Chapter 626: Chapter 626: Where Did This Painting Come From?
Si Chen shook his head slightly, "Nothing."
Tong Yao didn’t think much of it until she went to the market with Si Chen to buy a vacuum packing machine. She discovered that it was impossible to find one in this era, most sellers didn’t even know about it.
Tong Yao felt uneasy, but Si Chen didn’t ask, so she pretended not to know and did not explain it.
The next afternoon, Si Chen called Fu Sen over to discuss some matters. As soon as they entered the room, Fu Sen’s attention was drawn to the painting hanging in the living room and his expression gradually turned frozen.
Tong Yao and Si Chen noticed his unusual behavior, even Gu Hongwei noticed that something was off with Fu Sen. The three exchanged glances but remained silent.
Fu Sen stared at the artist’s signature on the painting for a while, his hand slightly clenched into a fist, his eyes showed both anger and delight. However, he quickly adjusted his mood and turned his head to ask Tong Yao, "Miss Tong, may I venture to ask, where did this painting come from?"
He asked Tong Yao because he was certain that as the lady of the house, she must know the painting’s origins. Si Chen, being a man, would neither bring home a painting painted by another woman nor purchase such a feminine painting.
Tong Yao, unaware of Fu Sen’s intentions, simply officially answered: "A friend gave it."
Fu Sen’s eyes flashed as he continued to ask, "Is her name Han Enzhen?"
Tong Yao nodded, "Yes."
Since the painting bore a signature, Tong Yao was not surprised when Fu Sen mentioned Han Enzhen’s name.
However, she felt as though Fu Sen knew Han Enzhen. Although they were not very familiar with each other, they were business partners. She decided to ask outright, "Mr. Fu, are you acquainted with Enzhen?"
Fu Sen nodded, "To be frank, I do happen to know a young girl named Han Enzhen, but that was a few years ago. I cannot be certain if it’s the same person you’re friends with."
Despite what he said, Fu Sen was sure in his heart that the Enzhen he and Tong Yao knew was indeed the same person.
Tong Yao blinked, "Mr. Fu, the Miss Han you knew, wouldn’t by any chance also be an oil painter, would she?"
"Yes," Fu Sen replied, a bit absent-mindedly as he gazed at the oil painting. "Miss Tong, may I ask, is the Miss Han you know currently abroad or in the country?"
Tong Yao had been abroad before to see Si Chen and Fu Sen was aware of this. Now, he wasn’t sure where Tong Yao and Han Enzhen had met.
Tong Yao did not hide anything and told him the story of how she met Enzhen, "I met her abroad. There was a storm and heavy flood. She got trapped in her house and nearly drowned. Guo Jinnian and I saved her. After that, we came back to our country together."
Before Fu Sen could respond, Tong Yao added: "But, if Mr. Fu is looking for her, I won’t be able to help. After returning to the country, I only met her twice and I do not know where she currently lives."
Upon hearing that Enzhen was in the country, Fu Sen’s eyes flashed. He nodded and said, "Okay, let’s talk about the main issue!"
As long as Enzhen was in the country, he was confident that he could find her. So, at that moment, Fu Sen was not in a rush to find her.
Feeling a bit uneasy about Fu Sen’s reaction, Tong Yao asked, "Mr. Fu, do you and Enzhen have any issues?"
After all, Han Enzhen was her friend and Tong Yao did not want to cause her any trouble. If the two of them did have problems, then she would need to give Enzhen a heads up.
Fu Sen gave a light laugh, then asked meaningfully, "Does a romantic entanglement count as having a grudge?"
Upon hearing this, Tong Yao froze. She stared at Fu Sen in disbelief, never expecting that there was a romantic debt between Enzhen and Fu Sen.
Then again, considering Fu Sen could recognize Han Enzhen’s paintings at a glance, she must have captured his heart.
Understanding that this matter involved romance, Tong Yao didn’t press further. After sharing a glance with Si Chen, they sat down on the couch to discuss the cargo matters. Now that Tong Yao was pregnant, she did not want to stress too much. It ended up being the three men who were discuss the matters languidly.
Ever since he became aware of Guo Jinnian’s plans to travel abroad, Fu Sen has started a new front, which specializes in handling goods from E Country. The renovation is almost done and it’s ready to receive cargo as soon as Hu Haiyun returns.
However, he proposed that while dealing with other goods, the quantity of clothing should not decrease. As for how Tong Yao would bring more goods over, that was her problem.
Raising this issue indicated that there was a huge profit margin in clothing.
Having settled these matters, evening had already arrived. Fu Sen did not seem to have any intention of staying for dinner. He glanced at the painting hanging on the wall, his lips curling into a smile before he strode out the door.
Tong Yao felt a shiver down her spine from Fu Sen’s sinister smile. She worriedly asked Si Chen, "Ahchen, how well do you know Fu Sen? If he finds Enzhen, he wouldn’t do anything to trouble her, would he?"
Si Chen softly laughed, "Don’t worry. I’ve heard that Fu Sen had placed a personal advertisement abroad a few years ago searching for a girl. It’s undoubtedly Han Enzhen. After searching for several years, he found the person he’s been looking for, so he won’t give her any trouble."
Feeling relieved, Tong Yao realized that there was indeed a romantic entanglement between Fu Sen and Han Enzhen. However, she soon felt a sense of incongruity, "A few years ago, Enzhen was only around seventeen or eighteen, right?"
Si Chen nodded, "Hmm," he said before adding, "Fu Sen is only in his twenties now, he wasn’t old back then either."
Upon hearing this, Tong Yao started to imagine how it must have been for Fu Sen when he was young and ignorant, realizing too late the significance of something he had missed. Then, he was filled with regret and started looking for that person desperately.
This seemed like a plot straight out of a drama.
Tong Yao looked at Gu Hongwei beside her, a mischievous glint in her eyes, "Hongwei, you mentioned before that you wanted to visit Jinnian. You should prepare ahead of time. In a few days, Sister Hu will be back. She might rest for three or four days before she sets off again. If you really want to go, you need to hurry up and get your visa."
Gu Hongwei nodded, "I’ll go apply for it tomorrow."
Having stayed at home all day without going out, Tong Yao felt stifled. Taking advantage of the fact that Mrs. Zheng hadn’t finished cooking yet, she walked downstairs with Si Chen for a brief stroll.
Not long after they started their walk, she began to yawn. She hadn’t napped in the afternoon, so she was feeling sleepy already.
Si Chen, worried that she would go to bed as soon as she had dinner, gently reminded her, "Let’s take another walk after dinner before you go to bed."
Tong Yao nodded, and the two of them walked a little round on the street downstairs and then went back.
The new year was just next month, and the weather was getting colder, especially during the night. Any water spots on the ground turned into patches of ice. Each person’s breath was visible, which made the air feel even colder.
Given this weather, it was likely that a heavy snowfall was only a few days away.
The thought of having two lovely babies with her during the New Year put Tong Yao in a great mood.
