Chapter 52: 52:Not Knowing The Bigger Picture
A massive formation of guards marched forward, their armor clanking in unison.
At the front, knights on horseback led the procession, their banners fluttering in the wind.
Dust billowed around them as they surrounded a grand carriage, its polished surface reflecting the midday sun.
Carved into its side was the insignia of a lion, an unmistakable mark of power that made onlookers stop in their tracks, watching in awe and reverence.
Inside the carriage, a man with a bluish mustache sat in silence, adjusting his glasses.
Grant Veydrin, the Fifth Pillar and Elder of the Veydrin family watched the crystal screen before him with a calm expression until suddenly, his face twisted in fury.
BAANG!
His hand shot out, grabbing the crystal and crushing it into shards. A violent aura exploded from him, shaking the carriage with its sheer force.
Outside, the horses reared up in terror, their terrified cries halting the entire procession. Knights struggled to control them, but the animals trembled as if they had just been struck by divine wrath.
Grant’s face contorted in disgust, his lips curling as though he had just stepped in filth.
"What is this?" he spat, his voice laced with venom.
His nostrils flared as he took a sharp breath, his hands trembling in barely contained rage.
"I have been away from the estate for a month, and so many things changed out of nowhere?"
His jaw clenched, his golden eyes narrowing behind his glasses.
"So many variables."
"Since when did unawakened ones become this powerful? Is this a joke? Someone tell me this is a joke."
His fingers dug into the armrest as he forced himself to watch the recorded footage again.
The scenes played out before him shocked him to the core.
The scene of Kael, cutting through undead knights like they were paper, his strikes precise and merciless. Blood painted the trial floor as he left his victims broken, screaming, or worse dead before they even realized it.
He toyed with them, broke them, tortured them like a predator savoring its kill.
The wizards situated on the floor along with the necromancers were all killed brutally.
Grant’s stomach twisted in fury. This wasn’t just an unexpected problem. This was a disaster.
"You had a simple task," he growled, his knuckles whitening. "Make him fail and throw him away."
His words came out slow, and measured, barely masking the storm raging inside him. He exhaled sharply, but his anger didn’t fade. It only burned hotter.
His instincts screamed at him; this wasn’t just an obstacle.
It was a warning. A huge one.
The brat they had dismissed as a mere kitten had grown into a lion, ready to roar and take down the foes. And worse, he didn’t hesitate.
He didn’t show mercy to anyone.
"What a cruel piece of shit?"Grant muttered remembering about the grey-haired man sitting on the Veydrin throne.
Emotionless, cruel, and cold bastard.
"Just like that emotionless bastard!"
The necromancers’ valuable assets to the family and that bastard just wiped out without a second thought instead of sparing.
Unacceptable...
It was unacceptable.
Grant gritted his teeth, his mind already working. "A man who can’t grasp the bigger picture isn’t fit to lead," he muttered. His gaze darkened, settling into an icy decision. "I should throw him out of the race. No matter what, I must clear the way for Miss Adele to take charge."
"It can’t fall into his hands. Not into the hands of someone who doesn’t know when to show mercy."
If Kael had heard that, he probably would’ve laughed. Or worse, he would’ve beaten the old man senselessly for fucking with him with these bullshit tongue-twisting words.
They were allowed to kill him but he didn’t have the right to retaliate.
What kind of fucking bullshit is this?"
.......
The Hidden Floor in the Castle Interior...
"This is sheer menace."
Ramos stood with his arms crossed and shook his head as eyes locked onto the scene unfolding before him.
Gare standing beside him observed Ramos and asked"You were supposed to stop this, right?"
Gare asked, "You expected foul play."
Ramos didn’t answer. His eyes moved across the battlefield, scanning everything in brutal silence.
Of course, they all knew something like this would happen. This test was a golden opportunity for the opposition to interfere.
But no one stopped them.
Why?
Because this was just a petty skirmish in their eyes.Nothing more than childish games.
The real power struggle?
That belonged to royal families with countless princes, each ready to stab the other in the back.
Compared to that? This was nothing. Not even worth a fart.
But...
"You didn’t expect this, did you?" Gare’s smirk widened.
Ramos exhaled through his nose. "Hmph." He gave a small nod, his eyes never leaving Kael.
Something about the boy felt wrong.
’What the hell is this power?’
’He doesn’t have mana, but he’s manipulating it like it’s nothing.’
’A Death Knight should have been overkill against an unawakened... but this guy is breaking every rule of common sense.’
’If he’s this strong before awakening, what the hell is he gonna be like after?’
For the first time in a while, Ramos felt something stir inside him.
Excitement.
His slumbering heart that seemed to have died down seems to pick up the beat.
He wanted to see what came next.
Chris, who had been watching silently, finally whispered, "He’s so cool."
Baret sighed beside him. "Young Master’s abilities are getting out of hand."
Gare chuckled at their reaction.’
"Yeah, let’s step in before he gets too crazy," Ramos said, taking a step ahead through the hidden passage.
