Chapter 71: Chapter 71: Could it be, is it Possible?

Tong Yao blinked her eyes, "So...I misunderstood you?"

Somehow, her mood had lifted slightly, the corners of her mouth twitching up into a smile. Looking down, she noticed her hand was still in Si Chen’s hair, thankfully she had stopped pulling just in time.

"Yes," Si Chen responded simply, knowing that Tong Yao wanted to divorce due to misunderstanding, his aura was no longer icy, like early autumn weather, cool and calm, "In the future, if something is on your mind, you can ask me directly, don’t just speculate."

If these events hadn’t transpired today, she might still be planning their divorce.

At this thought, Si Chen’s jaw tightened again.

"Ugh! When I first heard the news, I was furious, barely able to retain my composure. Who would have thought it was a misunderstanding." With suspect number one cleared, Tong Yao was relieved the issue had been explained clearly.

This feeling... it’s as if you won the lottery, only to learn it belongs to someone else. However, after the despair, you find out it’s really yours.

Si Chen suppressed a laugh, the corners of his eyes twinkling with humor, "No more idea of divorcing?"

Tong Yao’s face turned slightly pink, she countered stubbornly, "Since it’s just a misunderstanding, my father would kill me if I still want to go through with the divorce!"

Si Chen fell silent for a moment, then said seriously: "Yaoyao, I know you hate arranged marriages, but we’re young. I’m patient enough to let things develop naturally until you feel comfortable. So, let’s not bring up the idea of divorce anymore."

A husband and wife are meant to be lifetime companions, only through harmony can a daily life be comforting.

Tong Yao’s heart was fluttering, it felt like her heartbeat was going to jump out of her throat, she was strangely excited despite Si Chen’s lack of romantic words.

That being said, Si Chen’s character is impeccable, his appearance suits her aesthetic, she is quite satisfied with him on all fronts, And he’s destined to become a big name.

Having this kind of man, who others daydream of having, as her husband, not fully exploring her options would feel like wasting an arrangement of divine matchmaking.

After looping this thought in her mind, Tong Yao quickly made a decision. She concealed her joy, and put on a knowing smile, "As long as the past is due to our misunderstanding, I am open to trying things out. But be forewarned, I plan to pursue a business career rather than settle for a nine-to-five job. You’d better prepare for this."

Si Chen nodded in agreement, but also shared his own viewpoint, "If a situation like today’s happens again, you must inform me immediately."

"Agreed." Tong Yao quickly accepted the condition, fearing Si Chen might change his mind.

Walking and talking, they unexpectedly made it back to the quarters. Tong Yao then realized that Si Chen had practically been carrying her for more than half an hour. Although she was rather slender, carrying her for so long must’ve been tiring, yet Si Chen never made a sound of complaint.

Feeling a sudden pang of guilt, Tong Yao struggled to get down, "Let me down, I can walk! If someone sees us, they’ll gossip about us again."

Upon hearing this, Si Chen bent down to let her off his back.

As soon as her feet touched the ground, Tong Yao hopped around to loosen her stiff limbs. The corners of Si Chen’s mouth curled upwards, "Does your leg not hurt anymore?"

"Ah?" Tong Yao was bewildered, she quickly lifted her right leg, and exaggerated, "Ouch! My leg was numb from you carrying me, and now it hurts again!"

Si Chen corrected her, "It was your left leg before."

Tong Yao: ...

This guy, he must’ve seen through her act and is teasing her on purpose.

She huffed in annoyance, stopped her act, and jogged into the quarters.

With a smirk playing on his lips, Si Chen followed quietly behind her.

By seven o’clock at night, life in the twenty-first century would be just beginning, yet, in the 80s, people would have tidied up and gone home. Wandering the corridors, you might occasionally hear voices or children’s cries from other houses.

When they got home, Tong Yao’s stomach growled in hunger. She suddenly remembered that she had skipped lunch and was starving. It was too late to cook a big meal, so they settled for a quick pot of noodles, filling the kitchen with a heavenly aroma.

Si Chen brought the noodles into their room. As there was no one in the corridor this late, Tong Yao left the door open for more fresh air. Just as they were halfway through their meal, there came footsteps at the entrance, and they looked up to see Li Nuanchun coming over with a smile on her face, holding a fan in her hand.

"So late to have dinner?"

"We got off work late," Tong Yao was not going to mention the police station visit and changed the subject immediately, "Sister-in-law, why aren’t you asleep yet?"

"It’s too hot and the mosquitos are bothering me, can’t sleep. I saw your door open and thought I’d check on you." The fan in their room was aimed at the door, Li Nuanchun felt a chill sweep over her, reluctant to leave, "Girl, you made the right choice buying this big fan, it’s like a typhoon in here. It was good that you didn’t listen to me and return it."

Remembering how she had advised Tong Yao not to buy an electric fan had made Li Nuanchun feel somewhat embarrassed.

She had bought her fan many years ago, even though it was energy-efficient, it was not powerful enough for more than one person. Naturally, Dai Liwen would get precedence since he needed to work, but she was left to suffer.

Ah! No wonder everyone envies Tong Yao, when one looks around the entire community, married or not, nobody lives a life as comfortable as Tong Yao’s.

She had thought that Tong Yao’s spending habits would lead to trouble. Yet the summer is almost over, and the young couple seems to be growing closer.

Being in good spirits, and remembering how Li Nuanchun had been helping with grocery shopping, Tong Yao decided to indulge her, "Yes, the wind is indeed strong, and, sister-in-law, you were simply looking out for us, it is true that it uses up a lot of electricity."

Li Nuanchun was pleased with her response, thinking Tong Yao knew how to appreciate help. She glanced at Tong Yao’s nearly empty noodle bowl, her eyes lit up, "Young girl, your appetite is splendid. Are you...?"

"Huh?" Tong Yao didn’t catch what Li Nuanchun was implying, she looked puzzled, "Are? What?"

Tong Yao didn’t notice, but Si Chen paused for a moment, locking his gaze on her noodle bowl.

"What else could it be!" Li Nuanchun was amused by Tong Yao’s innocent demeanor, "Of course, it means are you pregnant!"

"..."

Boom!!!

Tong Yao felt as though she had been struck by thunder, her face flushed red visible to the naked eye.

"Sister-in-law, don’t joke about that! I’ve only been here for half a month, it can’t happen that fast!"

Tong Yao and Si Chen hadn’t even shared a kiss; how could she be pregnant?!

She could probably imagine being pregnant with eargasms, Si Chen’s voice was indeed very pleasant.

When Li Nuanchun saw Tong Yao get flustered, she was even more amused, her fan fluttering in her hand as though she was performing a grand opera.

"You can’t tell if something’s happened in half a month, but your body would show symptoms! One of my relatives started morning sickness just over a week into her marriage."
