Chapter 880: Chapter 886: The Great War
"They came to visit me, pretending to offer thanks with gifts, but in reality, they wanted to test the effectiveness of the Purification Principle!"
Looking at Jiang Fengwu’s puzzled gaze, Li Zhirui explained, "Before I met with them, a sudden inspiration reminded me not to have any contact with them."
Combining the words that Jiang Fengwu had just repeated, it wasn’t hard to guess that they had discovered the marvelous use of the Purification Principle and wanted to come over to verify it. If it really was useful, then Li Zhirui’s situation would become terrible!
It was very likely that he would be taken away by them and from then on, become a prisoner without freedom, solely purifying Precious Pills for them, treating hidden injuries, and so on.
After all, if all this was verified, Li Zhirui would be seen as a rare treasure in their eyes!
"That won’t do, I must think of a solution, I cannot just sit here and wait for death!"
Pretending to be in seclusion and not meeting anyone was ultimately not a long-term strategy. He would have to leave seclusion one day, so a permanent solution was needed.
But what should he do?
The best solution would be to perform in front of all the cultivators, using ’fact’ to speak, and tell them that their guesses were false and the Purification Principle wasn’t so powerful.
However, just as Li Zhirui was preparing to set out to propagate this message, the Sea Clan suddenly made their move!
Boom, boom, boom—
The urgent ringing of bells echoed across the islands, and all cultivators became anxious because once the war broke out, there would undoubtedly be deaths, and not just a few!
Li Zhirui looked into the distance and saw a vast army roaming above the sea, their numbers incredibly large, so vast that he couldn’t see the boundaries at a glance.
"No wonder the Sea Clan hasn’t acted until now; they were gathering a large army," Li Zhirui said with a heavy expression.
The strength disparity between the two sides wasn’t significant to begin with; it was only that the cultivators had the advantage of favorable terrain. Now, with the addition of so many Water Devils, the combat power suddenly became unbalanced!
The upcoming battle was going to be tough for the cultivators. Li Zhirui was deeply worried, especially since Wanxian Island lay just beyond the chain of islands!
"Distribute Talismans and Heavenly Thunder Pearls, along with other single-use Spiritual Objects to our people, and have everyone prepare for the grand battle!" Li Zhirui’s voice echoed in the skies above Li Family Island.
Not just the Li family, all cultivators brought out their strengths, for everyone knew that this would be a perilous battle. If anyone thought of holding back their strength, they were likely to die in the conflict!
In the midst of the Sea Clan army.
"Impossible! Why are there no reactions from the Gu Insects I raised?" cried out a Fifth-order Great Devil in panic.
Those Gu Insects were nurtured by it with immense effort and energy; Nascent Soul Cultivators couldn’t even detect them!
Once activated, they would absorb Mana and blood, while also releasing toxins. Low Rank creatures had no resistance, and High Rank creatures would have difficulty exterminating all the Gu Insects quickly, eventually suffering severe injuries.
Moreover, since the Gu Insects were tiny, concentrating one’s spirit was necessary to find them. Thus, to clear the Gu Insects meant one could not participate in the war.
This was why they had secured ample support—the Sea Clan wanted to achieve a decisive victory in one fell swoop and break through the defensive line.
But now, its Gu Insects had already been dealt with! It was impossible to easily win this battle.
The commotion instantly caught the attention of other Great Devils, who gathered around.
"The cultivators of the Central Plains are not skilled in these underhanded tactics, so why were the Gu Insects resolved so quickly?"
"What’s the point of discussing this now?"
The Great Devil was at a loss for words.
"Should we retreat for now?"
"The arrow is on the string; it must fly! If we retreat now, it will severely undermine the morale of our troops!"
The leading Jiao Xu said in a deep voice, "With such a massive amount of support, even if the Gu Insects fail, we shall not lose!"
"Kill!"
As they discussed, the Sea Clan’s army had already engaged with the cultivators; there was no need for high-ranking orders on either side as a fierce battle erupted.
The Li family was no longer the target of the Sea Clan, but several Great Devils still led their troops to the charge.
Li Zhirui, Jiang Fengwu, Xiaoqing, and Cang flew out of the formation to meet the challenge, while Da Qing reinforced the formation and also provided them with defenses.
Leading the assault was a Monohorn Behemoth as large as a mountain, its giant eyes fixated on Li Zhirui.
With a roar, the surrounding sea trembled, countless waters soaring into the sky, turning into a vast expanse of dark ocean, crashing down on Li Zhirui with the force of ten thousand jun.
Among the Devil Race, the larger the Devil Beast, the more profound their mana. The Monohorn Behemoth was a standout among them!
Li Zhirui showed no fear. His spells constantly cast, the Wood Spirit Energy within a hundred miles rapidly converged, and specks of green light accumulated, eventually forming a mere thirty-foot-tall dead tree.
The withered wood flew out, piercing directly into the dark ocean, and a terrifying suction force suddenly erupted, wildly extracting the moisture and mana from the ocean.
The once thirty-foot-tall withered wood instantaneously transformed into a giant wood a hundred feet high, towering over the Boundless Sea.
Swoosh!
At the thought of Li Zhirui, leaves plummeted down, shooting rapidly towards the Behemoth.
Boom, boom, boom!
Yet all were blocked by a thick curtain of water, the seemingly ordinary leaves setting off a series of explosions.
A glint flashed in Li Zhirui’s eyes. He was not disheartened by the ineffectiveness of the attack. His fingers suddenly changed, and vines sprouted out of thin air. Each was ten feet thick, intertwining with each other to form a massive cage, trapping both sides within.
The Monohorn Behemoth’s expression darkened; it had been caught in a trap unwittingly! It must escape quickly!
Its head’s single horn began to emit Thunder Light, terrifying thunder brewing within. The next instant, a vast thunderbolt shot forth, blasting a huge hole in the cage of vines.
But before the Behemoth could rejoice, the vines quickly healed.
"Water nourishes wood, on this vast ocean it benefits you, but it benefits me even more!" came Li Zhirui’s crisp voice.
"If that’s the case, then I’ll just have to deal with you first!" The Behemoth stirred up another vast ocean, using mana to transform it into a gigantic iceberg, crashing towards Li Zhirui with a force that seemed to tear everything asunder.
Li Zhirui’s expression tensed; his mana poured forth, and he commanded the Sky-reaching Giant Wood to clash violently with the iceberg.
Thunderous roars—
A colossal rumble sounded, water surged backward, vapor filling the sky.
But the last one standing unyielded was the Giant Wood! Its momentum unabated, it barrelled straight towards the Behemoth.
Spurt!
The Behemoth tried to dodge, but the entwining vines gave it no chance to escape, binding it firmly in place. The Giant Wood smashed brutally into its body.
A massive wound appeared on the Behemoth, blood gushing forth, a piteous wail sounding as it tried to flee.
"Thinking of escaping now? It’s too late!"
Around Li Zhirui, specks of green light flew out, turning into countless sharp wooden spikes, densely suspended in the air, with as many as ten thousand of them.
