People had assumed that the spokesperson would simply gloss over such a sensitive issue, but to the surprise of many, after a brief pause, the spokesperson indeed started to answer the question.
"Yes, your information is very accurate. Romand Willy indeed submitted his resignation late yesterday, and it has already been approved. The reason is quite obvious; no one is satisfied with the current performance of Langley. Langley could have done better, but it failed to function effectively in many key intelligence operations."
"Therefore, Mr. Romand Willy realized his capabilities were inadequate to lead this department and submitted his resignation following the advice of the top boss. As for Mr. Romand Willy's successor, that has yet to be decided. As everyone knows, Langley is an extremely important department for our nation."
"With a responsible attitude toward this country, the top boss will conduct a series of evaluations and ultimately select a person who is proficient in the business and trustworthy to take over this very important work."
As soon as the spokesperson finished speaking, the reporters at the scene immediately became excited, their hands shooting up as if injected with adrenaline.
The majority of the journalists who had been permitted to enter this mansion for the press conference were seasoned professionals. They were, of course, familiar with how spokespersons usually responded to such matters.
Either they would first affirm the work of the resigning individual, provide a brief summary of their work, and then offer good wishes, or they would simply offer no comment and bypass the issue altogether.
Today's response indicated either a deep dissatisfaction with the work performed under Romand Willy's tenure or that the former Langley head had been involved in a severe conflict with the high-profile bigwigs within this mansion...
Think about it, how could a spokesperson dare to speak so candidly about a just-resigned Langley head without permission from above?
No amount of buff on oneself would make a difference!
After all, stacking buffs is for show, a promotional necessity; but Langley is infamous for keeping its work well out of the public eye.
Without the bigwigs' instructions, the spokesperson would likely not dare to speak like that.
So, what grievous act had Romand Willy committed?
Why would the official statement directly label him as inadequate?
Could it be because of the last materials model incident?
"Madam Spokesperson, may I ask if your critique of Romand Willy was due to the fact that during his term, Huaxia developed strong artificial intelligence technology and reverse-engineering material model technology, and Langley failed to report on it?"
The next reporter to be called upon asked without hesitation.
"Sorry, the work content during the term of Langley's head is confidential and not open to the public, so no comment. That concludes today's press conference."
"Wait, Madam Spokesperson, were your comments about Romand Willy's work guided by the top boss?"
"According to the latest poll results from Morgan Valley, the top boss's approval rating has dropped another three percentage points. Seventy percent of surveyed citizens believe that the top boss has failed to achieve the previously emphasized task of containing Hua's development during his tenure. Is Romand Willy's resignation related to this matter?"
"What is your opinion on..."
The clamor of the reporters did not alter the spokesperson's decision.
After delivering that statement, the spokesperson gathered her speech and exited the press conference room without looking back.
The reporters were, of course, kept outside by the Special Service Bureau personnel.
These damned reporters really are a nuisance...
To speak to that extent was already her limit; who else could have provided more details?
Too greedy!

In Washington, Langley, Romand Willy was starting to pack up his personal belongings.
Even as head of the organization, he really wasn't that different from the average employee.
Once resigned, this office would no longer belong to him.
The television on the wall was broadcasting the press conference from earlier today.
Hearing a reporter ask about him, Romand Willy briefly shifted his attention to the TV.
He wasn't surprised by the spokesperson's subsequent reply.
His refusal to compromise had ultimately enraged those arrogant vampires.
Frankly, Romand Willy always considered himself patriotic. 𝖓𝖔𝖛𝔭𝖚𝖇.𝔠𝖔𝔪
Although he often had personal motives, all were built upon the oath he swore under the Stars and Stripes. Moreover, only from a higher position could he better serve the country.
Well, it wasn't quite that pure; it was just like everyone else in the world who had discovered the benefits of money and grown fonder of it. Regardless, he had his principles.
In fact, ever since he became head of Langley, his vision of the country had begun to blur and even become abstract.
Because here, it was hard to find an accurate legal definition, like whose country this really is? To whom should he pledge his loyalty and offer his services?
Although Romand Willy wasn't surprised psychologically, his anger rose steadily with each negative statement made by the spokesperson.
After all, resigning due to incompetence was a tremendous humiliation for his career, especially since he was a technical officer.
This humiliation was second only to that of a former Langley head who had resigned proactively after an extramarital affair was exposed...
Yes, a Langley head whose affair was publicly revealed... heh.
He once thought that person was a clown, but now he realized that anyone could become a clown, including himself.
In a fit of rage, he grabbed the telephone.
"Hello? This is Romand Willy, do you have time? I'd like to meet and talk."
"Of course, I would be honored! Mr. Willy."
