Chapter 1287: 581 Mountain King_2 Chapter 1287: 581 Mountain King_2 As long as I’m with Aubree Groove, I feel invincible.
Aubree Groove nodded, as Jayden Moore bounded in with something small in his grip, grinning as he said, “Mistress, we’ve got a rabbit to feast on.”
The little creature was entirely snow-white and extraordinarily plump – at first glance, it bore a striking resemblance to a rabbit.
The noises it made were quite strange, resembling the cries of an infant.
Flurries of chilling wind blew in from the window, accompanying the eerie shrieks, which inexplicably made one’s hair stand on end.
The tiny creature suddenly raised its head, causing Loretta to shriek, “Ah…!”
Her pretty face paled from fright.
“Damn,” Jayden Moore exclaimed as he saw the ‘rabbit’s’ face.
As if throwing a hot potato, he tossed it away, then seized a stick behind him and began to flail it at the ‘rabbit.’
“Where did this monster come from?
...
Take this!”
The ‘rabbit’ moved with the speed of the wind, agilely avoiding Jayden Moore’s swings and lunged at his face.
It was too fast, and Jayden Moore’s left cheek was scratched, leaving a bloody mark.
Enraged, Jayden Moore chased the ‘rabbit’ around the room.
The ‘rabbit,’ however, seemed to be leading him on a merry chase, scurrying up the walls as though they were a flat surface.
Full of shock, Loretta cried, “Is this a rabbit?
How can it be so powerful?”
After watching carefully for a moment, Aubree Groove suddenly spoke.
“Jayden Moore.”
Understanding her signal, Jayden Moore ran toward Aubree Groove, with the ‘rabbit’ naturally following.
As Jayden Moore ran closer, he suddenly dodged out of the way.
A flash of light from his phone momentarily blinded the ‘rabbit’; it let out a scream and fell to the floor, all of its limbs twitching.
Aubree Groove switched off the flashlight on her phone, walked over to it, and grabbed it by its long ears.
The little creature struggled briefly, then looked at Aubree Groove with a pair of deep, green eyes.
The more Loretta looked at it, the more her hair stood on end.
“What in the world is this thing?
It’s terrifying – it has a human face.”
Indeed, at first glance it looked like a rabbit, but when it raised its head, it was enough to scare your soul out.
Aubree Groove said, “The Classic of Gods and Strange Phenomena records that the Mythical Beast comes from the southeastern wilderness.
It resembles a rabbit but has a human face and weeps like an infant.
It lures people with its fear of light and deceptive manners.
Though its meat is delicious, it never speaks the truth.
In a nutshell, this is a small creature adept at disguise.”
Its fur was beautifully white, its face as seductively elegant as a fox’s, making its long ears look rather majestic, and its green eyes bewitching.
Loretta couldn’t help but exclaim, “Reading really is useful; Aubree Groove knows everything.”
The small creature stretched out its front paws, like it was paying respect.
Its eyes were misty, giving off an ‘I deserve your pity’ vibe; very deceptive indeed.
It seemed to be begging for mercy, melting the observer’s heart.
Aubree Groove raised an eyebrow.
“It and the Soaring Snake are natural enemies.
If it’s here, that means the snake isn’t far away.”
Sure enough, the windowsills were soon swarming with snakes of all sizes, making for a sight as terrifying as it was crowded.
Instinctively, Loretta shielded Aubree Groove, “Don’t worry, Miss.
I’ll protect you.”
Soon, the snakes had surrounded all three of them.
Scared, the little creature tried to burrow into Aubree Groove’s lap.
Aubree Groove tugged at its ears.
“Afraid now, aren’t you?”
The small creature started wailing like a baby, making Loretta’s skin crawl every time she heard it.
“You and I will stand guard, Aubree Groove.
You must escape.”
With a sweep of his staff, Jayden Moore flung a row of snakes into the air, scattering them around.
“Useless.
With the beast here, the snakes will only multiply.
It’s known for savoring brain and its own meat is delicious – they are as desired as the flesh of Monk Tang.”
“Let’s throw the creature out and let them destroy each other.”
Strangely enough, the tiny creature seemed to understand them, scrambling to get back into Aubree Groove’s lap.
Gaping, Loretta asked, “It…it..can understand human language?”
“This place is where the Yin and Yang first interacted, breeding spiritual energy and giving birth to all kinds of weird and wonderful creatures.
There’s nothing surprising about this.”
“Behave yourself,” Aubree Groove told the Mythical Beast, holding it in her lap.
She took a step forward and a miracle unfolded.
Wherever Aubree Groove tread, the snakes retreated as if they were afraid of her.
The sight was as beautiful as it was miraculous.
Without thinking, Loretta whipped out her phone and recorded the scene.
“Miss truly has the protection of Buddha.” Loretta marveled.
Overwhelmed by the sight, Kindra, who rushed from outside, was left rooted to the spot, before she suddenly knelt and bowed her head to the ground.
She said something so quickly that Loretta could only make out, “She’s saying the Mountain Lord has shown his power.”
Aubree Groove shook her head, walked over to Kindra and helped her up.
“I’m not the Mountain Lord.”
Kindra pointed to the curious Mythical Beast resting quietly in Aubree Groove’s lap.
“The Mountain Lord’s cherished pet.”
Aubree Groove didn’t bother to explain further and instead asked, “The Mountain Lord in your words, is he the Mountain Lord of Lopez Mountain who controls the seventy-two divisions of the Ten Temples of the Nine Specters?”
