Chapter 308: Are You Watching Me?
Han Xi couldn’t control her thoughts after Fang Zhou got injured again. She feared she might lose control seeing Qiao Sisi and Chu Xinran getting too close to him. So, she decided to bring him back to her place. Knowing that Chu Xinran and others could easily find her regular residence, she chose to take him to the Han family estate instead.
The security measures at the estate were much stricter, and without permission, strangers couldn’t step foot on the property. However, she hadn’t anticipated Fang Zhou’s strong reaction, which was intense enough to reopen his wound.
This made Han Xi even more suspicious. Was Fang Zhou so eager to see Qiao Sisi that he couldn’t stand being away?
Han Xi’s eyes darkened, filled with a coldness that could freeze anyone. “You can recover here without anyone bothering you,” she said stiffly, her gaze fixed on Fang Zhou as if trying to read his mind. Unfortunately, she lacked that ability.
Fang Zhou could feel her eyes on him, but he was too angry to respond. He kept his eyes shut, pretending to sleep. He had already lost his temper earlier, causing his wound to reopen. He knew that route was blocked. It was better to stay calm to avoid further injury and pain.
The more he pretended to sleep, the more frustrated Han Xi became, her mood sinking further. “What do you want to eat? I’ll have someone make it for you,” she asked, trying to be patient.
Fang Zhou found her tone surprisingly humble, which made him laugh bitterly. He opened his eyes and looked directly at Han Xi, asking, “If you’ve already made up your mind, what’s the point of asking me? Does it even matter?”
Han Xi was a big-shot CEO, and here she was, speaking humbly to him. Fang Zhou couldn’t help but feel it was absurd. He didn’t deserve this level of humility from her. Why was she going this far for him?
“You can make the decisions yourself. My opinion doesn’t matter anyway, right?”
His words, filled with frustration and genuine feelings, made Han Xi realize how angry he was. She slowly knelt beside him, placing her hand on his head, feeling his soft yet slightly rough hair. Fang Zhou tried to pull away, angrily saying, “Let go of me! I’m not a dog!”
Such intimate gestures were typically between couples, usually initiated by the man. The sudden role reversal made Fang Zhou feel out of control. They were arguing! Her unexpected actions made him uneasy.
Due to his injuries, Fang Zhou couldn’t move much, so he couldn’t escape her touch and could only glare at her. Han Xi’s initial frustration softened a bit. Her hand moved from his head to his neck, stopping at his collarbone. She loved Fang Zhou’s collarbone, finding it comforting to touch.
Han Xi felt a bit perverse, wondering why she was so fixated on this part of him like some kind of creep. “You’re not a dog, but it seems you’re willing to be Qiao Sisi’s,” she said softly. Despite her quiet tone, Fang Zhou heard her clearly.
Feeling exasperated, he wondered why she kept bringing up Qiao Sisi. Yes, he had taken a knife for her, but he would’ve done the same for Han Xi.
“You misunderstand me. I have my own will. I wouldn’t do that,” he said. “If it were you in danger, I would’ve acted the same.”
Fang Zhou hoped this would clarify things, but Han Xi just laughed lightly, still disbelieving. “Really? But I haven’t received such treatment from you.”
“You went to the amusement park, booked a theater, and cooked for Qiao Sisi. Have you ever done any of that for me?”
Fang Zhou was shocked. “How do you know that?”
After visiting Qiao Sisi’s house, he had tried to make amends, feeling a mix of compassion and guilt towards her. Those feelings pushed him to be especially kind to her. But how did Han Xi know about these private moments?
Seeing Han Xi’s indifferent gaze, a thought struck him. “Are you spying on me?”
He hadn’t felt watched. Was it his lack of awareness, or was Han Xi’s surveillance team that good? The idea made him shudder with a chilling sensation, feeling exposed and vulnerable.
Han Xi shook her head, denying it. “I’m not spying on you. I got her schedule from her agency.”
Fang Zhou thought about it. Qiao Sisi, being a celebrity, had her daily schedule reported to her agency, except on off days. There could be paparazzi selling photos to the agency, making it plausible for Han Xi to know.
Relieved, he realized she wasn’t spying on him. Han Xi noticed his relief, a struggle flashing in her eyes like a stone dropping into a lake, creating ripples that eventually calmed.
Some things are better left unknown, she thought.
Fang Zhou took a deep breath, still feeling Han Xi had gone too far. “I can be nice to her and to you, but you can’t make decisions for me like this.”
Han Xi raised an eyebrow, calmly replying, “If I didn’t do this today, would you remember me tomorrow?”
She was always the last person Fang Zhou considered, always the one forced to be understanding. Why?
She wanted to be selfish, just this once.
