Chapter 112: Chapter 112: The Damned Desire to Win

Chapter 112 -112: The Damned Desire to Win

Hearing about grenade throwing, Cheng Yang and Chen Lang got energized — they had been secretly practicing this for a while.

After exchanging a look, they each grabbed a grenade and threw it at their opponents.

Indeed, the aim was precise. Cheng Yang’s first grenade landed directly on the head of the opposing leader, who probably never expected such a simple, embarrassing, and unexpected death. With a loud boom, the leader fell to the ground, his face filled with disbelief.

Chen Lang was not to be outdone and threw three grenades in succession, each achieving a hit.

From the moment their leader fell, these people were thrown into disarray — some charged forward, some retreated, some fled. With the grenades exploding one after another, they were as chaotic as headless flies.

Lu Ruisheng signaled to everyone and shouted, “Surround them.”

Soon, Gu Pan and her group charged to the vicinity of these people and surrounded them — twelve were still alive.

These people had lost the will to fight and surrendered their weapons without resistance.

Lu Ruisheng instructed Feng Zhekai and his wife to stand guard and watch their surroundings to prevent any reinforcements or opportunists.

Then he had Cheng Yang and Chen Lang guard the captives with their guns to prevent any desperate attempts from them.

He and Gu Pan started checking the bodies of the deceased and at the same time searched them for weapons and supplies.

They quickly collected all the weapons; the surrendering group voluntarily handed over theirs.

After completing these tasks, Gu Pan instructed Feng Zhekai to bring Cheng Yang and the others to move the weapons back to the vehicle and she interrogated the captured people about the location of their main base.

Once the weapons were loaded into the vehicle and the tire was replaced, Gu Pan brought two people to guide them directly to their main base.

The rest were tied to electrical poles at the roadside; their fate would be left to chance.

Upon reaching the base, only two guards were left on duty, and Lu Ruisheng swiftly took care of them by himself.

Then he left Feng Zhekai and Lu Xuerong to stand guard at the entrance while the rest went in and saw a room filled with supplies. The look of surprise was unmistakable on their faces.

Twenty bags of rice, eight bags of flour, various condiments, medicines, and household items — all very comprehensive. It seemed this team had been living quite comfortably.

It made sense, a group of over thirty people with submachine guns — if they hadn’t encountered their more professional team, they’d probably have had no rivals in this area.

Unfortunately for them, they had run into Lu Ruisheng and his team. They were the reason this had happened; after all, it was them who had blocked the road.

Gu Pan and her teammates loaded the supplies into the vehicle and happily headed back with their haul.

The supplies were stored in the secret tunnel, and the vehicle was hidden well.

This style of combat was what Lu Ruisheng always advocated. They were few, but well-equipped, especially since ordinary citizens of Huaxia Country were not allowed to carry guns, which meant civilian firearms were extremely rare.

Most military weapons were taken away during evacuations. What was left — a few in police stations — were not enough for the many, making them hard to come by.

The only thing they had to be cautious of was former police and soldiers forming armed groups, as those teams might be more formidable. However, the majority of the military personnel in Huaxia were just and righteous, so even in the apocalypse, crimes of looting and murder were rare. This was a trait deep in their bones, so the chances of encountering them were slim. If they did come face to face, the team was not overly worried. Their best skill was escaping — Gu Pan had said that life was most important, and with it came everything else. So they had honed their skills in escape, facilitated by smoke bombs and shock bombs, making escaping not too difficult.

They also had submachine guns and explosive weapons; they still held an advantage even against equally strong opponents. Moreover, a military team formed of regular soldiers wouldn’t match up to Lu Ruisheng’s special forces team.

This confidence despite their small numbers stemmed from the fact that each battle was practice, each experience enabling them to grow faster.

Now, they had formed a good relationship with the Inner Circle, staying out of each other’s way.

Thus, there was no need for full secrecy; they used hand carts to bring back part of their weapons and supplies to the villa area. Sometimes, showing a bit of strength served as a deterrent.

The guards saw that their cart had guns and food; they knew there had been a fight. But judging by these few people’s unscathed appearance, they recognized their strength and said nothing more.

After returning, they went to Cheng Yang’s place to distribute the supplies.

Chen Shaonan and his group, seeing them return with these items, hurried to check for injuries.

Seeing that everyone was unharmed, showing no signs of wounds and smiling broadly, they finally felt at ease.

Sitting down, Gu Pan briefly explained the day’s events to Chen Shaonan and Duan Shumei.

However, Cheng Yang and Chen Lang weren’t satisfied with Gu Pan’s oversimplified account. They kept interjecting, especially keen on highlighting their accuracy with the grenades, but without directly praising themselves. So, they shifted the focus onto their grenade handling.

Finally, after Cheng Yang and Chen Lang’s third hint, Gu Pan brought up their performance for the day, “The biggest contributors today were Cheng Yang and Chen Lang. Their grenade throwing was spot-on, especially the one that hit the enemy leader directly on the head, which threw the enemy into confusion. That’s how we secured an easy victory. They deserve to be commended.”

Cheng Yang said with pride, “Chen Lang and I have been practicing extra hard recently. We felt we lacked innate talent, so we had to make up for it with diligence. Diligence can compensate for dumbness, and we will continue to work harder.”

Chen Lang quickly added, “We may not have the talent like Fang Lanlan, but we have an iron will.”

Gu Pan and the rest couldn’t hold back their laughter. Ever since those two started sharing a room, their thought processes became increasingly strange.

Yet, everyone had seen their progress.

Afterward, Lu Ruisheng summarized that day’s conflict, suggesting to maintain the strengths while correcting the weaknesses promptly.

Finally, it was time to divide the spoils. Weapons and ammunition were distributed based on individual expertise, food was allocated per capita, and other supplies were given priority to the women — after all, things like toilet paper and toiletries were indeed needed more by the ladies.

After the division, everyone was excited. The battle had been so satisfying that nobody felt sleepy, and they kept wanting to talk more about the day’s events.

They chatted for a while longer until daylight broke, after which everyone went to their own homes.

Once home, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng took a shower in the Space, then fell asleep there.

They slept right through to three o’clock in the afternoon.

Since it was the hottest part of the day, they stayed in, with Gu Pan researching food in the comfort of an air conditioning fan.

After all, cooking was not easy in these times. You had to create tasty dishes using only the supplies everyone knew about, ensure balanced nutrition, and make sure the food didn’t spoil quickly due to the high temperatures. Considering all these factors was certainly not a simple task.

She realized that after the apocalypse, her cooking skills had significantly improved.
