Chapter 687: Chapter 687: You Will Always be a Child
Guo Jinnian was feeling extremely uneasy, as if she had a thumbtack stuck in her rear, and couldn’t sit still.
Seeing this, Si Chen said to Tong Yao, "Come out with me, I need to go over this with you."
Tong Yao understood and immediately followed Si Chen. Coincidentally, they bumped into a nurse they knew who took the opportunity to greet them.
Si Chen just nodded lightly and led Tong Yao to his office.
It was almost time for his shift to end, there weren’t many patients left in the hospital. Si Chen casually closed the door behind him and quietly said, "It’s almost the end of my shift. Hongwei will stay tonight to take care of Jinnian. We should go home and bring some food and toiletries. She has to stay in the hospital for a few days until her wound stitches can be removed."
Tong Yao had already guessed that Guo Jinnian would need to be hospitalized for a few days. However, she was a bit surprised when Si Chen mentioned Hongwei would be taking care. She unconsciously asked, "Isn’t it inconvenient for Hongwei to take care of Jinnian at night? I mean he’s a man, isn’t it awkward when she needs to use the bathroom?"
Si Chen rubbed Tong Yao’s hair while he let out a soft chuckle. "Why are you suddenly so confused? They’re both grown-ups now. There’s no harm in them developing their relationship a bit more. Maybe this could be a good opportunity for them."
After Si Chen pointed this out, Tong Yao finally understood. She grumpily said, "I’m not a child anymore, so stop ruffling my hair."
Si Chen ruffled her hair again. "In my eyes, you’ll always be a child."
Just as Tong Yao was about to respond, they were interrupted by a knock on the door. It was a nurse asking about the medication for a cancer patient. Tong Yao stood silently as the nurse, who was new and had met Tong Yao for the first time, kept sneaking glances at Tong Yao while Si Chen was speaking.
It seemed like she was trying to guess Tong Yao’s identity.
Upon noticing this, Si Chen frowned and reminded the nurse, "Pay attention. This concerns the patient’s recovery process, and carelessness is not acceptable."
Si Chen was a serious individual when it came to work. He didn’t entertain small talk with the nurses like some other doctors. Although some people teased him for being aloof, others felt the seriousness he portrayed was what a doctor should encompass.
No matter the opinion, these thoughts were never expressed in front of Si Chen.
His reputation in the hospital now considerably surpassed other doctors. Everyone was very polite to him, including some senior doctors who were especially respectful.
Everyone has family and friends. You never know who might need a tumor treatment someday, and Si Chen’s expertise would be sought after. Furthermore, Si Chen was never one to gossip or show off, and he didn’t have any obvious traits that people would find irritating.
The young nurse’s eyes turned reddish when she was admonished by Si Chen. She nodded her head and dared not to drift her attention again. After she left, Tong Yao teasingly said, "Dr. Si, you are too harsh on the nurse when you’re working, aren’t you?"
Si Chen replied, "Not paying attention is an irresponsibility to the patient. A mistake made casually could bring about irreversible errors. It’s better to remind her now."
Tong Yao nodded sincerely and said, "I’m glad I’m not working as a nurse at your hospital, otherwise I’d be scolded every day."
Si Chen replied, "Your temperament isn’t suitable for nursing anyway."

Back in the ward, Guo Jinnian was so uncomfortable she could hardly make eye contact with Gu Hongwei. Normally she was so lively and dynamic that even she found it unnerving to be confined to a hospital bed.
"You should go! Yaoyao can take care of me. It’s not convenient for you, a man, to be here. Besides, isn’t your company busy? Now you’re a big boss, if people see you here and start gossiping, you might end up in a scandal." she said.
Gu Hongwei looked at her, "Since when did you start caring about these things?"
Before Guo Jinnian could reply, he continued, "Yaoyao needs to take care of the two kids at night, and she has to attend Enzhen’s one-month-old celebration tomorrow. How can she have time to take care of you?"
Guo Jinnian thought about it and agreed, "Then let Miaomiao come and take care of me. I’ve been so good to her, it’s about time she took care of her big sister."
Gu Hongwei calmly said, "Just focus on your surgery and don’t worry about these things. When Chen finishes his shift, he’ll surely bring Yaoyao with some toiletries over. Just rest and recuperate."
Seeing his determination to take care of her, Guo Jinnian was taken aback, "Where’s Yaoyao? Bring her in, I want to talk with her."
Before Gu Hongwei could reply, a nurse came over to take her for surgery. Before she entered the operating room, Guo Jinnian insisted on having Tong Yao present.
It would be inconvenient for her to use the restroom after the surgery, having Gu Hongwei here taking care of her would be more embarrassing than being killed in a single stroke.
Gu Hongwei didn’t say anything, he simply followed them to the entrance of the operating room. Upon seeing the nurse push Guo Jinnian into the room, he just stood by the door waiting.
When Tong Yao and Si Chen returned, they went to check on the ward first. Noticing no one was there, they guessed they might be in the operating room. When they went to check, they found Gu Hongwei waiting at the entrance anxiously.
"How long has Jinnian been inside?" Si Chen asked.
Gu Hongwei checked his watch and replied, "Ten minutes."
Si Chen said, "She’ll be out soon. Wait here. I’ll go back with Yaoyao to bring her some daily necessities. She has to stay in the hospital until her stitches are removed."
Gu Hongwei nodded, "Thank you."
Hearing him speak in the tone of a family member, Tong Yao and Si Chen exchanged looks. Tong Yao stifled a laugh and said, "Take good care of Jinnian, and make sure she doesn’t get out of bed. She usually disregards rules like a monkey. Be careful she doesn’t accidentally tear her wound. In the end, she’s the one who will suffer."
Gu Hongwei nodded in agreement.
Tong Yao and Si Chen went back home on their bikes. As soon as they arrived, they were immediately questioned by Tong Yaohui and Wen Yun.
"How’s Jinnian? Why didn’t she come back with you? Nothing serious happened, right?"
Si Yang and Tong Yue also crowed around and asked, "Mommy, how’s godmother doing?"
Tong Yao held her two children’s hands and shook her head to reassure them, "Don’t worry, Jinnian has acute appendicitis. She was in surgery when we left so she has to stay in the hospital for a few days. We came back to bring her some daily necessities."
When Si Yang and Tong Yue heard this, they both expressed their wish to visit Guo Jinnian.
Wen Yun and Tong Yaohui also said they wanted to visit, "We will have dinner now and then we can go and visit together, and bring some food for them."
Aunt Zheng chimed in, "Yes, I’ve made some bone soup as well. Let’s bring it over for her to replenish herself."
There was no other choice for now. Tong Yao said to Tong Yue, "Yueyue, go downstairs and ask Aunt Miaomiao to come up for dinner."
Upon hearing this, Tong Yue ran downstairs with exceptional speed as if her legs were motorized. Tong Yao laughed. She knew that Tong Yue loved to involve herself in these situations and was always quick to participate in anything exciting.
