Chapter 97: Chapter 97 Changes

Chapter 97 -97 Changes

Lin Feifei knew her grandfather was right; when she had seen those armed people robbing their supplies just before, she thought she was going to die and was genuinely scared. Yet accustomed to a good life, she subconsciously resisted when thrust into this situation.

She explained to Old Master Lin, “Grandpa, I know, it’s just that I’m not used to this.”

By then, Lin Mengmeng had already started helping Lin Ran and his wife tidy up the house.

Old Master Lin originally wanted to say more, but after opening his mouth and closing it again, after a moment, he said to Lin Ran, “Lin Ran, if you still want to stay behind, then properly teach your daughter. She’s been spoiled by you. The apocalypse is here, and you need to make her understand how to survive it.”

As Lin Ran was about to say something, his wife, Song Yiru, said to Old Master Lin, “Dad, we know, but Feifei needs time to adapt, doesn’t she?”

Old Master Lin grasped his chest, “How long has the apocalypse been going on? Still adapting? We’re about to die. None of you will survive like this.”

His face turned pale, and his lips began to tremble. His son’s temperament wasn’t like his but rather like his deceased wife. His daughter-in-law came from a wealthy family, an only child, pampered since birth. During peaceful times, they lived well, and her dowry included several shops that the Lin family’s younger son managed, giving them dividends every year, sufficient for his son’s family to live a luxurious life.

But now it was the apocalypse, and they had no survival skills whatsoever. Old Master Lin was almost driven to despair. What could he do? After experiencing those events, they still couldn’t grow up quickly; there really was no way.

Lin Mengmeng hurried to support Old Master Lin, “Grandpa, please sit down. Don’t get agitated; your heart isn’t good.”

After sitting down, fatigue covered Old Master Lin’s face as he said to Lin Mengmeng, “Help me to Yuan Jiang’s place through the back door. I’m too tired and want to lie down.”

Since their place wasn’t tidied up yet, there was no place to rest.

Lin Mengmeng quickly agreed, “Okay.” After speaking, she helped Old Master Lin up and walked towards the door.

Lin Feifei suddenly caught up, “Grandpa, I’ll go too.”

Old Master Lin waved his hand at her, “You help your parents clean up the house. Everyone has left, who will clean up? Also, I want some peace, I can’t rest with you following me.”

After speaking, he patted Lin Mengmeng’s arm, “Let’s go.”

Lin Mengmeng escorted Old Master Lin outside.

Lin Feifei grabbed Lin Mengmeng’s clothes in a burst, “Lin Mengmeng, you always play the good person. Did you badmouth me to Grandpa behind my back again?”

Lin Mengmeng took a deep breath, “Lin Feifei, can’t you stop it? Look at the time, Grandpa is like this, can’t you be a bit more sensible?”

Lin Feifei, as if her tail was stepped on, retorted, “Lin Mengmeng, what do you mean? Do I need your lectures? Acting all high and mighty, pretending to be wise everywhere; you’re just a fake white lotus…”

“Lin Feifei, shut your mouth,” Old Master Lin was truly furious, veins bulging on his forehead. He turned around and slapped Lin Feifei across the face, “Never speak such nonsense again.”

Lin Mengmeng clenched her fist, supporting Old Master Lin as they walked out. She had made a decision; she no longer wanted to follow the Lin Feifei’s family. These people simply didn’t know how to survive post-apocalypse. She wanted to form an alliance with Yuan Jiang. Gu Pan was right; everyone must find a suitable way to survive. If others didn’t accept outsiders, she couldn’t force them, but following Lin Feifei and her family would only get her killed sooner or later. She had actually planned to discuss this matter with Yuan Jiang in the coming days, but before she could, such a big issue had arisen.

Lin Feifei, covering her face where her grandfather had hit her, watched them leave with resentment. Yet, she dared not confront her grandfather, so she ran to her mother, Song Yiru. “Mom, you see, Grandpa is just bewitched by that little bitch Lin Mengmeng. We support them, yet they talk like this about us. Why?”

Song Yiru felt angry too. She loved her daughter, but she knew her father-in-law was right. After the apocalypse, and from what had just happened, she realized Lin Feifei would indeed struggle to survive if things continued this way.

But she had only this one daughter, and she really couldn’t bear to see her child suffer. She held Lin Feifei’s hand. “Feifei, your grandpa might be strict, but you really need to grow up. Your dad is too soft, and previously, with your maternal grandparents protecting us, and with plenty of money, we spoiled you. But now things are different; it’s the apocalypse. You have to grow up. My health isn’t good, and who knows what might happen to me tomorrow? How could I be at peace if you continue like this?”

“Mom, please don’t talk like that. Dad and I will definitely find you medicine. You will live to a ripe old age,” Lin Feifei heavily relied on her mother, just like she did on her affluent maternal grandparents because she was their only granddaughter, and they doted on her excessively, which was why she held a higher status than Lin Mengmeng.

Lin Mengmeng’s maternal family was just ordinary civil servants, while Lin Feifei’s maternal family was wealthy and powerful, so she was used to everyone treating her like a little princess.

Lin Ran looked at the messy room, frowning and said, “Let’s clean up quickly. We need to learn to live a more frugal life from now on.”

Song Yiru frowned as she got up to tidy. Before the apocalypse, her hands never touched water, and she disliked doing chores, but now there was no choice.

Lin Feifei had no choice but to help with the chores, although she didn’t want to.

At that moment, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng, carrying a walkie-talkie, entered the Space and ate something.

While eating, Lu Ruisheng analyzed the situation for others. “They should have around thirty people, no elderly or children, probably an organization. The people they sent out look a bit intimidating in their attire, but their skills are mediocre, which proves not all in their group are elites. So, in a head-on clash, we might not be at a disadvantage. They don’t murder, which suggests they haven’t killed much and probably don’t fight much either. Thus, altogether, they aren’t as scary as they seem. We don’t need to be too nervous.”

Hearing her husband’s analysis, Gu Pan felt somewhat relieved. “Coming here to claim territory, they must have unexpectedly obtained quite a bit of supplies, so they want stability.”

“That’s likely, so don’t worry too much. We can manage to stay low for a month before heading to the base.”

“Right, but we still need to be fully prepared, continue looking for a new spot to settle.”

“Absolutely, let’s eat quickly. Once we’re done, we’ll take turns resting.”

“Okay.”

After eating, the two took turns sleeping in the Space, feeling more secure there. Since they had the walkie-talkie, they could be informed of any issues.

Their four families took turns keeping watch, with them taking the last shift. They set an alarm, so they weren’t worried.

Since those people had just claimed the Inner Circle, it was likely they were just trying to intimidate the Outer Circle; they wouldn’t act immediately, so there was no need for excessive worry.

They needed a good day’s sleep because they had to go out at night to find a suitable spot to settle, then consider whether they needed to move some of their food supply as well.

They also had quite a bit of supplies in their villa that they needed to take out and hide to avoid detection by the newcomers, which could lead to unnecessary trouble.
