Chapter 99: Chapter 99: Fight

Chapter 99 -99: Fight

This was something Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng hadn’t anticipated; the people from the Inner Circle seemed very experienced. Fearing that those from the periphery might flee, using a registration method was indeed a smart idea.

They weren’t inclined to start a war at the moment, only wishing to survive, so Lu Ruisheng went downstairs to hold off those people while Gu Pan stored away the supplies they were afraid to be seen by outsiders in her Space, then communicated with the other three households over the walkie-talkie, “Hurry up and hide your things, the people from the Inner Circle are coming out to investigate.”

Since the house of Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng was at the very edge, judging by the timing, these people were starting their investigation from their side, meaning Gu Pan’s home would be the first one inspected. Therefore, she quickly informed everyone of the situation, then also placed the walkie-talkie in her Space, and went downstairs.

In the living room on the first floor, a burly man followed by two slightly leaner lackeys, was conversing with Lu Ruisheng.

The burly man’s eyes practically popped out of his head when he saw Gu Pan. After the apocalypse, although women weren’t scarce, most were dark and thin, making even the pretty ones seem unappealing.

But the woman in front of him was different; not only was she beautiful, but she was also clean, voluptuous, and fair-skinned. Having seen too many women of the apocalypse, he couldn’t help but swallow his saliva at the sight of her.

Lu Ruisheng felt the man’s gaze and stepped in front of him, “There’s just me and my wife in our house. We’ll pay the protection fees as early as possible. Is there anything else?”

The burly man, with dark skin and coarse hair, appeared somewhat fierce. He reached out to push Lu Ruisheng aside, “Step aside.”

But he couldn’t budge Lu Ruisheng, who caught his wrist, “Show some respect.”

The burly man, thinking he had been careless, was very angry this time. He clenched his other fist and aimed for Lu Ruisheng’s face.

Unexpectedly, he didn’t anticipate his opponent’s agility; his wrist was caught and with a snap backward, the sound of dislocated bones could be heard.

The burly man yelled at his two lackeys, “Take them out.” He wasn’t afraid at all because what use was being skilled, when he had backup, guns, and an organization.

Only now did the lackeys react and reach for their guns. They hadn’t felt any sense of danger before, as this was their turf, so they had been relaxed.

Gu Pan raised her hand, and before the lackeys could even load their guns, her crossbow bolt had already pierced the arm of one holding a gun.

The other lackey had his arm broken by Lu Ruisheng.

Both lackeys howled in pain.

Sweat began to form on the forehead of the burly man; he had underestimated the couple’s capability. Yet, he kept his cool, “Our boss has already taken over this place. Kill us and you won’t be able to get out alive either.”

Gu Pan laughed, “Trading our two for your three isn’t a loss for us.”

Hearing this, the two lackeys became terrified, their legs trembling, “Are you really going to kill us?”

The burly man shouted at them, “Shut up, don’t listen to them.” He was aware that these two were not simple and couldn’t let his men get lured by their words; if their people outside noticed the situation, there was a chance for him to be rescued.

Sure enough, mid-conversation, a man in his thirties entered the doorway, “Why is this taking so long to handle? Hurry up and move on to the next house…”

Before he could finish speaking, seeing the scene inside from the open door, he turned to shout outside, “Xiao Kui, go find the boss, we’ve run into trouble here.”

Having said that, he too ran out.

Gu Pan didn’t chase after him, because there were already people outside sending word, and catching up with this person wouldn’t be of much significance. She looked at Lu Ruisheng, “Looks like we have to face it.”

Lu Ruisheng, with no other option, said, “Then let’s talk with their boss.”

Gu Pan took out the walkie-talkie and directed to the three neighboring households, “Get ready for battle. There’s a situation here, don’t come over. We’re not in danger. At the positions we’ve set up before, mount the machine guns. Make sure you protect yourselves, put on bulletproof vests, helmets, and blast shields.”

The mention of machine guns made the strongmen’s eyes widen. Machine guns? They didn’t have machine guns either.

But soon after, the strongman realized and said, “You must be bluffing us, right? Little tricks. If you had such good weapons, wouldn’t you have occupied a good position in the Inner Circle earlier?”

Gu Pan smiled, “Do you think everyone likes to plunder and war?”

Still not believing, the strongman said, “Just brag for now. When our boss comes later, I’ll see if you can still be so arrogant.”

Lu Ruisheng snapped, breaking the strongman’s other arm too, “A mouth in debt is quite annoying, you know?”

The strongman wasn’t prepared this time, and the double pain was indeed too much to bear. He cried out in pain, “Ah, it hurts, it’s killing me…”

Before he could finish crying out, Lu Ruisheng stuffed a rag from the table into the strongman’s mouth, “Enough noise.”

Gu Pan laughed; her man was indeed domineering.

The two weren’t in a hurry; they tied up the three men and dumped them by the door. Then each put on a bulletproof vest and helmet. After that, they took out submachine guns, loaded them, and placed the guns by their side. They then sat on the sofa, discussing defense and combat strategies through the walkie-talkie with their own people in an orderly, calm fashion, showing absolutely no fear.

Seeing that they actually had submachine guns, the three men began to believe they might indeed have machine guns, or even more weapons. They were truly baffled but couldn’t send out the message now; they could only wait here for the boss to come and negotiate.

Of course, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng knew very well that even if it came to a real fight, they wouldn’t be worried. Their people were now like a special forces squad; though they might be less physically fit, their equipment and strategy were certainly not comparable to an average small organization. Not to mention, with grenades, they could easily flatten them. They didn’t take the opponents seriously, especially now that they were prepared.

Before long, footsteps were heard outside the door.

Lu Ruisheng’s ears twitched slightly, and he gestured to Gu Pan; there were probably about ten people.

Gu Pan acknowledged the information from her husband with a nod.

A man in his thirties walked in, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, a white shirt, and dress pants, and standing about 1.8 meters tall. At the door, he gestured to the ten people behind him; they didn’t come in but spread to both sides, guarding the entrance.

Gu Pan looked at this man and felt that he exuded a strong business aura, somewhat reminiscent of the big CEOs from the rumors.

Of course, when the gold-rimmed glasses man saw Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng, a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes. These two showed none of the awkwardness of the apocalypse; they were as spirited as people before the apocalypse, and their eyes were sharp, clearly not ordinary people. Moreover, both were very good-looking, a perfect match of talent and beauty.

However, when he saw the submachine guns next to them, a flicker of panic crossed his eyes. They actually had such weapons?

He pushed up his glasses, concealing the emotions he had just experienced, and looked at Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng, “Why didn’t you take a position in the Inner Circle before us when you had the ability?”
