46 -0046: Breakup Master
Long Fei and Wang Xiaoya exchanged an awkward smile before taking their seats next to each other.
Zhang Li glared at Chu Feng, grinding her teeth as she demanded, “Give me an explanation!
You win a girl over on the first day, and then ignore her the next?
What do you think I am?
What are you playing at?”
Chu Feng sat up straight, his face suddenly becoming grave.
He said to Zhang Li earnestly, “Little Li, since I can’t avoid it today, I might as well come clean to you!
I’m not some rich second generation heir; the sports car and membership card that day were borrowed from someone else.
I genuinely like you, but I don’t have money, so I had to resort to those methods to pursue you and win your heart.
After we did that thing, I felt both excited and regretful.
I didn’t know how to explain it to you, so I’ve been avoiding you.
I swear on heaven and earth about my feelings for you.
Little Li, I won’t lie to you, I’m currently working as a security guard in this company, just like Long Fei.
If you don’t look down on me for my job, let’s be together!
I promise I will treat you like a princess for the rest of my life!”
Zhang Li glanced at Long Fei.
Long Fei nodded in agreement and said, “It’s true, Chu Feng and I applied for the security job together.
He took the night shift just to avoid you!”
He looked at Chu Feng, utterly astounded by his dedication.
This guy, seriously, it’s a pity he’s not in the movies.
He had always wondered how Chu Feng would manage to shake off Zhang Li’s affection.
In his mind, the solution was simply to compensate her with some money.
But today, his eyes were opened wide.
With this move of retreating to advance, Chu Feng placed himself at a moral high ground.
Chu Feng wasn’t ignoring Zhang Li because he was fickle, but simply because he was broke.
Now, the choice was given to Zhang Li.
If Zhang Li chose to break up, then she’d be labeled as a gold digger who despised the poor and loved the rich.
If Zhang Li chose to reconcile, that would be nearly impossible.
The girl really met her match, and she exchanged looks with Wang Xiaoya, both of their faces a picture of bewilderment.
She pointed at Chu Feng, stammering, “How could you lie to people!
It doesn’t matter that you don’t have money, I don’t care about that.
But the thing I hate most in life is men who lie.
You’ve deceived me to this extent, and you still want me to forgive you?”
Long Fei inwardly gave twenty-eight thumbs up, thinking to himself how clever this sister was, her mind equipped with an octa-core processor.
If she chose to break up, then she’d prove herself to be materialistic.
First, she dismissed the idea, claiming it wasn’t Chu Feng’s poverty that drove her away.
But because he lied.
With that, she positioned herself on the moral high ground.
Chu Feng held his face with his hands, tears brimming in his eyes, looking utterly distressed as he asked, “So, you’re choosing to break up with me?”
Zhang Li stood up and exclaimed, “Yes, a love that begins with lies will eventually end with them.
Forget about me, I can’t possibly accept you!
As for what happened before, I won’t blame you for it.
But I have a piece of advice for you: if you don’t have money, accept it and be honest like Long Fei.
If you keep deceiving girls like this, you’ll sooner or later face the consequences!”
Chu Feng burst into tears, suddenly dropping to his knees in front of Zhang Li, grasping her delicate hands and pleading, “Little Li, don’t leave me.
I can earn money, I can provide a home for you.
Please, don’t be so heartless, okay?”
“Stop dreaming, I will never forgive you!”
Zhang Li, startled, thought he was clinging to her and swiftly shook off his hand, rushing to the reception to grab her phone and signaling Wang Xiaoya to leave quickly.
Long Fei was speechless; if he didn’t know Chu Feng, he would have believed this guy was truly a hopeless romantic.
Wang Xiaoya looked at him and coyly waved her hand, signaling Long Fei to comfort Chu Feng.
After she and Zhang Li left, Long Fei sat on the sofa, laughing at Chu Feng, “Alright, stop acting; they’re gone!”
Chu Feng turned his head to make sure they had left, then sat up on the sofa and grinned at Long Fei, “So, how was my acting?”
Long Fei gave a thumbs up and said, “Seriously, the Oscars really owe you a Best Actor award!”
Chu Feng took a puff of his cigarette, threw his head back and laughed, then waved his hand at him, “Alright, it’s getting late.
You better head back now!
Don’t forget to look up some kidney tonic recipes for me when you get back!”
“I won’t forget!”
Long Fei shook his head with a smile, waving goodbye to him.
On the way home, he even felt a bit of sympathy for Zhang Li.
A hunter who had stumbled upon the finest eagle.
Once Long Fei got home, he pushed his bike through the gate.
Sister Yan was outside tidying up and, seeing him enter, she let out an excited muffled shout, “Little Fei, all the vacant rooms on the third floor have been rented out!”
“Ah, that quick?”
Long Fei was happy for her.
Two one-bedroom apartments, that’s two thousand bucks a month.
Plus the six rooms downstairs, Sister Yan could pull in five thousand just from rent each month.
Curious, he asked, “What’s with these wooden planks all over the floor?”
Sister Yan laughed, “Well, one person rented both rooms.
The girl has money, she signed a one-year lease with me on the spot.
She asked me to tear down the wall in between and even mentioned she’s having someone come over to renovate it tomorrow.
The young girls nowadays are truly remarkable, definitely a ‘rich second generation’ from some family.”
She chatted happily for a while and asked Long Fei to help her carry the dismantled wooden planks into the storage room next door.
After cleaning up, she invited Long Fei to come in for tea.
Feeling uncomfortable, Long Fei didn’t go in, saying he was too tired, and politely declined He Yan’s offer before heading upstairs.
He Yan sighed, probably guessing what was on Long Fei’s mind; she didn’t want to dwell on it anymore.
If they couldn’t be lovers, they could still be like siblings.
Long Fei returned to his own little nest, stripped off his clothes, slipped on some large boxer shorts, and cooled down a bit.
Suddenly, there was a loud bang on the outside door.
He went over to open it, and a group of tall, burly students stood there, sizing up Long Fei from head to toe.
The leader was the guy from next door.
Knowing what they were after, Long Fei sneered at him, “Looks like you don’t want to be my neighbor, huh!”
The guy pointed at Long Fei and cursed, “Faking son of a bitch, still acting tough with me at this time?”
The other students chimed in, “Xu Dong, why bother talking to him?
Just smash him!”
“Damn it, how dare you pick on our football team?
You asking for trouble?”
“Bow your head and kowtow, and we might just let you off easy today!”
“…”
Long Fei put on his shoes and said calmly, “Enough with the noise, this place is too small for a fight.
Let’s go somewhere else to square off, I’ll make sure you guys have a good time tonight!”
Xu Dong and the others exchanged looks, gathering their courage, “Fine, let’s go have a practice, as if you’re some Huang Feihong!”
“Let’s go, keep him company!”
The others glared at Long Fei one more time, also feeling that it wasn’t appropriate to fight here.
The room was too small; they couldn’t really let loose.
Xu Dong led the crowd down the stairs, and his girlfriend, wearing a nightgown, stood on the upper floor and called out sweetly, “Honey, you can do it!”
Xu Dong blew her a kiss.
Long Fei looked up and remembered an old saying, something like “a woman with high cheekbones doesn’t need a knife to kill her husband.”
This woman certainly had the face of one who brought her husband grief, so nitpicky, she’ll surely cause trouble in the future.
