Chapter 674: Chapter 674: Five Years Later
Cheng Feng praised, "Although he took a detour in life, he essentially was a hero. He was the first person to focus on real estate, which clearly shows how keen his business sense was."
Though Zhao Wenkai had done many bad things, one could not deny his talent. He had seen Zhao Wenkai in the newspapers, and judged from his appearance, he matched perfectly with Wang Chun. They could be considered a talented and attractive couple.
Gu Hongwei nodded ambiguously and said, "Indeed, he was a talented individual. It is such a shame. His wrongdoings significantly impacted Wang Chun. I reckon that she would find it hard to overcome it all her life."
Cheng Feng’s gaze fell once again on Wang Chun who was quietly drawing. An unusual feeling emerged in his heart. He felt that Wang Chun was like the wind; elusive.
Following his gaze, Fu Sen used his lips to suggest, "If you admire her, go court her. Regardless of how good Zhao Wenkai’s relationship with Wang Chun was, he is now gone. All that was left for Wang Chun are memories. As a living being, you can’t compete with a dead person? You have a hundred thousand and a million chances to overtake Zhao Wenkai."
Cheng Feng was slightly embarrassed by Fu Sen’s straightforward words and said, "I just have a liking for Wang Chun as of now, I can’t say I’m in love yet. I don’t think it’s a good idea to make any moves before I am sure, otherwise, it would only end up hurting her twice."
From the first moment he laid eyes on Wang Chun, Cheng Feng felt a unique sensation in his heart. He yearned to protect her and see her smile.
Of course, Cheng Feng was a sober man. He knew that Wang Chun was now deeply wounded, and in his current state, he was not ready to intrude into her life.
Gu Hongwei agreed with Cheng Feng’s viewpoint. He believed that it would be better not to cause her any more pain until they were ready.
Fu Sen shook his head, "Obviously, you both have not tasted the bitterness of love. When you have figured everything out, things may not go as smoothly. Can’t you learn from my experiences?"
With these words, Fu Sen looked again towards Han Enzhen and said, "Speaking to people who have never experienced love is pointless. You two need to experience it for yourselves! I need to go and attend to Madam Han."
Fu Sen then moved towards the food area, grabbed some food and water, and delivered them to Han Enzhen. He did not disturb her but placed the items next to her so that she could drink when she was thirsty.
Cheng Feng followed his example and placed a bottle of water next to Wang Chun. Wang Chun noticed someone approaching, glanced sideways, and thanked Cheng Feng with a nod.
Cheng Feng felt his heart skip a beat, and he nodded back at Wang Chun.
Watching their actions, Gu Hongwei subconsciously looked in the direction of Guo Jinnian; he saw him helping Zhang Lijuan with her child. Guo Jinnian seemed to enjoy the company of kids, a softness flashed in Hongwei’s eyes.
...
Time passed like a stream, flowing slowly without any pause.
In the blink of an eye, five years had passed.
Five years seemed like a long time but also short. After years of hard work, Gu Hongwei’s courier business had successfully gone public and entered a period of strong, profitable growth. 𝔫𝔬𝖛𝖕𝔲𝖇.𝖈𝖔𝖒
Gu Hongwei had become the chairman of Hengtong Express. Tong Yao, though she held the most original shares, did not manage the company’s affairs. She was responsible only for distributing annual dividends, making her the proprietor in charge.
The domestic economy had made great strides in recent years. Due to various reasons, Guo Jinnian had returned from abroad earlier that year and completely gave up on his business.
Nevertheless, over the years, they had all earned quite a sum.
The bubble tea shop business was not going well. Tong Yao closed down all other branches and left only the one at her house. She handed it over to Deng Wenwen and Guo Miaomiao to run.
In the past five years, Deng Wenwen had matured into a sensible lady, and Guo Miaomiao had turned twenty-two, the age to get married.
During this time, Deng Wenwen was often troubled by matchmaking arrangements. She dared not go home as every time she did, her relatives and parents would urge her to consider blind dates. It gave Wenwen a headache.
She went to Tong Yao to vent her frustration, "Sister Yaoyao, I’m extremely annoyed. My mother has been constantly urging me to go on arranged dates lately. I don’t want to do that at all. I’m still young, in my early twenties. Why the rush? Even cousin Jinnian is not married yet at thirty, and she’s leading a happy life, isn’t she? My parents are just entrapped in the misconception that women must get married. They fail to understand the principle of ’better to go without than to accept inferior substitutes’. They now want me to go on blind dates. I feel so oppressed."
Thanks to Director Deng’s help, Wenwen had purchased a small flat in the suburbs using her savings and by taking a loan. The flat was not too large, about eighty square meters, but for her, it was quite decent.
Even if she didn’t get married in the future, she would still lead a comfortable life. She could not understand why her parents were so insistent on her getting married.
Tong Yao understood Deng Wenwen’s despair and suggested, "If it really gets unbearable, you can pretend to be complying with their wish and agree to meet the guys. Once you’ve met them, making any excuse to break it off should be easy. If you keep refusing to meet, your parents will certainly keep nagging at you. It might be better to just give in and meet the suitors."
Despite her own successful marriage, Tong Yao still believed that one should not rush into marriage. Only by marrying the right person can the married life be harmonious and happy.
Deng Wenwen sighed helplessly, "I guess I have no option but to do that. Sister Yaoyao, you don’t know, my parents have introduced a guy who works in a bank and is even a branch manager. He is a graduate from Kyoto University. Perhaps, I even know him. Maybe he has been to our tea shop before."
On hearing this, Tong Yao couldn’t help but burst into laughter, "That’s great! You might even fall for him, and then you both might start dating. You don’t have to rush into marriage, you can just date for a while?"
Deng Wenwen seemed to have thought of something and suddenly chuckled, "Sister Yaoyao, I’m going to tell you a secret that you must not disclose. A guy has been pursuing Miaomiao relentlessly. He shows up every day in our store for tea, and sits for an hour at a time, drinking two or three cups of tea until he’s stuffed."
Tong Yao’s curiosity was piqued, "What does the guy do? Is he handsome?"
Deng Wenwen shook her head, "Not handsome; he looks quite ordinary, He is twenty-five years old and a local from Kyoto. He seems to be in the design industry, but I’m not sure about the specifics. He certainly sounds learned when he talks."
"What is Miaomiao’s impression of him?" Tong Yao had watched Guo Miaomiao grow up and considered her a younger sister. Therefore, when she heard that someone was pursuing Miaomiao, she was quite curious.
"Miaomiao doesn’t show much interest in him. Whenever he costs, Miaomiao doesn’t say much." Deng Wenwen replied.
