Chapter 16 - Elite knight
The enemy's sword struck his with imposing force that threatened to disarm and bisect him. That was what would have happened, had Lucien's sword mastery not been level four. As luck would have it, Lucien's sword mastery was level 4 and he had comprehended momentum.
He sensed the momentum behind the strike and angled his sword to flow along with it. His recently strengthened agility came in handy, allowing Lucien's body to follow his intention. His body was launched back gracefully as he spun in the air and dissolved the strike's momentum.
He landed on his feet stably and turned his sword toward the opponent. His opponent on the other hand had a stunned expression of disbelief;
"Impossible. You are supposed to be a crippled disgrace." He couldn't believe it.
Out of his normal caution, he had set down his pride as an elite knight and sneak attacked Lucien.
He hadn't wanted anything to go wrong, so he aimed to swiftly finish the two of them quickly and efficiently, who would have thought that Lucien would be able to block his attack. Lucien on the on the other hand observed his foe.
Lucien's eyes narrowed as he studied the man. Tall and wiry, the knight wore light metallic armor designed for speed. Unlike his comrades who favored heavy broadswords, this one gripped a longsword, lean and sharp.
With a quiet command, Lucien activated his appraisal.

The guy was an elite knight, no wonder he had managed to catch up to them. Lucien could hear the sounds of boots of more knights chasing them. He needed to finish this quick.
He decisively spent 500 gold coins to raise his strength to 800. The effect was immediate, his muscles bulge up and he felt as if he was filled with infinite strength. He didn't bother to talk it out with the elite knight, he simply stomped on the ground and rushed toward the elite knight,
As he swung his sword, he angled it so that its momentum was raised by a quarter. The strike landed on the elite knight's raised sword with overwhelming force, causing a circular shockwave that cleared all the surrounding vegetation.
The elite knight had blocked the strike only to feel his hands break from the force. Luckily for him, his body was launched flying, speeding through the air like a cannon ball. He knocked into several trees, breaking and clearing the remaining standing trees in that direction.
Lucien knew that the strike had severely injured the guy, he moved to finish the job only to halt as several more knights in armor flashed into view at great speed. Lucien theorized that these were also elite knights. They observed the destroyed vegetation warily as well as their bloodied comrade, lying in the distance with broken bones and limbs.
They all gave Lucien and Selene a wary glance. They had heard the shockwave from the clash from a distance, which had left them wondering who their comrade was actually fighting. Had their prey found his backup already? The scene they had found had them reeling in disbelief, their prey, the famous powerless disgrace had actually managed to wound their comrade so swiftly.
They all swallowed hard as they remembered the tales of house Aureville's rise. The family seemed to have a knack for pulling out world shocking trump cards at their most desperate times. The family's founder, Lucien's grandfather, had done that and given the empire and the kingdom a big shock. Lucien's father had done the same and deterred all his foes, could Lucien be about to do the same?
"Surround them. It's only his disgrace and a serving maid. " one of the knights said. He seemed to be the strongest of the four elite knights. He turned to Lucien, "come with me. Your disgrace. Don't force us to hurt you."
Lucien grit his teeth in anger as he heard how they referred to him. It was one amongst many of the names Lucien had been christened by his enemies for failing to awaken any extraordinary strength.
Selene stepped up beside him silently, her eyes flashed in furry as a silver barrier rose around and faint silver lights rose around her. Lucien took a deep breath and settled his surging anger. He fixed a calm, eerie gaze at the elite knights surrounding them and used appraise, starting with their leader.

Lucien internally heaved a sigh of relief. The guy was not a grand knight, he could take him on. He appraised the others one by one.

The other two were a variation of this, not too strong in the elite knight realm. If they were alone, Lucien was confident he could dispatch them quickly and efficiently. However, the way they were in groups, that would be a challenge.
The lead knight launched an attack at Lucien , his sword cleaving at Lucien with imposing momentum. Lucien raised his sword and blocked the strike, choosing the place he felt the least momentum.
He was surprised to note that the knight seemed close to level four sword mastery, his momentum was hidden and more evenly spread than other elite knights. Facing Lucien however, it was not enough.
The elite knight's strike was blocked and redirected towards the right. That was where another knight's strike was coming at Lucien. The two strikes collided and gave Lucien the chance to unleash his own strike at Ren, his sword chopped down but was blocked by Ren's hastily drawn sidearm.
The strike forced the elite knight onto his knees. Ren gave him a brutal kick to the face, breaking bones and almost taking his head off. The elite knight was launched into the air, following his comrade's steps as he crashed into trees at breakneck speed.
