Chapter 685: Chapter 685: Sister Jinnian Going on a Blind Date?
Tong Yao and Guo Jinnian were not in a hurry to return home. After buying clothes, they visited other shops. Tong Yao also bought a dress. To match their clothes, they went shopping for shoes as well.
Tong Yao chose two pairs of shoes for Guo Jinnian - one in black, and the other in white. Both pairs had thick heels and were comfortable to wear. For herself, she selected a pair of silver shoes with thin heels.
Guo Jinnian was surprised at Tong Yao’s choice of shoes.
"Yaoyao, how will you walk in these thin-heeled shoes? Thank goodness Dr. Si is tall, or else he’d be dwarfed by you wearing these. If I tried to wear these, I’d probably break the heel after a few steps. My feet would be ruined."
Tong Yao squinted and gave a playful smile, "I’ve never worn these kind of shoes before either, but they look very pretty. I thought I’d try it out. If our business keep growing, and one day we have to attend some gala, it won’t be appropriate to wear flats."
Guo Jinnian thought Tong Yao’s argument made a lot of sense, "Yaoyao, should I buy a high-heeled pair for practice? I feel that women who wear high heels have more feminine charm."
Tong Yao cautioned, "You’re used to stomping everywhere you walk. If you suddenly switch to these kind of shoes, you’ll definitely feel uncomfortable. Start with low, thick heels. Once you’ve adjusted, you can try high heels."
Guo Jinnian felt that made sense and complied, "Then I’ll start with the low-heeled ones. I’ll buy the high-heeled ones later."
Tong Yao advised, "Remember to carry some band-aids. These kind of shoes might cause blisters when worn for the first time."
Guo Jinnian grimaced upon hearing that advice. Talking about heels reminded her that wearing them did make her feel a tad more self-confident.
After buying shoes, they returned home together. Sister Zheng had already prepared lunch. Jian Jun was also there, so everyone gathered in the living room for a group meal.
Since Wen Yun spent a lot of time with Jian Jun at the Breeding Farm, and sympathized with his circumstances, she had a soft spot for him. She kept serving him food, "Jian Jun, eat up. Come by whenever you have time. Just specify what you want to eat, and I’ll have Sister Zheng prepare it for you. Treat this place like your own home. Don’t be so reserved. Here, have some more meat, it looks like you’ve thinned out a lot recently."
Jian Jun nodded his thanks, "Aunt Wen, you should have more meat too."
Tong Yaohui watched Jian Jun and chuckled, "In the blink of an eye, you’re in your twenties and it’s time to find a wife. Do you have a girl in mind? Your parents are longer around, and since we’re practically your elders, you should mention if there’s a girl you’re interested in. We’ll gladly help out. If you don’t mind, we can do the same thing for you like we did for Sanwa and Ajing, which is to organize your wedding."
A man’s wedding doesn’t really feel complete without the presence of an elder. That’s what Tong Yaohui and Wen Yun believe too. That’s why they helped when Liu Sanwa got married.
They never treated Jian Jun as an outsider. Seeing that it was about time for him to consider getting married, they started worrying about him as well.
Tong Yao remained silent, her lips curved in a smile. Guo Jinnian and Guo Miaomiao stole glance at Jian Jun, worrying that he might say he was interested in someone else.
Jian Jun blushed. He wanted to say he was interested in a girl, but worried that Tong Yaohui might probe further, which he wasn’t prepared for, as that specific girl was right there. He could only stutter and shake his head in denial, "Uncle Tong, I’m only in my twenties. I’m focusing on my career at the moment and haven’t been thinking about marriage yet."
Tong Yaohui didn’t think much of it and laughed, "You’re just like Hongwei, prioritizing your career above everything else. But you mustn’t copy him. Not every good girl is willing to wait many years for you. You could end up regretting it if you miss out on a chance."
Guo Jinnian’s youth was passing by swiftly. Before long, she was almost in her thirties. Hongwei had yet to express any intentions about marrying her, which caused them anxiety.
If only Hongwei were their son, they would have decided to get him married to Jinnian. It’d be a shame if they lost Jinnian, such a good girl.
Jian Jun assured, "No, I won’t make the girl I like wait many years."
A hint of mischief gleamed in Tong Yao’s eyes. She asked Sister Zheng, "Sister Zheng, how is Jinnian’s matchmaking going?"
Sister Zheng said, "As soon as you two are free, she can meet with the guy."
Jian Jun was surprised, "Sister Jinnian is getting a matchmaking arrangement?"
He considered Guo Jinnian and Gu Hongwei as a couple. If Guo Jinnian was getting matchmade, what would happen to Gu Hongwei?
Tong Yao replied, "Yeah, Sister Zheng found a nice guy. Jinnian is planning to meet him."
Jian Jun didn’t utter another word, but he was puzzled. Does Gu Hongwei know about this? Wouldn’t he feel bad knowing that Guo Jinnian was going on a matchmaking date?
Although Gu Hongwei was always busy, it was clear that he felt differently about Jinnian. This was why they assumed that Gu Hongwei and Guo Jinnian were a couple.
When Jinnian was overseas, Hongwei often visited her and took great care of her. He never expressed his feelings verbally, but his actions said it all. Jian Jun was curious why Hongwei never confessed his feelings to Jinnian.
But now, all of a sudden, Guo Jinnian was going on a matchmaking date. That was too abrupt.
Since Guo Jinnian and Tong Yao had known each other for a long time, they had mutual understanding. Jinnian knew that Tong Yao talked about it so that Jian Jun can relay the message. So, she helped hold the conversation, "I’m already of a certain age. My little sister is even of marriageable age now. I can’t possibly wait till she gets married while I’m still single, right? So, if I find a suitable one, I would like to check him out. Who knows, we might just hit it off."
Jian Jun: "..."
He decided to urgently inform Gu Hongwei about this in the afternoon.
Unaware of what Jian Jun was thinking, Wen Yun, who was observing that Jian Jun was no longer a young boy, said to Sister Zheng, "Sister Zheng, please introduce a suitable girl to Jian Jun if you come across one. He’s not that young anymore."
Jian Jun didn’t have his parents, and Wen Yun worried that nobody would consider his marriage matters.
"Alright." Sister Zheng didn’t think twice and promptly agreed.
Jian Jun subconsciously glanced at Guo Miaomiao. He wanted to decline the offer but gave it a little thought. Maybe Sister Zheng was only agreeing casually, so he didn’t protest.
Meanwhile, Guo Miaomiao was messed up with her feelings. She didn’t know why Jian Jun did not decline the offer. Was he actually interested in meeting girls?
Did he not feel anything for her?
Feeling a little uncomfortable, Guo Miaomiao remained silent, focusing on her meal without giving Jian Jun any looks.
Jian Jun noticed that Guo Miaomiao’s mood was off, but he wasn’t sure why. Did he say something wrong?
Everyone present had their own thoughts during the meal, guessing what the others were thinking.
