Yaoyao, take a look at this."
Tong Yao raised her eyebrows and lifted the cloth covering the painting. She saw an oil painting and exclaimed, "Enzhen, did you paint this yourself? It’s beautiful."
The painting showed a young girl sitting at the bow of a boat surrounded by a pond full of lotus under the moonlight. It was very artistic. Tong Yao didn’t know much about oil paintings but she just thought this one was life-like and beautiful.
Guo Miaomiao also exclaimed in surprise, "Wow, this painting looks so beautiful."
Hearing their praise, Han Enzhen was delighted, "Yaoyao, I painted this a while back. Originally, I planned to paint a new one for you, but I wanted to see you today and didn’t have enough time, so I brought this one. You keep this one now and when your baby is born, I’ll paint a new one for you."
Tong Yao laughed, "I’ll gladly accept your kind offer."
"I’m glad you like it." Han Enzhen beamed, "Yaoyao, are you free next month? I’m opening an art exhibition then. Do you want to come over?"
Tong Yao hadn’t expected Han Enzhen to be holding an exhibition and replied, "If you’re hosting an exhibition, I’ll definitely make time. But next month, Ah Chen won’t be in Kyoto anymore, so I will have to go alone."
Han Enzhen nodded, "What about Jinnian and Hongwei? If they have time, they can also come."
"Hongwei should be free, but Jinnian has gone abroad for business, so I doubt he’ll be available. However, I can bring her sister." Tong Yao introduced Guo Miaomiao to Han Enzhen, "Miaomiao is Jinnian’s sister."
Han Enzhen was taken aback, "So she’s Jinnian’s sister. No wonder she looks a bit like Jinnian."
Hearing that Han Enzhen knew Guo Jinnian, Guo Miaomiao bashfully giggled.
Tong Yao sat with Han Enzhen in the tea shop for a while, then led her upstairs. They had lunch at Tong Yao’s place before Han Enzhen left.
When Si Chen returned in the afternoon, Tong Yao was taking a nap. Seeing the oil painting in the living room, he raised an eyebrow but didn’t utter a word. He gently pushed open the door and found Tong Yao was waking up.
Looking at Si Chen, Tong Yao rubbed her eyes and sat up, "You’re back?"
Si Chen nodded, "Do you want to sleep a little longer?"
Tong Yao shook her head, "No, if I sleep anymore, I won’t be able to sleep tonight."
Si Chen picked up Tong Yao’s coat and helped her put it on. He asked softly, "Did Han Enzhen come over?"
Tong Yao was surprised, "How did you know?"
Si Chen pinched Tong Yao’s cheek with a smile, "Her name is on the painting."
Only then did Tong Yao remember that Han Enzhen’s signature was on the painting. "Enzhen said she will gift us another painting after our baby is born. By the way, she’s going to hold an art exhibition next month. You should hang the painting up later! It’s beautiful, and I like it."
Si Chen nodded, "Have Miaomiao accompany you. I’m not comfortable with you going to crowded places alone."
Tong Yao agreed. After her nap, she was a bit hungry. Si Chen made her a bowl of malted milk, then hung Han Enzhen’s painting in the living room.
Tong Yao looked at the painting with a silly grin, "This painting suits our home’s decor perfectly."
Si Chen agreed with a nod and added, "Hongwei will stop by later to discuss the courier business with me. If you’re bored, you can watch TV on the couch."
It was surprising to Tong Yao that Si Chen was interested in this too. Remembering what Gu Hongwei had said about Si Chen giving some input on the project, she curiously asked, "Do you also think that the courier business is feasible?"
Si Chen agreed, "Considering the current economic development of Kyoto, Hongwei’s idea is indeed quite feasible."
